Why We Quit IGN - The GameOverGreggy Show Ep 57 (pt. 1)

Greg Miller has just announced his departure from IGN on his official Twitter page in order to focus on his own project, Kinda Funny.

Abash3780d ago

"Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty leaving IGN"

Those are the only two names I recognize being associated with IGN

PeaSFor3780d ago

best luck to Greg with his new project!!

that said, i despise Colin.

Stsonic3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

Not surprising they quit considering they beg on patreon to the tune of 13k a month...

Do not fear though folks, if you pledge 1k a month Colin will make you dinner!

Blastoise3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

"A bakers' dozen!"

Glad they're still doing Beyond

AngelicIceDiamond3780d ago

Yeah there known the super popular Podcast Beyond in which I tune weekly.

Though imo hopefully the other podcast's can get just as much attention as Beyond.

I really felt IGN didn't give say Unlocked nearly as much as exposure as Beyond.

JackVagina3780d ago

wtf this sucks, arent those 2 like the only playsytion people at IGN?

WTF

morganfell3780d ago

Not a problem, goodbye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. One of the issues with the car wreck that is game journalism attempts are individuals acting as if they are celebrities and thinking they are more important than the titles on which they are supposed to be reporting.

garrettbobbyferguson3780d ago

@stsonic

Must be nice to be these people that can get a free 14k a month. Good riddens to them though.

Palitera3780d ago

Colin is the loudest and a**holest voice of the corporations in the media. I really hope he gets less attention now. In every little controverse aspect, he was always that guy who says "gamers are entitled", "they want too much", "they're getting enough and companies are right to do what they do".

Well, I hope the world gets rid of him ASAP. He doesn't seem to be a person with decent values.

Ch1d0r13780d ago

And the chick who does the News videos on youtube, but i thinks shes from IGN UK.

nveenio3780d ago

I'm sure Patreon might be a "little" different than Kickstarter, but I thought Colin was vehemently against that model of doing/starting business.

Oh well. I guess if the money is flooding into his own pocket, he's less picky.

Magnes3780d ago

If you own stock in IGN time to sell! sell! sell!

ShinMaster3780d ago

@ morganfell

They're not celebrities, but they DO have fans. They'll be doing more of what their fans like but without the restrictions of IGN.

"thinking they are more important than the titles on which they are supposed to be reporting"
You mind elaborating on that? I don't see the relevance to this.

bouzebbal3780d ago

Miller is trying to be the video game superstar journalist. i fell like that his image is more important than what he's trying to say and he fakes things so much.
Actually not a big loss since gaming journalism is at its lowest.

ifistbrowni3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

it's no surprise. Once he gained so much popularity on his shows while with IGN, plus the few time's I've seen him stream on Twitch (with thousand viewers easily), it was obvious he would depart.

He'd honestly make more money creating his own content. It's obvious he has a following.

I'm about a half hour into listening to these guys garble... Sounds like they don't want to work. It's a simple as that. They just want to be gamers + sit around bullS**** with their friends and be paid for it. The life.

Ikki_Phoenix3779d ago

well ign is done for
wont bother anyomre with these two out

Dawknight3163780d ago

Colin too... Well I'm off IGN. Too Much Water.

TheRedButterfly3780d ago

No Colin is a reason to GO to IGN. No Greg? Yeah, that's a reason to be sad.

Revolver_X_3780d ago

Dont understand the hate for Colin. He's the reason I tried Shovel Knight and countless of other indie titles. I got respect for straight shooters.

telekineticmantis3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

That's insane! That's a huge hit to Videogames culture in General. Outside of popular devs, they were the closest thing we had to what you could call celebrities.

Phi395823780d ago

You should branch out your listening.....Giantbomb is a great Podcast. The new Jimquisition is very good. Rock, Paper, Shotgun.....there are many that I found better than Game-over-Greggy, his gimmick was loud and obnoxious. That said, I still listened to Beyond consistently, but the laughs arent there as they are for the Giantbomb.

gamer78043780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

The just got max scoville. A huge plus. Too bad they can't get Tara long.

