Sega is a waste of money I don't see how the 360 can be profitable from them. The sega sports games, the sonic games on wii, and all the last generation casual games are profitable. But coming on 360 they have to spend so much more for the advanced graphics but the games aren't going sell well except for Shemmue 3 that is the one exception. Shemmue 3 is probably 360 exclusive regardless if MS buys them or not so buying Sega would be pointless and a waste of money.

Bungie like any other company in the world exists to make money. I've yet to meet someone that wakes up and goes to work with the sole purpose of being creative. The idea is to turn your creativity into something that earns you a living. Halo has made Microsoft and Bungie quite a bit of money. Once you have established yourself and have a decent chunk of cash, you can then afford to do something "creative".

Once Bungie kicked the collective worlds ass with Halo 3, they were in the unique position a successful developer hits and that is where to go next. Bungie wanted independance, that was the next step up. Microsoft could have retained the bungie name along with the Halo IP, but wisely choose to let Bungie be Bungie and still have a good working relationship with the talent that makes the games.

Your version of reality sounds nice, but goes against common sense and the little fact that everyone is in this business to make money.

It isn't a 'nice dream'. Your idea is welcome to the 1800's. Your way is the most outmoded in this industry and everyone knows it. It is why I have watched one person after another abandon the Ubisoft studio where I have done somw work here. Your idea is worry about the money first and then we will see how we can channel the creativity to make more of said money. The product actually suffers because of this because money, rather than creativity is the focus. Result? Product is less worthy and makes less money.

New school of thought employed by companies like Insomniac and now Bungie again. Be creative and that creativity will innovate and develop things that will enthrall people. You get groundbreaking titles and the money follows in line. It doesn't mean you are ignorant of costs but you know and exercise the fact that creativity, that true innovation sells more than sleight of hand tricks to save dollars.

It is like people that hate working out to get fit. The fitness routine is such a chore but they want that end result. So they suffer through every workout looking at their watch. But when they embrace those workouts and love them, have fun with them, the fitness follows in line.

It is time to join the 21st century and get rid of outmoded thinking. otherwise I don't know anyone that would want to work in a company run according to your Draconian ideas. Does this mean Lair was a success? It was a very creative game that used the Sixxaxis motion controls, yet it didn't sell anywhere near as much as expected. At the same time Halo 1, 2, and 3 were very successful and you believe Bungie was in bad shape because the were unable to be creative on the titles? It is sad you do not have the intellectualism to understand what I am talking about. Too bad it requires thinking outside the box or else you and I might actually be able to converse. There is a vast difference between ingenuity and creativity versus a gimmick and I think most motion controls are gimmicks. I have a Wii but the fact is most games on there are just pure crap.

Regarding Lair I had no trouble with the controls. The newer analog versions work well but the game had a host of other issues really not related to controls schemes at all. Like I said, if controls are the only thing that make your game then the game is ass in the first place.

Sorry but you are dead wrong. The real world does back me up. Bungie was bleeding personnel like a stuck pig and many of them grew to not just dislike but outright despise working there. I like the HALO series, do not misunderstand that. But the fact is HALO2 couldn't put a dent in PS3 sales and HALO 3 came and was then quickly crushed by COD4. Sorry pal but the real word does back me up. Bungie was suffering under the lash of MS. Viva Pinata is possibly the most under rated Xbox title to date. Rare did a fanatastic job creating a new IP that has not received the praise or sales it deserves. Did Nicrosoft put pressure on Bungie to make a Halo sequel? Absolutely. The reason for this was the demand and pressure from the millions of fans. I am sure that Microsoft would want to duplicate the series success on a dozen more IP's if it were possible.

Take a look at Microsoft Game Studios portfolio and you will see more than one game that has taken a chance with creativity. To say they only want to push multiplatinum sequels is unfair at best.

Ofcourse money is generally the most important thing to people but some people also prefer to have fufilling and meaningful jobs. For example if am a CEO of a company its nice to get the big bucks but it would be even better if my work will help me reach my full potential.

MS is very similar to EA where money is put before everything else with little emphasis on quality and fostering creativity. You talk about Lair but at least they tried unlike say EA that does the same thing again and again without any innovation. I agree that this is the way of the world right now with mass production and consumption and everything feels like it docent have a soul. However if you play a game like MGS4 you can just tell how much effort Kojima productions put into it unlike say Halo 3 which felt like just another generic FPS that was rushed out to beat the PS3.

Morgan is right. All the reported stories back him up. Infinity Ward didn't compromise on quality and they reaped the benefits with COD4. The fact that MS has lost their grip on a few devs that were resposible major hits like Halo,PGR,Mass Effect is a sign.

Ya know, when people request sequels to a lot of old Sega titles, the sales turnout is never decent.

Take Shenmue 2 for Xbox, how do you go from 1.2 million units sold of the first game sold on Dreamcast to the second barely selling 200 thousand copies. Shenmue 2 on Xbox quickly found it's way to the bargain bin.
With that in mind, is anybody really surprised that there's never going to be a Shenmue 3?

