There’s a Strong Chance of Uncharted 4 Outselling Halo 5 this Fall

Considering that both games are completely unrelated and the fans of each will obviously buy each respectfully.... so why does it matter?

The popularity of both franchises is high but not 100% high. Meaning the sell through is not going to be to 100% of the install base on either platform. Even if it sells to 50% of each platform (based on current levels) that would be roughly 9mil for UC4 and 5mil for H5. with the potential to increase as the time goes on with new users joining daily/monthly/yearly.

Is the fear that these titles will be failures or something?

Yeah I think it'll still sell well, but judging not only by MCC but also the quick dropoff of the mp community for Halo 4 it sounds like stagnation & indifference is starting to settle in. That's what happens when games are milked for all they're worth...Say what you will about Sony putting out another Uncharted but going by recent comments from an ex-Santa Monica staffer, it sounds like Sony has been careful not to just push an Uncharted title out for fear of people getting bored w/ the franchise.

At the end of the day, unless Xbox One sells another 10 million units or so and Sony stops selling PS4s completely the math just wouldn't work out for Halo 5 outselling UC4 regardless of the attach rate. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a totally different story though since it's hitting last gen as well. That game could outsell UC4 but I guarantee it won't be as well received by gamers & critics. Gamers want new gen games, cross gen titles don't really service either console if recent trends are anything to go by.

The problem with MCC in my opinion was that it was made by 5 or 6 studios..The Halo 5 beta was incredibly stable for a game roughly a year from release. Add to that that the maps and gameplay were better (in my opinion) than Halo 4 and I think Halo 5 will do just fine.

Uncharted I'm sure will sell a ton as well, but I know I won't be buying it. Not because I think it's bad, only because I've never played the other 3.. If between now and it's release I have the time to play them all my opinion may change though

The math does add up, more people purchase the Xbox brand for Halo as opposed to Sony for Uncharted. Historically Xbox has been the brand that Halo built, where there is not necessarily a single game that is contributed to building PlayStation.

If Assassin's Creed Unity can sell over 5 million copies across two consoles, I think Halo will sell regardless of how it is. Also MCC isn't a mess at all anymore. It has come along quite nicely and I haven't experienced any issues in about a month. It is still an outstanding value.

Those numbers do not lie. Even if Halo was over reported by VG by 1 million sales each game then every Halo game still beats any Uncharted game. The only acception being Halo MCC which is just under 2 million sold. Either way, The likelihood of an Uncharted game outselling a Halo game is very low given these statistics.

I am not saying it can't happen. I am merely making a counter point proving that just because Bungie isn't making the game anymore doesn't mean it is dead. These numbers back me up on that too.

Promotions and bundles can play a big role in this. AC Unity would have never sold as much as it did on X1 if not price cut/bundles. And Im pretty sure MS gonna advertise and push Halo 5 hard.
But PS4's huge install base and big success of Uncharted franchise are the factors, that gonna benefit this game a lot.
This will be a battle of Titans, I have a feeling that holidays of 2015 will be biggest in this decade and maybe even more than that.

Uncharted has become a BIG franchise in the game industry. Crazy to see how far the series has come ever since Drake's Fortune. There are more PS4's that have been sold to consumers and seeing how Uncharted is a big well known title to a lot of PS4 owners that will help it sell more than halo 5. If gamers who own an XB1 or are thinking of buying one (especially a bundle) and like FPS's and have enjoyed the Halo franchise will opt for Halo 5. However if a gamer who has a PS4 or is thinking of getting one and has enjoyed the Uncharted franchise will opt for Uncharted 4.

Since the install base of the PS4 over 18.5 million compared to 11 million for the XB1 at the time I wrote this I would expect many millions more when the Halo 5 and UC4 come out.

Now assuming the PS4 lead of 7.5 million remains the same (doubtful but!!) then that would normally mean that UC4 will sell more then Halo5 however because the two franchises belong to different genres then you really need to know how many gamers on the PS4 like action/adventure games like Uncharted compared how many gamers on the XB1 like FPS's like Halo.

So the bottom line, it will be difficult to make the call one way or the other unless you know the percentage of gamers on both consoles who like the specific genres.

The only problem Sony faces is not everyone who plays Playstation supports the Uncharted games. I mean Uncharted 3 sold approx 6.5 million copies and it released in 2011 when the install base was well over 50 million PS3's.

