CES has been pretty amazing this year. Full of surprises. Lots of cool new tech.

SmielmaN3397d ago

Facial recognition scanner to open your house door? Crazy! There was pretty cool sh!t there

Tzuno3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

Smile for a photo!!! now lets just print it... open sesame.

SmielmaN3396d ago

Tzuno- not if its 3d scanning, which I believe it is even at this stage. Thanks for the disagree tho.

NuggetsOfGod3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

Sony tvs like all tv's create some extra input lag do to post prossessing and prettying up the image before showing you the image. On top of that controllers have there own lag.

Glad I don't care for watching tv or to many movies. Saves me money.
Monitors are great for gaming.

Khronikos3396d ago

Dude there is hardly any lag on great LED or Plasma Tv's. At all. You can turn off post-processing. Not scaling an image to a monitor for console games is also pretty nifty.

TKCMuzzer3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

Lol, my Sony TV has all the picture enhancements you talk of but guess what? when I turn on my PS4 the TV recognizes it is my PS4 and turns all the picture processing off in order to get the best input for gaming.

strickers3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

Actually Sony TVs have the fastest gaming response times on the market.
Don't believe me? Check HDTV Test and they use the Leo Bodnar test for genuine accuracy. The 2014 models were far ahead of rivals. I'm not a Sony TV owner either. I just bought a Samsung( few months back).

DragonKnight3396d ago

NuggetsOfGod: You're so mired in being a PC troll that you don't even know that most tvs these days have different modes with different settings. My tv has a game mode that adjusts various settings to best acclimate itself to gaming. Monitors are great until you want to sit back and relax.

Clunkyd3396d ago

@Nuggets

And what, Play on a 27 inch monitor? No thanks.
I'll take my 65" tv for the immersive experience.
Have fun being hunched to a monitor :)

If I am a fanboy, it has to be with Sony's TVs. I love them, and I have only owned Sony TVs in my life, and my father also only owned Sony.

I purchased a Samsung TV three years ago, and it only lasted 3 days, because I changed it for a Sony XBR. (I only buy XBR, though).

Something that bothers me s the lack of 4K content. Why haven't anyone released Blurry movies or whatever format with 4K? Is everyone really going to depend on Netflix?

Tctczach3397d ago

I've only owned Samsung but I've heard nothing but good things about Sony's tv's.

bouzebbal3397d ago

i bought an XDL 32P3000 6 months after i got the PS3 in 2007 and it was an amazing screen with sick display ahead of its time. it was great for gaming and the TV is still kicking today.
Bravia and Sony products in general deliver high quality. just too bad they are not marketed correctly and heavily.

Edito3397d ago

Colonel is talking the real deal Sony TVs are a blast i only used sony for once in my life i tested an LG just to shut my friend mouth they used to say you're all in love with Sony for nothing... the LG only lasted 1 week for games and fast paced content Sony is the best...

Stapleface3396d ago

Stick with Samsung. They are just plain better screens at half the price, depending on which model your looking at. With Sony you are paying for their name, when it comes to TV's. Sure Samsung has really expensive ones as well, but overall Sony just over prices their screens. I bought my son a $480 Samsung because it blew away the $1,500 Sony and LG tv's that were sitting there.

Magicite3396d ago

tbh Playstation 1-3 are the only things that I have bought from Sony. Sony products are kinda expensive here and not that popular compared to Samsung and others.

DigitalHope3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

@stapleface

If you had said that last year or about the three years before that I would have agreed, but your wrong this year.

As someone who makes a living selling tvs, Sony's are the best tvs this year in quality, price and value between samsung sony and lg.

In canada a series 7 samsung flat panel 4k 55 was 1699 and the sony x830 4k 55 was 1699 as well. Both very good tvs but the samsung does not play 4k through netflix or any other app. Sony has better online services in video unlimited which in some regions alows you to rent movies in 4k

First samsung with those features is 2999.

Samsungs in general this year are a little stripped back in features and prices and promotions have not been great this year.

SoapShoes3397d ago

Sony TVs have great picture quality and the lowest input lag making them great for gaming.