Skies of Arcadia Legend also sold poorly on GameCube and don't even get me started with Crazi Taxi 3 on Xbox.

The big problem with sega is that they are spreading themselves to thin and cutting way too many corners in development. why... cause they have very little money to take risks with. i worked as a tester at sega and believe me the things they have let go out on release you'd be shocked. sega can't afford games to over run their deadlines. if they were bought out not only would they be tied to one hardware which would already improve quality and allow more space for gameplay development they'd have the finacial backing to do things properly. missing deadlines to improve their games becomes a possiblity.

The only platform that would lose on this deal is Nintendo. Probably most of the Nintendo users are kids, kids like the kind of SEGA Rally , Sonic graphics. Becoming a 2nd party developer for Microsoft could possibly fix a lot of Sega's problems - half-assed quality assurance, for instance - by providing security Sega doesn't really feel it has any more. They've been obsessing over meeting deadlines and capitalising on a well-established and generally quality-indifferent fanbase (the hardcore Sonic fans), and that can only get Sega so far. Microsoft could give them the ability to take time with their games, to properly fix them after playtesting, to keep the crazier elements in check or remove them outright (whoever thought Sonic 2006's story was acceptable should be shot).

As for who it hurts most, that just seems a silly question to ask: the Wii will barely take a dent from losing Sega's support, it's doing so well; the PS3 hasn't seen a large enough amount of quality games from Sega for Sony to really miss them. If Sony or Nintendo were to make Sega a 2nd party for them, Microsoft wouldn't really shed a tear either. All anyone's losing is the potential for good games, which doesn't exist at present anyway and probably won't ever unless they go 2nd party.

EA has gotten blasted in recent years for its business practices but the truth of the matter all EA is doing is copying what Microsoft was doing for years and years even prior to the console war.

Microsoft has never been one to produce a product and let it compete against other products, allowing consumers to choose which one they like... They've always bullied and bought up everyone and everything and the result of that is that you get force fed things like Windows Vista and Windows ME because you have no alternatives.

You do not want Microsoft buying up everything in sight any more than youw ant EA doing it. Nintendo and Sega both made a huge error that ultimately led to Sony's success with the PS1 when they basically took advantage of their monopoly status and pissed on developers left, right and center.

In the words of one famous developer "Sony was the first company we actually wanted to work with".

This is not to say Sony is all sunshine and rainbows by any stretch of the imagination, I'm just giving history here.

The best thing Sega could do would be to downsize. They have 3x more employees than Nintendo, and their turnover is small in comparison. My personal opinion is that Sega NEEDS to merge with Nintendo. Sega and Nintendo were, and still are the gaming roots for many current gamers, and they made good games before this casual vs hardcore thing even existed. Sega and Nintendo are more alike than we give credit for, hence the battles of the past. They were both competing for the same market.

Sega and Nintendo have come to have many characters, mascots and franchises popular the world over. Sega has a much needed arcade background that Nintendo would benefit from, and it would give Nintendo access to some great franchises to revive. Let's be blunt, Nintendo hasn't come up with a good, traditional franchise for a while, and sequels are getting long in the tooth. Sega don't quite have the quality they used to, so it would be nice to see some Nintendo caliber revivals of Sega franchises. Who knows, a Sonic platformer built on the Mario engine might work.

I don't think they will go to MS. Sega obviously wants to be successful in Japan, and there the Xbox doesnt sell well. It would be more advantageous to go for a high selling system like DS or Wii.

At least I lived to see Mario and Sonic fighting in a game. I wanted that ever since I was a kid, and I was convinced it would never happen, let alone see a Sega game on Nintendo hardware.

If M$ buys SEGA.........SEGA Dev's get New Jobs at Nintendo/Konami/SONY/Capcon... .just like the 60% of Rare dev's that left to form and work at FREE RAD (Timesplitter guys).

Buying SEGA Still wont help M$ in Japan or the rest of the world. XBOX is a Seat warmer, only keeping SONY's seat warm.

And 'if' they try it will be seen as a desperate move that proves M$ is bully that wants all the Money.

This is pointless anyway its a rumor ,ms will not buy sega nor will sega sell.Why you ask because the people that own sega have a long history of pride in what they do.There a large arictle in one of the mags i have awhile back that talks about sega and its history.Sega will watch there company sink before thell let someone else tell them what they can and cannot do.There a very oldschool jap company and id say most would leave sega before that happen.

I highly doubt MS will buy Sega.
Sony and Nintendo have series exclusive by Sega that are made for those systems and I wouldn't think they would let their exclusive developers leave to their competitor.

Personally I think Sega needs to be bought by somebody....it could really help the company try to rebuild their status....so why not a company that can afford to give sega money to make good games?

Maybe we could get Sega Sports back :)

this gen sega hasn't really released any game worth buying(mayb condemned)
sega used to own back in the old days but now they can't even do sonic right
if ms does buy sega ms would probably push sega to their limits by releasing a strong ip such as shenmue