HammadTheBeast3780d ago

I consider TotalBiscuit, Angry Joe, Trump and others more highly as "celebrities" than these hacks.

Although Greg's personality was good for IGN, only thing they have going for them.

Gamer19823780d ago

Lets be honest they quit because they are huge gamers and IGN are NOT about games and havnt been for a long time.. They only care about ad revenue and will slant reviews based on ad revenue not to mention they do anime/movies/tv shows etc reviews now.. They are not the IGN they once were they are a shadow of their former selves.. All the best hosts from all the big websites have left over the last couple of years.. Gametrailers has fell apart and all there best hosts has left. A lot have gone the route of youtube..

benji1013780d ago

So you didnt watch the youtube video? Gregg begging for ad revenue and any sponsorship going? These guys would be the first to take a bribe for a good review. Maybe Moriarty has some integrity but I doubt it, the guy is so much of a Sony fanboy he struggles to be critical of games from Japan that have been slaughtered by the Japanese public.

extermin8or3779d ago

@benji well everyone has to pay the bills so obviously they will need funding and thing is they are popular enough they will get it. As they've said the new site won't be about doing reviews etc anyway so that's a non issue.

CaptainObvious8783780d ago

After Greg appeared in 25 invisible benefits as a male gamer by full macintosh I have absolutely no interest in anything this guy has to say.

elninels3779d ago

We need a Hunter S Thompson of game journalism right now

3-4-53779d ago

Know of them but not a ton about them.

* Are they trustworthy and ethical in their journalism ?

Then they will be missed.

* Were they Click Bait Journalists ? Then they won't be missed.

I don't know enough about them either way.

MrSwankSinatra3780d ago

This sucks for Podcast BEYOND. I was never interested in Kinda Funny, but I did tune in every week for Podcast BEYOND.

GribbleGrunger3780d ago

They are still doing Podcast beyond for IGN as freelancers.

MrSwankSinatra3780d ago

Where did you get this info?

GribbleGrunger3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

Two people disagree with what I said even though I posted a link to the Youtube video in which Greg and Colin actually state they are continuing on Podcast Beyond as freelancers. Remarkable.

Stop disagreeing blindly and watch the youtube video. Jesus. 18 minutes into the video: 'We are going to continue doing podcast beyond as freelancers'. LISTEN.

And just to make sure you finally get it, here's an article:

http://n4g.com/news/1649603...

hkgamer3780d ago

thats great. for some reason i listen to podcast beyond even though i hate their humor.maybe i am just that big of a sony fanboy.

anyway, gonna give you a bunch of disagrees even though you provide proof becausethis is n4g and its not allowed to state facts.

harrisk9543780d ago

Watching their live Twitch show right now... Apparently, they are continuing on with Podcast Beyond for a limited time. They do not know what will happen down the road, but it appears that IGN will be eventually having others do that podcast. So, while they are freelancing now, it is not permanent. Greg said just now that he would let everyone know when their last Podcast Beyond is airing... But, Colin did say that he would be freelance writing for IGN, as well as for other sites. The same goes for Greg freelancing on other sites.

alstruck3780d ago

And they quit on the eve of Podcast Beyond release. Oh well now IGN is pure garbage

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

@GribbleGrunger

I can't believe people actually disagreed with you. There are some really crazy f***ing people on this site.

JMaine5183780d ago

Damn, I didn't see this coming. I just started subscribing to podcast beyond

hkgamer3780d ago

they are still doing the show.

with the amount of viewers they have i wouldnt be surprised if they would constantly plug their other projects until they finally stop freelancing for podcast beyond.

Joe9133780d ago

Funny thing is if you go back and listen to the ones after September Greg mentions a lot about a new project he and Colin has been working on

CervantesPR13780d ago

colin was ok, greg was.... weird

uth113780d ago

I swear he drinks 12 coffees before doing Podcast Beyond!

His energy is both good and bad for the show.
