Destiny’s House of Wolves drops in May, light level going to 39

House of Wolves is the next major DLC drop for Destiny and if a leak posted earlier today proves to be accurate, the content – previously rumored for a March release – won’t be available until May.

Neonridr3517d ago

deep down I hope this guy is wrong on the date. Could you imagine February, March and April with nothing but doing the Crota Raid on hard over and over again to tide us over? ugh..

The jump to 39 is a big one, wasn't expecting it to go that high.

BattleTorn3517d ago

I believe the article has gotten the confused with light-level of characters, and on armor.

As of right now, our light-level-cap is 32, with armor providing a maximum of 36 light, each. (I believe)
(with I think, lvl-30 / 33-light previously)

So if it's just armor increasing to light-39, I could be possible the light-level on characters is only going up ~2. (possibly only 1)

Neonridr3517d ago

yeah you could be right.

Cryptcuzz3517d ago

You are correct that the article meant light levels will be increased to light +39 and not the actual level.

With full gears to light +39, it should take the max level to 33. I don't think the article is covering what the new raid gears light stats will be though and most likely are talking about the vendor gears.

Considering from Vault of Glass being max level 30, then Crota's End being two levels higher at max 32. It only makes sense for House of Wolves raid gears taking the max levels to 34. If that is the case, the new raid on hard will have enemies that are level 35. Just like how max level in Crota's End is 32, with enemies on hard mode being level 33.

So the new vendor gears looks like it'll be light +39, so the new raid gears will most likely be light +42?

theDivision3516d ago

At light increasing to 39 we would only increase one level. I don't think this is the case, I believe vendor gear will be 39 with exotics and raid gear going to 42.

Mega243517d ago

World of Warcraft didn't have any content update once 5.4 was release, a full year went by and we got Warlords of Draenor. Think 6 months is too much?

Fixay3517d ago

WoW has a lot more content to eat your way through

Destiny for most people now including myself is just doing the weekly raids and nightfall

Halo2ODST23517d ago

Yeah, 6 months is too much, you forget Destiny isn't an MMO & it lacks content since release (terrble level design, it's basically just Horde Mode/Firefight

Mega243517d ago

@Fixay

You mean the content that has been eaten, chewed and digested plenty of times before. Old content doesn't hold up when you can blow through it with auto attacks.

BlackTar1873517d ago

Are you comparing a WoW DLC/Expanison to this what i would call an Episode worth of content for Destiny?

Even all of the Destiny DLC together is probably less then 1 Expansion for WoW.

The Comparision isn't even close to apples to apples. Destiny is like 2hrs worth of actual content.

Mega243516d ago (Edited 3516d ago )

@BlackTar187

Not comparing them to Expansions, I'm comparing them as content patches. Destiny's just a $20 content patch.

Between 5.4 and 6.0 there was nothing to do but the same old content, which most players already did on a spam of 10 years, which is still barely non existent since they just keep rehashing the old raids and dungeons.

JWiLL5523517d ago

I believe it was already confirmed that the max level with House of Wolves will be 35, so a slightly bigger jump from the last DLC, which makes sense as it has to tide over gamers until September.

I don't exactly believe these dates are true. The info he stumbled upon could have easily been a placeholder. I would take the info from that Bungie investors event to be more accurate until it's confirmed otherwise.

Neonridr3517d ago

yeah, I am hoping that was just misinformation, because May is a long time to wait.

BlackWolf123517d ago

I wish people would actually LOOK at the images properly before spreading bullshit rumors.

The new light level cap is NOT 39, the images do NOT suggest that in any way.

The new light level cap is likely to be 34, as previously speculated.

39 comes from the fact that the Vanguard armor shown in the images has light +39 stats attributed to them. The current Vanguard armor has light +33, and Raid armor has light +36. Each light level consists of 12 light, so Light + 39 will take you to level 33.

Neonridr3516d ago

I think in this case the guy posting the information used English as a second language. So I am guessing some details got mixed up in the translation.

I interpreted that wrong myself too, but it makes perfect sense as to what you and others have said regarding the light level of the armor.

theDivision3516d ago

That's a low jump. It should be 42 on each piece of raid gear and the exotics. There is no way the new vendor gear will reach 39 and the new raid and exotics not be higher. Or else it would defeat the purpose of having the raid in the first place.

