IGN's Best of 2014 Winners Are Here

IGN - 2014 has been a very different year for gaming than 2013 was. This time last year, there were a small number of games that felt truly beyond the pale; this year, there might not be one game with the gravitas of The Last of Us, but there are still a ton of outstanding games to play, no matter which platform you play on. The result is a race that’s wide open, and a field that’s flush with excellent games that belong in your collection. Without further ado, here are the nominees for IGN’s Best of Games 2014.

The best PS4 game is actually a PS3 game? Should that even be allowed or considered fair? Kind of a slap in the face to Infamous, Killzone and other games that were made for PS4.

I think it is, and IMO the remasters were better than anything released in 2014.

TLoU, GTA5, Halo: MCC, and Tomb Raider were still the best games of the year, remasters or not.

Yeah but let's be honest. Last of Us was probably the best game on any platform (in my opinion) in both 2013 and 2014.

That's not to say that other games aren't more fun or better, but Last of Us has such a lasting impression on a person, like the first couple Halo's or Half-Life.

If this isn't an indictment on Sony's 2014 exclusive then I don't know what is. Uncharted better not let me down in 2015.

I'm in the extreme minority in that I think TLOU was decidedly mediocre, so I have to disagree with you.

I completely agree, for me I'd already played the last of us through on the PS3 a good 5 or 6 times. So, by the time I played it on ps4, yes it was still amazing, but it wasn't a new experience. For me the win should have gone to Far Cry 4 or Alien: Isolation. I know a lot of people complain about FC4 being too similar to FC3, but this is the first Far Cry game in the series that I have played, and the Co-op has provided me with endless hours of fun that I haven't had in any game for a very long time

I don't think it deserved that title, there were better remasters. Not that the content isn't great, but it was f***** at launch. If it had not been for that it would have gotten my vote.

Dragon Age: Inquisition it's GOTY according to IGN.
A lot of different choices for 2014 game of the year, Edge gave to Bayonetta 2, anyway, both are great.

It's fun but hard as hell

Its hard the first Time and on Akumu mode but once you know what to do and memorize everything, its becomes easy but its harder than all the games on the list combined.

Personally, I didn't like how it decided 'let's have a locker scene' and then moved on to 'let's be Resident Evil 4 from now on'. I hear that much of the game sticks to a RE4-like formula. I liked the bosses and the changes in environment in RE4 but I never felt the need to have a rehash of that style again. And the difficulty level of The Evil Within seems too dependent on how bothered you can be to run away rather than fight.

First off my opinion is that it is a terrible game. I could make a whole rant on why I think so, but that is beside the point.

If you think it's hard try playing TLoU on Grounded difficulty. You will think TEW was a kiddy game.

Dragon totally deserve to win. Nothing else comes close. In a year full of disappointments this game delivered on multiple fronts. You might even say it restored my faith in the console industry.
