Not bad, this is a decent F2P MMO. It's a bit late for the game for the most part, but being able to play it on the go may give it back some life.

Hopefully the DLC takes place after the end of the game, because I want to know what happened after spoiler and how it impacts the rest of the universe in The Outer Worlds.

Nice idea, but I have to say that tOW, although an excellent proof of concept, needs to really upscale/increase its budget to realise it's potential as a series... the base game was so underdeveloped/spread so thin that I think DLCs would feel like a chore.

The RPG aspects (skill trees, perks, quest paths), writing and dialogue options were quite pedestrian and lacklustre when compared to the likes of something like Fallout: New Vegas.

I would still absolutely buy their DLC though, when to just support Obsidian, I'm delighted that a game like tOW can exist in today's gaming world.

Scale is *incredibly* overrated.
If every area had been as tight as the starting location, the game would have been amazing, but it does drag on in some places (mainly Monarch.)

I think it has a couple of main issues that make it just "really good" instead of "amazing."
1: It's too easy to be good at everything. You can have an effective 75+ in just about everything with really minimal effort, and checks that ask for more than that are really rare, so it's very uncommon for you to have to actually sacrifice anything.
2: The dialogue trees are too shallow. Most often you don't really have to pay attention to what the character is saying or their personality or anything to succeed, it's just "use X skill to win" which isn't very interesting
3: The loot system doesn't really fit the game, and there's not enough variety in weapon types. These might not be big problems on their own but combined with #1 is just adds to your characters not really feeling like they have much of an individual style mechanically.

I agree -- I didn't mean 'upscale' in the size sense; creative linearity is a great thing. All good points!

Awesome can't wait to get back into the Outer Worlds.

toxic-inferno1424d ago

Great news. The Outer Worlds is probably my favourite RPG from the last few years. I'll certainly look forward to returning to the game for some new stories!

It would be nice to have some new crew-mates. The ship felt fairly quiet, even with all 6 available. But I think they'll save additional crew for the sequel.