Neonridr3516d ago

agreed, something doesn't seem right. Of course we are still speculating off of some images.. guess we will have to wait until we know more.

KwietStorm_BLM3516d ago

Well Bungie already said they're not making the same mistake again of making vendor gear available that would get you on the same level as raid gear without even having done the Vault of Glass, so these images don't necessarily tell the whole story. It's not like this is a press release.

leemo193517d ago (Edited 3517d ago )

I don't think it will be May, that's way to long of a wait. Destiny doesn't have enough content as of right now to keep people busy, making people wait longer would only lose more people.
Level 39 seems high maybe 34 or 35, but 39 that's too big of a leap. The new dlc is to have almost the same amount of content as the Dark Below, so 39 seems to high.
I'm going to have to go with this leak pic, since there's 3 sources not just one.
http://i2.wp.com/lzygmrs.co...

Razuel3517d ago

lets hope, kind of need the new content now. Crota was way too short and the only thing kept us busy was the re-grind over old gear that they already admitted was a big mistake.

Neonridr3517d ago

agreed.. it's one thing to ask us to hold on for another month doing the crota raid, but to expect us to do it for another 3 months is pure suicide on their part.

CorndogBurglar3517d ago

Supposedly, after House of Wolves there wont be any new expansions until September. That is going to be the true test for keeping my interest.

GameSpawn3517d ago

Seeing as the Raid on Hard in your screen shot is listing enemy levels as 35, than 35 is most likely the light level cap, though individual armor may go just a bit higher in light.

But you never know until it actually releases. Maybe they will allow overleveling to make Raid Hard easier for those willing to grind it out. I know that personally I overleveled every story mission by at least 2 levels to make them less frustrating (some missions I was WAY beyond 2 levels above).

jriquelme_paraguay3517d ago

dont know why i bought this game... included the DLCs... and never played. Boogrinddd...
regrets

shammgod3517d ago

i'm right there with you. I don't plan on going back and I haven't even touched the first DLC...if that's what they are calling it

Drekken3517d ago

Same here. I wish I could at least trade this turd in but I bought digital. One thing I learned is NEVER pre-order DLC. Never. I played a lot... had 3 level 30's then they released Crota and they lost me. I understand games like this come with a grind, but Bungie has no idea what they are doing. Weekly nightfalls, the same crap over and over. Ugh.

DevilishSix3517d ago (Edited 3517d ago )

If that is true Destiny will be dead before May. I enjoyed Destiny and played for 5 months, it was all I played, until about two or three weeks ago I started to get bored and was struggling to play. Then after the first week with the hard mode Crota Raid, there really wasn't much for me to due. Two characters at 32 and one at 31 that could be 32 if I wanted to grind shards, which I don't. I have all exotics but three and I am not going to continue to grind for three in the hopes I get them and may never get them. Got most of the raid weeapons (Mytho, Fatebringer, Vision, Black Hammer, Abyss Defient, etc.). So I enjoyed it and made many friends but they have been dying off over the last few weeks. There is just nothing compelling left to do or grind for, so I put it down 10 days ago.

Not sure if I will return to it either even though I have season pass. Just started Far Cry 4 and have GTA5 to play. Bloodborne is on the horizon and if this DLC launches in May its screwed because Witcher 3 comes out in May and Batman in June. So yeah I think I'm done with Destiny and many other day 1 players are leaving to.

GameSpawn3517d ago

It's good to have multiple games you are working on to prevent from being burned out. I don't know how much time you put in, but I usually run about 3-4 hours tops per day on my gaming sessions. I just have less free time and motivation compared to when I was around 20.

I have had Far Cry 4 (fun BTW, I hope you have fun with it as well), Unity (done...finished the DLC a couple weeks ago), and Shadows of Mordor to divert my attention from Destiny every once and a while. I haven't been playing Destiny like crazy (like some people) and as such I have yet to complete the Raids, though I did finally finish every story mission (including the DLC ones) and Strike. I finally have a decent set of armor to confidently take on either Raid (maybe a little more leveling for Crota Hard). I just need better weapons like Gjallahorn and Icebreaker (sorry I don't attempt to farm and buy everything from Xur either - I just take what I'm given).

