PS4Home: "Sony Online Entertainment represented Sony’s biggest effort to capture the growing free-to-play gaming market that’s flourished on PCs and mobile platforms."
Doesn't mean anything...just means that all those games that might have been exclusive only for the PlayStation 4 can and most likely will go to the Xbox One as well.
Means nothing only that the games will be coming to Xbox
It's funny how dismissive people are being towards the seriousness of the loss of SOE. Seeing as if Nintendo announced the loss of Retro then the world would see it a sign of the end times. I suppose the always wise and wonderful Sony can do no wrong. meanwhile I will enjoy playing Planetside 2 of the Xbox.
'' I suppose the always wise and wonderful Sony can do no wrong...'' Your are so stupid. Do you know why we don't bat an eye over this? Because these guys were PC developers. Even if they were owned by sony, they put PC first. They aren't really popular in the PlayStation Ecosystem either, so why should we be concerned about their departure? Their games will still come to PS4. At least be happy those games will come to Xbox now. ''if Nintendo announced the loss of Retro then the world would see it a sign of the end times. '' Just like if Sony sells Naughty Dog or any of their devs. Why? Because they are 1st party devs who make 1st party content. Their loss will be a sign for concern.
OH NO!!!! damnit, well I guess I'll keep my PS4 and play it on that... I doubt anyone buys consoles purely for MMOs. This is not a big deal, most of the games they release are on Windows anyway.
SOE was never part of PlayStation. PlayStation did receive some games but they were housed under an entirely different umbrella.
"meanwhile I will enjoy playing Planetside 2 of the Xbox." lol Have fun with that. 2+ years in development and 99% of PS4 owners still can't play it. Surely the Xbox version won't be far behind.
watch Planetside 2, H1Z1, DC Universe, Everquest Next go from amazing, must play, console-exclusive games on ps4 to meh, who cares about these games anyway
Well to be honest when were they ever? SOEs free to play models are horrid and after they announced the fact that the ps4 version of the game will have to cut 800 players I was kinda turned off from it. In truth that is what a real downgrade looks like, not lesser resolution or lower frame rate. If this is what we can expect from their games on consoles, then yes I believe it is going to qualify as a "meh".
watch Planetside 2, H1Z1, DC Universe, Everquest Next go from meh, who cares about these games anyway to amazing, must play games coming to Xbox
So, if there's 800 players on the PS4, and Xbone is 50% weaker than the PS4, then that only leaves 400 players on your Xbone. Enjoy the downgrade :D
All it means is Xbox owners now get to wait for ports forever too. I'm expecting my Planetside 2 PS4 beta code in 2017.
"All it means is Xbox owners now get to wait for ports forever too." How very true!
Gamers haven't lost anything so much as Sony's lost a greater deal of exclusivity. That's hardly stopped the PS4 from being the best place to play third-party games though, so hardly a huge loss for them.
That's kind of debatable, though, isn't it? I mean, I have no problem if some people feel that way, but obviously some people think the PC is the best place to play 3rd party games due to the superior graphics and performance. Others think the XB1 is the best place to play 3rd party games just based off of things like controller preference, ecosystem, friends, etc. I agree that the PS4 is doing very well and that this isn't a huge deal, but let's be honest, this will result in the loss of some future console exclusives.
Seriously it doesn't mean an awful lot for anyone really. I play on all platforms and i enjoy some off the games this developer makes its good to see it going multiplatform. But lets be honest none off them are ground shakers and more to the fact they stay on PC for a god awful time before they come out off there betas and get there console mentions. Hence there only good enough for the f2p market. I play some Planetside on my PC and Ive had some fun with H1Z1 in the beta. Worries me now days how many games we are pinning hopes on that are gonna be sitting in betas like this for ages. I may just be just old at 35 and still enjoying my games but i remember and still love the period off time in gaming where i could just go to the game store and buy me a complete game. None off this messing round on ideas that rarely ever see full completion -_-.
The thing the PS4 lost is a point of difference between competing consoles. If this had been on the ps3 , i would say it was no big deal. But the fact this means they lose exclusivity of PS2 and H1Z1 to the competition, thats pretty massive , considering how much they have spent publicizing the games for the PS4 , only to hand they over before they even got released to the competitors.
Except they didn't lose them. Those games will still come.
not really, this games are on pc first and for most and they will still come to ps4, and i dont think anyone would buy a home console only to play a MMO. besides they only say that they are exited to create games for xbox one not that this ones will come (but most provably) along with everquest next
It's just some PC games! Who cares?
Well apparently quite a number of folk considering it became the hottest news topic yesterday.
"It's just some PC games! Who cares?" Uh..all those people that were putting PS2, H1Z1 and DCU on their "exclusives lists" in fanboy arguments? IMO, though. it means little, to the PS4 overall. Not like its short of incoming exclusives, anyway.
For PS4.... nothing. For Sony .... Less headaches, no money liking, total focus on console games and use the money for better entertainment investments (including console sector). I'm 110% sure that selling SOE was one of the best decisions for Sony, considering the games and the poor financial results.
lol, agreed. Still waiting on a damn port to Planetside 2. Sooooo we are having Sony spend $60 million a year for dated PC ports? I'm sorry but unless someone can show me in the deep millions PS4s, PS3's, PSvitas etc sold because of those ports, it makes no sense. Its just not worth the money they are putting into them. Business is not about bragging rights, its about making money. SOE cost MORE Then what Sony was getting out of them. What retard would really keep such a studio? I'm surprised they kept them for this long. Every year it was like "SOE might be porting this" lol When EverQuest Next was announced, it was like "oooooh boy, can't wait to play this maybe in 2018...2019" lol
Aside from Planetside 2.. there was not much coming from SOE that meant anything to the PlayStation brand itself. Everquest and H1Z1 were "up in the air" type of things when it comes to talking about launching those games on PS4, and were basically given a "they'll come whenever we get to it" priority.
Guessing SOE games will no longer be exclusive to Sony consoles.
it just means way more resource on one product rather than having to split it and profit obviously.
@Sony Sells Sony Online Entertainment; What Does This Mean for the PlayStation 4? Nothing.
"A Little less special"? yeah, I know. I feel terrible LOL!
SOE games suck anyways. Xbox fans now all of a sudden think DCUO, PS2, and ect are amazing.
Trust me when I say (and I'm sure I speak for the majority of PS4 gamers everywhere), I didn't buy my PS4 for SOE games. Everyone knows which franchises we are waiting for.
They're still going to be developing for PS4. They're multi-platform, not Xbox or PC exclusive. PS4 will still goodies. Don't worry.
That maybe PS4 owners can play with XB1 owners through crossplay? I honestly dont see them losing anything.