The other problem is Xbox users LOVE the Halo series and there will be a much higher attachment rate when it comes to that game with XB1 owners. Whether that amounts to more sales or not, who knows. That will depend on how many XB1 owners there are come the fall. But if any game is going to help MS move some XB1's, you can bet your bottom dollar it's a Halo game.

Rest assured, both games should sell very well.

I think what could help out halo 5 though is the fact that it's a multiplayer focus game where a lot of the fans love it and pay in groups where Uncharted is known for the single player experience. Holiday 2015 is going to be interesting.

If we apply that formula to the PS4, what would it sell like 2.5-3 million units (assuming 25-30 million PS4 owners)?

I also never once said that everyone who owns an XB1 is going to buy the game, as I clearly said in my comment, the attachement rates for Halo games are very high with MS gamers. That's all.

Like was said in the editorial, PS3 owners are notorious for not buying exclusives. This isn't the case with the PS4 whose exclusives sell extremely well. It also has a much higher attach rate than the PS4.

Because it's the biggest exclusive release on that platform for the next 12 months it's not gonna be a GTA5 selling 30 million but sure it'll do just fine for itself on the little we've seen of it so far. Uncharted 4 is gonna be epic.
Halo collection sold pretty bad if these 10-12 million fans are still yet to buy the best of the best so far the collection is pretty epic and I'm not even a halo fan but I'd be all over it had I bought an xbox one, the fact that barely 10% of their fans have gone and bought the game doesn't look overly good for Halo 5 I'm sure a lot more people will buy it because it's new but come on it's like call of duty had its day, bungie had had enough sold the rights same with gears of war and epic selling that.

franchise fatigue, halo one year i remimber had three installments. uncharted is close but not as close as halo to faigue of franchise. Not all 10 millions were "fans" just like cod 90% of it is hype. The hype for halo has drastically decreased as the fps market has been flooded with equally as good choices. i really doubt it will sell 10 million. On the reverse side playstation is now the "cool" thing so uncharted will probably sell more just due to that(maybe not more than 3 because of instal base). So a lot has changed sense halo made those numbers. Plus by the sales of xone every single person who has an xone would have to buy halo to make those numbers which makes it even more considerable less likley

Please let me know in what year Halo had 3 installments. It is on Halo 5 in its 3rd generation. ODST and Reach also were not released the same year. UC I believe has a higher level of saturation with 1,2&3 coming out last generation alone as well as a Vita game. Each game was Nathan Drake whereas Reach and ODST are not Master Chief games at all. In fact ODST was first considered DLC.

In my opinion, Halo 4 was only good because it was handed over. They managed to screw up a collection consisting of games they didn't make (except Halo 4) and now we're to just believe that Halo 5 Guardians will be amazing from these guys?

I'm pretty lukewarm on Halo at this point. I however loved the Uncharted games and The Last of Us was an amazing story. If Naughty Dog continues that into Uncharted 4, I have no doubt it will have a great story and gameplay. I can't say the same for 343 and Halo at this point.

Well Halo 5's multiplayer beta was tbh well received by fans and critics alike. Compared to MCC's online experience, halo 5's online experience was pretty solid with some delays here and there. You have to factor in MCC was a remaster of the OG games, Halo 5 is being built from the ground up.

Xbox One did not revive the Halo franchise with Halo MCC like it was supposed to. People weren't going crazy for Halo5 beta. Halo will be outsold be CoD even though they made Halo more like CoD. Its not as simple as pure installbase calculations. single player games(Although uc4 has some mp) sales tend to suffer from secondhand sales influx, meaning when the First wave of players have completed the story they sell the game.

Makes sense. If PS4 is at 18MM usnits sold and X1 is at say 11MM....That's a difference of 7MM potential sales. If X1 sells Halo 5 on say 60% of consoles that's roughly 6.5MM copies and say an additional 2MM new consoles plus Halo so...8.5-9MM copies of Halo 5 to start. If Sony only sells Uncharted 4 on 40% of their consoles or roughly 7.2MM copies it wouldn't take long for them to catch up given U4 is going to definitely move units. Plus I figure U4 will sell on more like 50-60% of PS4's. Just my guess.

My prediction would be U4 after a few years: 5 million. Halo however traditionally sells most copies in the launch window so I would say H5: 5.5 million within first year.

