Just when you think Ubisoft couldn't top themselves...

DxTrixterz3818d ago

What a great beginning of 2015 for them.

XBLSkull3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

I can confirm my game just crashes and asks me if I own it when I try to launch it. When I took my console offline it told me I needed to connect to play it.

In UBI's quest to please shareholders, they have forgot that they need to please gamers to sell product, and I think we are all fed up with this stuff now. Shareholders aren't going to be happy when we stop buying your games. I wish they would sell off the Tom Clancy brand so someone can start making good Clancy games again, though the last Splinter Cell was really good.

Narutone663818d ago

Incoming class action suit. Ubisoft better be prepared.

nveenio3818d ago

Doesn't Microsoft approve titles before allowing them on the store? Why would they approve something with such crappy DRM after their DRM fiasco? You'd think they'd say, "We know we said it was the publisher's call, but we'd like our players to be able to…you know…play."

Kidmyst3818d ago

If you bought the game and MSFT removed it from the store, why would it be unplayable? Is this MSFT DRM or Ubisoft's issue? The article doesn't really say either.

SilentNegotiator3818d ago

I'm curious as to whether this is really Ubisoft's fault or Microsoft's.

Is it some weird DRM from MS that's checking to see if the game is in the store/databanks, thus MS approved content? Or did Ubisoft seriously program the game to not work if the game were delisted?

Both possibilities manage to sound completely bizarre, but it has to be one or the other.

Just when you think Ubisoft couldn't get any dumber...they do THIS and totally redeem themselves!!!

Just when you think Ubisoft couldn't get any dumber...they do THIS and totally make us hate them more!!!

There, i fixed it for you.

It was my take on 'Dumb n Dumber' where he trades the van for a scooter lol.

CocoWolfie3818d ago

at least we've got Tetr... fuck! *assuming its still a mess XD*

Magicite3818d ago

At least issue is only on Xbox.

Gamer19823818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

More proof there is no "off switch" for DRM on Xbox. This is DRM at play and worrying for MS as if a game gets removed from the store you can no longer play it. But they sweep this under the carpet.

Psytrix3818d ago

Nothing swept under the carpet here, smart gamers had already cottoned onto Microsoft's DRM nightmare at the consoles e3 launch.

That's what is confusing me.. I don't understand why people on here are blaming UBI instead of MS, if this was strictly UBI's fault it would be affecting PS gamers.. but its not. Hmmmm..

And that's why I'm not dumb enough to buy digital games. You're already paying 60 dollars the same as physical, but when the network goes down you're locked out of the game. And this. I'll never buy digital its dumb. Digital games should be 30 dollars.

SamPao3818d ago

Chill. I got dozens of digital games and they work all day long..without internet...

Crazay3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

I have 46 games for my Xbox One 10 of which are physical discs - never had an issue. People who are worried that digital is a bad thing need to take off the tin foil hats they're wearing. I'm fast approaching the digital only era myself.

kayoss3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

I like digital game as much as the next guy. but i hate deleting them when i finish with it. I have an attachment issue i guess. Thats why i buy mostly digital, so that i know i will always have it.

Why o why3818d ago

Hmm, I too know that attachment issue syndrome very well.....I just find it hard to delete games........even ones I've platinum'ed..... shout out to my ocd brothers

Femto3818d ago

i will never buy digital (console) games for those exact reasons, on ps3 and 360 i remember having digital games and playing them fine offline, but the fact that that system will stop being supported at some point kinda sucks, servers will go down for the ps3 and 360 at some point meaning if you have a digital game that you havent installed, you cant download it anymore.

pc on the other hand i will always get digital, steam has been going strong for 10+ and its only getting bigger, there is a likely hood that one day it will go down for good but thats very unlikely.

on console i purchase every game physically, on pc i buy them digital for the most part.

these companies need to chill with harassing you with that game license bullshit and just let you play the game, digital games work fine on ps3 and 360 although sometimes they asked me to verify my game on ps3. this is happening because of the whole drm thing that happened before launch, the DRM was a big design implementation that has not been completely removed.

Femto3818d ago

on steam for example, if you buy a game and it gets removed form the store, it will stay in your library and you can download it anytime you want, it will not disappear

Femto3818d ago (Edited 3818d ago )

digital distribution is great, for pc atleast, i dont like it on console, but we will have to get used to it because it is the future

Gamer19823818d ago

Dumb to buy digital games?? I pay £40 for a digital game or £60 for a hard copy in the UK.. Not really dumb.. I got Destiny including season pass for £60.

SonyAddict3818d ago

Which part of the uk are you at because the part I'm at digital games are a lot more expensive! .

Madrigal3818d ago Show
SilentNegotiator3818d ago

I'll always buy physical when I can because I love that I can resell them if I decide that I'm done with them.

Mehmeh3818d ago

This doesn't apply everywhere when it comes to being unplayable. I just read this after finishing a couple of hours in Far Cry 4. But a friend of mine couldn't buy it in the store earlier while i was chatting with him and playing, so i guess somethings not working.

Crazay3818d ago

HAHAHA! Really?!? Aww crap. Good thing I finished it 2 days ago.

InUrFoxHole51d ago

Seriously, it's great to see devs add things to older games.

OhReginald51d ago

Sony....you're really letting ubisoft out of all all companies to out class you??? Give us the bloondborne 60 fps patch....ffs

dantesparda51d ago

I second this (Bloodborne 60fps) plus damn, Ubisoft, you're doing great but now the last thing I want youi to do is mae Far Cry Primal 60fps and AC Unity

Profchaos51d ago

Everytime someone asks for a bloodborne patch it gets delayed 1 day.

I_am_Batman50d ago

They know it's gonna cost them sales of the inevitable Remake that'll probably come around the PS6 launch.

raWfodog51d ago

Good news for when, or If, I ever play it. It’s waaay down on my backlog list lol.

P_Bomb51d ago

I like these 60fps patches. Hoping they’ll do Ghost Recon Wildlands someday.

Yi-Long51d ago

Kudos to Ubisoft for once again going back to older titles and then offering a nice upgrade for free. I know the company gets a lot of criticism, in quite a few cases understandable and justified, but in this area of contintued post-launch support for their SP games, they deserve some credit.

Ubisoft Removes Nudity in Silent Far Cry 4 Update (New Info: Changes Reverted)

Update: Ubisoft has acknowledged that the Japanese version of the game, which includes regional censorship, was mistakenly released globally. The company says it has reverted these changes in the game's worldwide branch.

Ubisoft has quietly removed nudity from Far Cry 4 in a recent update, sparking speculation about Tencent’s growing influence on the publisher.

You can murder, mame, and viciously attack people, but anything that deals with showing a body in a natural state whether for titillation or narrative, is some truly terrible thing. We are so weird with our puritan thought process. Feed our bloodlust and fuel our enjoyment for entertainment of simulating acts of harm and murder, but god forbid you see digitized TnA. It will never make sense to me.

Rebel_Scum75d ago

tbh even if they did remove it, it doesnt matter. I dont even remember when there was nudity in the game. If it was there it was so inconsequential.

B5R75d ago

Agreed. It absolutely makes no sense

Also, even though Ubisoft reverted the changes that removed nudity, there's the bigger issue of developers being able to make large changes to the game you paid for whenever they want.

Kassanova0775d ago (Edited 75d ago )

Stellar Blade comes to mind. This is why buying physical is the way to go.

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

-Foxtrot462d ago

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor462d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos462d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius462d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger88462d ago (Edited 462d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.
