Check Out The Differences In Xenoblade Chronicles X Between The E3 2014 Footage And November 2014

We’ve heard that development on Xenoblade Chronicles X is nearly complete which is good news for those of us avidly waiting for it. In the meantime a fan of the game over at GameFAQs named Ch33bDragonite has published some gifs and screenshots comparing the E3 2014 footage with the November 2014 footage.

Texture looks sharper in the Nintendo Direct. Finally a game that has not been downgraded at launch lol.

I wish people would compare the graphic from first trailers to the current ones, trust me, the downgrade is there, massive one.

The texture quality is in fact the same. That the graphics appear to be different is due to the lighting. The shot you are pointing out features a lot of light. That leads to few shadows, what in turn leads to the impression the fidelity is reduced.

for example these shots from the same trailer tell a completely different story, simply because of a more favourable light/view angle.

Well I suppose I didn't explain myself very clearly.

The game has not been downgraded, but that doesn't mean it has got an upgrade either, it has looked exactly the same all the time.

yeh, the changes are subtle but they are there. the latest images look slightly more detailed and there is more foliage.

I can see a difference, but I couldn't say one looks better or worse than the other TBH.

But they certainly moved a few rocks in the background XD.

The grass textures looks more refined now. Especially in the first gif.

I spotted some more foliage added, changes made to the shapes of the trees, slightly better mountain and grass textures too. Not bad for Monolith Soft's first HD title. Although, I'm sure we'll be more impressed by the attention to detail and scale of the environments than the graphical fidelity of Xenoblade Chronicles X if the first Xenoblade title is anything to go by.

To me the Nintendo Direct ones look better i.e. the trees in the first pic and the backgrounds more in the 2nd, plus for whatever reason the lighting etc. in the direct shots look better to me.

Judging by the fact Xenoblade was one of the best looking games on the Wii, I'm expecting this sequel to impress. And no doubt it will.

Looks the same to me. Only small aesthetic differences like certain rocks and trees are different sizes from build to build

The biggest issue I had was things like trees and animals popping in during cutscenes, I'm sure they've fixed it by now.

Otherwise lighting, textures, and coloring has improved a lot over the few months.

Isn't it natural for a game in development to improve as it approaches release? I'm just hoping story and combat have been worked on a lot more than the graphics

Not in our modern western world. That is why some of us are still amazed when we see games coming out with actual improvements.

This generation - "bullshoting" is becoming less of a slick move, and more of a trend. So many titles were bull-shot in the last year alone, it's ridiculous. And just in case you're unaware of what the term means, it's simply releasing screenshots or running heavily customized builds that show more detail than the final product. A la Watch Dogs, for example.

Regardless, while I'm not a graphics-junkie, it's always great to see Nintendo being 100% truthful with their releases. They may be sporting the weakest hardware, but their studios sure know how to use it right.

Somebody needs to tell Ubisoft this, because I think they need a refresher in game development. Graphically, the game is supposed to increase in visual fidelity when more development time is given, not decrease.