Look Gears of War 3 outsold every PS3 exclusive in 2011 (just 2011 btw) INClUDING UNCHARTED 3 and that's just Gears which is the second in command to Halo. I'm pretty sure Mario Bros Wii outsold the entire Uncharted trilogy + God of war3 + GT5 or was close

Personally, I prefer halo, but I dont expect it to outsell a game that has access to twice the userbase of the XB1. Halo is a great game. Probably the best multiplayer FPS ever conceived. But it cant part the red sea or make miracles happen.

Now, if both consoles had an even number of sales, I would say halo will outsell UC4, no questions asked. Even if they were behind sony by about 2 million. But the gap is nearly double, so.... It is what it is.

Well Microsoft are pretty much starving the Xbox One of exclusives in 2015 so they will be very hungry for a game at this point then again 343 made such a mess of MCC I wouldn't be surprised if the game did flop, Who knows Uncharted 4 will be a masterpiece though the multiplayer I hope isn't like 3 though that MP sucked.

I wouldnt be surprised now with all the hype Uncharted gets. I loved TLOU but there's something about Uncharted that I hate. Just not my cup of tea I guess!

Halo on the other hand is, I can't wait to see the changes they make after beta.

The number of PS4 consoles in peoples homes alone is enough to make this a realistic outcome. Uncharted 4 interests me more than Halo 5, but that's not saying i am not stoked for Halo 5 either i most certainly am, just that i like my single player games more, so i just hope 343i don't skimp on the campaign to please frag fanatics.

I think everyone is forgetting about the two other major fps shooters coming out around the same time as Halo. Like them or not, Battlefield: Hardline and COD: Whatever are coming out. COD: Advanced Warfare is actually a pretty good game and has revitalized the franchise to it's mammoth numbers once again, something that will undoubtedly affect the numbers of units sold to consumers when the next entry releases. UC4 will suffer from this too, but not to the same degree simply because they're two different genres. People would be mindful to consider this when they talk about the numbers each of these games will produce.

This is the worst article I've ever seen. Is it even news. Why am I here. But while I am. I put a fair few hours into the halo 5 beta. I thought it was fantastic. So it's over to 343 not to screw it up from here. However of course uc4 will outsell halo 5. Apart from last of us. It's playstations flag ship game and Sonys install base is double microsofts and growing. As long as I can get consistent mo games on both though I don't care.

Im buying both,would love a Drake trilogy remastered before UC4 though,never bought a PS3 only Playstation I havent owned,never played Halo on my 360 either spent all my time on Gears MP,got the 4 campaigns on MCC to get through when I get home in July after a long 7 month deployment in The Middle East with the Royal Navy,July cant come fast enough although I have The Order 1886 and Rainbow Seige along with my TB headset being shipped out so I can game on the American base so not all bad

Well lets see, there are like 10 million more PS4s sold than Xbones so I would say its a give . Not to mention this is Naughty Gods we're talking about here. They only make the best and the next Uncharted is shaping up to be the best game they ever made. Halo doesn't have any hype around it so Im calling Uncharted by a landslide.

This is simple since the games are miles apart from each other its stupid to even say which game is better. Only mentally defunct fanboys will even argue that point. Numbers, numbers, numbers. The PS4 userbase will still be bigger than the XB1 so just based off of mathematics that should be enough. The only thing that will help Halo 5 is if they do a full open beta to prove that the online works and not only works but works great. If they dont people will sit on their wallets and wait for the guinea pigs to try it out.

obviously the console with the most consoles has a higher chance of selling more copies of an exclusive game... this is just kinda stupid... that being said halo is just kinda ran down at this point IMO, it has not real halo-ish identity anymore to me :/

The last of us Remastered outsold the master chief collection. I think it is a safe bet.

and by the time Uncharted 4 comes out, the gap in sales between the PS4 and xbox one will be much bigger than it is now. considering the PS4 is still nearly doubling it in global sales each week.

While critically acclaimed ... ND's games at best sell 5-6 million.

Halo routinely gets 8-13 million so I seriously doubt Uncharted 4 will outsell Halo if both come out this year.

If doesnt say Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Pokemon, or Mario ... the chances aren't high that your game outsells Halo.

It hasn't ... 5 million for the original version on PS3. The remastered edition has sold almost 3 million thanks to be given away for free this holiday with PS4 bundles.

I guess if you combine the remastered edition ... it will eventually get to 10 million but it wouldn't otherwise.

User base doesn't matter. The Playstation fanbase in general buys more GTA and CAll of Duty than Naughty Dog's games. It's third party games that sell Playstation mainly to the average consumer.