Haki11123396d ago

Love Sony Tv's but them price tags lol

pain777pas3396d ago

There is no questions about the quality of Sony's TVs. I love them. However, 400$ difference in price at the same res, maybe a bigger size with some compromises in quality but still good from Samsung is too much of a gap. I want to return to Sony for my next set but again I will go in with that mindset and then price will dictate. They need a lessor brand like their competitors like Element to get back in and gear the TV towards low input lag as a priority for gamers.

nucky643397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

big agree on sony tv - in sept. I got the sony 55inch 4k tv........and it's beyond "wow". it took me a over an hour to get settings the way I wanted but there is not a better picture anywhere. blurays, in particular look freakishly real.....picture depth, color, contrast, blacks are all amazing. the new speakers sony added this year produce the best in-tv sound I've ever heard....and sony also gave me a 300 dollar wireless subwoofer (for free) that pairs with their 4k tvs which added even more to the already great sound.

and 4k content will come. but like I said, the 1080p blu rays look fantastic - much better than I had on my 50 inch 1080p sony i was previously using.

jwillj2k43396d ago

I would argue that the Panasonic plasma's delivered the best picture quality. They consistently beat out all other brands up to their final year in production. Specifically their ZT65 (which includes Pioneers Kuro tech).

nucky643396d ago

no way - plasma is yesterdays tech.
no offense jwill - just google "sony4k tv vs plasma.

ThatOneGuyThere3396d ago

i adore sony's TVs because they do color right. Had i not gotten the deal on my 65" panasonic plasma, i would have gotten a sony

jwillj2k43395d ago

@nucky64

That search only brought up controversial topics about which one to pick. Everyone knows 4k is the future, but it will be just like 2004/5 when 'HD' came out. There will be a few years in which 4k content is severely lacking and by the time 4k has taken off in terms of popularity the tech will have advanced so expensive TV will still be outdated. I say either hold off completely or choose arguably the best TV built for today which would be a Panasonic zt60/65.

OrangePowerz3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Well, if you have the money :)

I know Sony TVs have excellent quality and quality has it's price, but they are particularly pricy. The main problem of their TV section since companies like Samsung and LG came onto the stage and offered cheaper TVs albeit at lower quality. Sony is lacking in the low-mid range TV section. Something they managed to fix in the smartphone section where they have competitive low-mid range phones, but where also their high end flagship phones have great quality while still being competitive in price.

As for 4k format. Not sure if a normal 4k movie would even fit on a dual layer Blu Ray disc. Plus there might be also a question on the material being in that resolution or not. I know movies are always shot in higher res and even old movies are above 1080p in their original recording, but I don't remember if it's below 4k or not.

ThatOneGuyThere3396d ago

Film. its not really a resolution thing. its analog. you could produce it in any resolution you want(practically) though im not sure of the current state of cinema.

4k Bluray is supposed to arrive this year, the spec was only finalized last year.

MRMagoo1233397d ago

I have had Samsung and still do have a Samsung but my gaming TV is now a Sony and the picture is loads better imo.

Omegasyde3397d ago

4k techincally isnt a standard yet, even Dell is producing 5k monitors...

nucky643396d ago

check this years CES out - "4k is going to be mainstream" is one of the stories.

NuggetsOfGod3396d ago

2016 is the rise of 4k gaming.

1440p is becoming more standard on pc.

Maxor3397d ago

I have 3 TVs in my house 2 of which are 4Ks, all of them are Samsung. But this year I think Sony has a winner by going with Google TV. Samsung Tizen OS looks interesting but I don't think it'll get any support outside of Samsung.

LonDonE3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Agreed i too am a bit of a Sony fan boy when it comes to electronics, especially their tvs! LOL
They seriously build some of the most reliable tech ever! and funny how i too got the Sony bug and addiction from my father! LOL but seriously i love Sony products, they are always bursting at the seems with tech and when you buy a Sony product you can take pride in knowing that it will still be technically relevant in years to come!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY SONY BRAVIA!!! i swear it, only s bravia owner knows what i am talking about! paying the premium price Sony demands for me is always worth it as i know it will be reliable and usually ahead of the curve with regards to tech!!

