What’s At Stake For Nathan Drake In Uncharted 4

Nathan Drake has always had a thirst for adventure: the bigger the risk, the bigger the adrenaline rush. Throughout the years, we've seen him exude confidence, recklessly throw himself into danger, and do it all with a carefree attitude and a joke to complement it. But Nathan Drake has slowly been unraveling before us, making us more skeptical of him. It's clear that he's been putting up a front concerning some issues from his past, and Naughty Dog is ready to provide some closure in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

That he is gonna be missed just like Crash if it becomes his last game :(

CocoWolfie3390d ago

aw dont worry :( im sure it is, itll be a good send off

His Identity I'm guessing

" But his comfortable lifestyle is cut short when his long-lost brother, Sam, appears. "

Still feels a little "Soap Opera-ish" for Uncharted. As I said in another article I don't see how Marlowe missed that in the last game when she was trying to get into Drakes head and she had load of files on him. She would of used his brothers death straight away...at least a hint.

"Also, don't expect everybody to be happy with Drake's decision to help his brother and return to his treasure-hunting lifestyle."

I don't want to see Elena break up or fall out again. This is why I wanted Uncharted 4 to revolve around Drakes and Elena relationship so they could go on an adventure together like Rick and Evie from the Mummy.

I'm scared that Sams inclusion will limit how much screen time Elena and Sully have. This is their last time I'd rather see them more then Sam. Like we had in Drakes Fortune

"You can't have the adventure life and settle down with the person you love"

I really hope that trailer we saw Todd Stashwick doing a voice over will still be what Sam is like.

I want the relationship to be strained where Sam doesn't really care for Drake after what happened but Drake is willing to sacrifice everything to make it right until (and I hope) Sam betrays him leaving it up to Sully and Elena to rush to his aid (his real family). They've got to give off that impression there is hope for them to re-connect only for us (the viewers) to obviously see that Sam isn't going to change.

Really looking forward to this game, hope they will come back to it though in the far future.

I highly disagree with you. I really want to see how Sam/Drake relationship will fold. We dont see many brother relationship in games except very rare. Offcourse there was Brothers a tale of two sons, the feels in that game were deep. I want to see that here. Hopefully Sam has a humorous personality like Drake.

It's fine if it felt natural but it just seems like he's a plot device so they can look into Drakes past without bringing it up out of blue. If there was a hint of a brother in the past games even that would soften the blow but come on even Sully would of mentioned it once if not Marlowe.

It's fine if this was just another instalment, we could learn about Drake and just hope the next game will focus on other characters but the fact it could be the last game in a long time....I'm sorry but we could have more development to the characters we already have to give them one proper send off.

Not just Elena and Sully but even characters like Cutter, Chloe and even Rikka Raja who has never been in the games. Hell Eddie Raja or Harry could appear in a flashback

"We don't see many brother relationship in games except very rare"

We see them more then Husband and Wife relationships and that says something

I'm really interested to see how it unfolds too. We've never met a single character actually in Drake's bloodline & the whole point of a character like Sully was to show that Drake could make his own family when all else fails. Introducing an actual blood kinship & then potentially destroying it would only strengthen his bond w/ characters like Sully, Elena, Chloe & Cutter. It really is the perfect story for the universe & where it naturally should've went. I'd feel like we were missing out if it told any other story, especially following on from the themes unfolded in Drake's Deception.

lashes2ashes3390d ago

There relationship is strained like you said but it's the other way around. Sam is self destructed and got himself in way over his head and so Nathan is trying to save his brother. It's the typical you got out and then they pull you back in story. It's all in the game informer article.

jb2273390d ago

We still don't know what the timelines are, or what Sam's motivations may be. We saw them acting chummy in the PSX demo but that could either be an act or it can be taken from a different point in time.

As far as Stashwick's involvement & his exodus in particular, in that video GI released yesterday Druckman pointed to the reason for the shakeup being more involved w/ the direction being off & the worlds being too open in particular. In that instance I'm kinda glad, I like Uncharted as a focused & at least fairly linear experience to allow for the tension that builds & the moments of levity that wouldn't necessarily be possible if it was closer to an open world title. I doubt that the main story changed all that much & maybe the scripting was all that was truly tweaked.

I'm not personally concerned for the title now because between the demo & the GI article they've said all the right things for me personally in regards to furthering Drake's adventure. I do see what you are saying w/ Marlowe not mentioning his brother maybe being a bit of a plot hole but I'm fine w/ it if it allows for a good story to be told. The whole true brotherhood angle is really interesting as we've never met someone actually in Drake's true bloodline, even though the series is tied so closely to exactly that. It hits home for me because I've never known anything about my bloodline being an adoptee, so I could always relate to the idea of friends becoming true family & that blood ties can be severed much easier than a true kinship w/ another person. I personally think the brother angle is not only the perfect story idea for this sequel, but its a perfect capper for the whole story if it need be. Cool ideas you've cooked up though, I'd say at least a few of those points are definitely likely to make the final cut.

As you've said about Marlowe it is a plothole but it's quite a big one. I mean this is ND, you would think they would be a little careful with this kind of thing.

Marlowe goes into everything with the file.

http://youtu.be/kqHCHQJ5xeo...

"Skip the mind games, you don't know me"

"In fact, I suspect I know you better than anyone Mr Drake...of course that's not your real name is it, but we won't dwell on that shall we. Mother commits suicide. Father surrenders son to the state at the age of 5. Entrusted to the St Francis Boys Home"

See what I mean

Mother, Father, Home life, where Drake went after...yet no brother. How the hell does she miss that, it's such a plothole so I'm hoping two things will happen

1) NaughtyDog actually explain it in the game about why Marlowe would miss it

or

2) Sam isn't actually his brother, he's actually someone he grew up with at the orphanage and they became "brothers" with how close they were looking after one another. This would explain how both of them became thieves

jb2273390d ago

@Foxtrot

Both of those theories could definitely pan out. Might be that she was holding back anything on his brother for her own motives (like possibly he was actually in her employ behind the scenes), or like you mention he's not actually his brother. I'm thinking they are blood relatives though, the resemblance in looks & the similar tone of voice that they share would point in that direction. At the end of the day I don't really feel that its a big enough plot hole to be wholly worried about though at this point. The story potential out of an actual blood relative (the first one actually introduced in the series) juxtaposed against his history of forming close bonds w/ others & his obvious issues w/ the roles of "family" would supersede a potential plot hole for me personally. It just opens up for a perfect examination of the family that really matters to him: Sully & Elena, along w/ the rest of the crew. I'd personally be fine if they didn't confront the Marlowe angle head on, its far from a dealbreaker for me personally.

I've never been a fan of Elena, she comes off as a control freak IMO. And just look at all the fights and breakups they have had, clearly they are not right for one another. Drake should leave her, he could do a lot better.