Dario_DC3517d ago

I got this game as a gift... Never went past level 20... Got boring so fast! How can people enjoy doing the same thing over and over again?!?! BTW did not buy the DLC and never will...

BattleTorn3517d ago

Here's the thing with "over and over again"

It's all depends whether you enjoy it.

We all do what we love "over and over again", but dread having to do what we dislike a second time.

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_17d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince198117d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension14017d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy8517d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj17d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake17d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn17d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg17d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot0717d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

Microsoft has succeeded in spite of the Xbox brand, not because of it

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac17d ago

gold_drake17d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark17d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde17d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand12517d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.

Ex Destiny and Halo Producer Says Live Service Is 'Better for Developers and Players'

A former Halo and Destiny executive producer has said the live service model is "so much better for developers and players" than the one-off $60 purchase model.

Christopher86d ago

Typically the best games of each year say otherwise.

Christopher86d ago

Alan Wake 2, BG3, Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, GoW Ragnarok, Hades, Returnal, Fallout 4, Dishonored, It Takes Two, Untitled Goose Game, Breath of the Wild, both of The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro, Psychonauts 2, Control, Celeste, Super Mario Odyssey, Bloodborne, The Outer Wilds, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Cocoon, The Dredge, and more and more and more.

Up against Overwatch and Destiny as far as critical acclaim and recognition as 'better' for players.

And, let me be honest, even 'for developers' is a lie. Want to know why? Because it's only good for people who can pump out graphics constantly and not overall quest designers, coders, engine devs, etc.

What this guy means is "we can give a lot of cosmetic content to players, who we think players like more because people spend money on it, and it's best for us because we don't have to pay for a full team to create a new game and just the people to pump out new graphics from one season to another." In no way is his comment a true reflection of what is 'better for players' let alone 'better for the industry stability over longer periods of time.'

This is more investor mindset focusing on maximizing profits by getting consumers to buy less for more while they spend less making it. That's it.

You know what's best for players? Newer, better, and more content that is good and not just cosmetic. Live service isn't that unless you pay $60 a year to them to add more for it (like Destiny and CoD do). Then you might get some improvements and new content. Even then? Not usually.

just_looken85d ago

In terms of player feedback/awards yes but the list you made are all nothing in terms of profit.

Call of duty mobile alone laughs at that list that game is a billion dollar money making machine.

Toss in your apex/mmo/rivals/fortnight/robl ox/minecraft monoploy go or back to console with elder scrolls fallout 76.

Basically there is alot more live service style games that hit or go above the billion dollar mark than your list and that is what the people at top want cold hard cash. Heck alot fo them make a billion + a year

Gta 5 single player profit vs gtao profit as a example now that ps5/series has gtao as a free standalone with gta + there printing cash like its going out of style over there.

Christopher85d ago (Edited 85d ago )

Being more profitable isn't better for the consumer or developers. That's better for executives in suits.

just_looken85d ago

@Christopher

Umm exactly who do you think pay's the bill's and hands out the games budgets?

They have 0 care about a games award's/feedback its all profit driven some use to care like sony back in the day now its profit first.

0 likes shows how many are still on copium thinking the big publishers care about them

aaronaton86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Well the Poll on the website is suggesting he is massively wrong and out of touch.
A big majority of the vote going to "I prefer one off purchases with paid expansions"

Couldn't agree more.

Inverno86d ago

I'll always think the concept is awesome. Back during the PS3 era I pictured a Spider-Man game that would be the traditional open world swinging playground that they typically are but every comic issue would be turned into dlc. It'd be the entirety of the Amazing line, 2 to 3 issues at a time, turnt to dlc until the entire Amazing line is told in form of a game. That concept eventually made it to the industry and they have consistently fk'd it up with every game that has been made as a "service".

jznrpg86d ago

There is nothing like sitting down , popping in a great single player game and blocking out the world.

OtterX86d ago

Sometimes I like to log into Fortnite and Call of Duty and just sit and listen to 12 years call me a n*****, f**, m***** f***** just so I can remember why I like to play single player games.

GhostScholar86d ago