EVERYONE who comes to my house always makes a comment about how awesome my bravia picture quality is!! i always buy Sony, my multiple tvs, my lap top, smart phone (xperia) my tablet, my hifi sound system, my Sony Erickson phone,LOL (love that reliable thing) my headphones, my surround sound amp, my playstations, blue ray player etc and numerous other things LOL the list goes on and on! and without a shadow of a doubt, Sony products always outlast the competition! they are built very well!

People can hate on Sony all they want, but Sony has a loyal following of fans who like me have been buying Sony products for over 20 years and whos parents have been buying Sony products before them!!

Edito3397d ago

@LonDonE, you talked about me right there and i know what ur talking about it happened the same way with me i learned about sony with my father and today i have more than 20 years of experience with Sony and i know what my father saw back in the days... :)

MRMagoo1233397d ago

Yup bravia is the way to go for gaming or movie buffs unless you can get a huge cinema screen.

nowitzki20043396d ago

Almost anything with Sony in front of it means you will have a great product. I buy cheap $10 headphones and they ae just as good as som other ones I have paid $30 or more. I wish I could have a Sony tv but they are pricey for good reason.

Sony has never once disappointed me.

frostypants3396d ago (Edited 3396d ago )

@colonel179, hate to burst your bubble man, but it'll be years before 4K is a common broadcast format. Netflix and the like could do it, but bandwidth is a huge concern and even if they did it, so much picture detail will be lost through compression...just like streaming HD today doesn't look nearly as good as Blu-ray, only the difference will be even more noticeable. On top of this, hardly any movies are even shot in 4K yet.

4K is realistically going to need a new physical format to support it, just like 1080P did. Until then, much like 1080P did, 4K will be limited to channels that broadcast it, and that will take time. As for the internet, a quality 4K experience will require large digital downloads, and in fact this could have the best chance of near-term content. As I said before, bandwidth and compression will make the 4K streaming experience underwhelming.

CE manufacturers are pushing 4K because it is easy to market to people...just like megapixels on cameras, consumers have been programmed to put resolution above all else. Sadly, these TVs are coming out way before the content will be commonly available.

We'd be much better off if they worked harder to make OLED screens affordable. They provide a significant boost in picture quality which doesn't require a new content format.

ThatOneGuyThere3396d ago

most cable broadcasts cant even do 1080p. during scenes of heavy movement you get that crappy fragmentation everywhere.

frostypants3395d ago

This thread is probably dead, but just saw this...it's very relevant to my comment (and awesome news):
http://thedigitalbits.com/c...

Summary: there is a new 4K Blu-ray format coming out called "Ultra HD Blu-ray".

My favorite moment is when he turned the Sony ship around resulting in almost the utter destruction of their opponent in every important metric you can come up with that shut the mouths of the opposition and the naysayers that Sony would not be in the driver's seat. Resulting in worthless metrics from other parties to cover up the truth.

My most favorite moment.

Too me it felt like the end of an era for console gaming as a whole after the PS3 generation.

BLizardXD1771d ago (Edited 1771d ago )

In short it depends on how kaz made gaming more attractive to you. speaking purely from my perspective -

I considered Ken kutaragi as part of my A-team, next to Hayao Nakayama, Shigeru Miyamoto, followed by peter moore in the US. I particularly viewed Kaz Hirai as part of the catalyst for pushing games to be closer to movies in oder to be considered AAA.

a good thing you ask? yes and no, leading all the way to the future. instead of games being designed to be entertaining games are being pushed to meet hardware expectations. it sounded great at first but now it's buckling the industry unfortunately. which is why sony was a no show this E3. with more games needing to meet hardware expectations fewer games will be produced in a much longer development cycle.

it all depends though on how their gaming devision made games more attractive to you. we have moved in the direction of graphics mattering to not mattering back to mattering. and all of this is at the cost of games needing to be longer in development.

my two cents.
