"Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS marks the first time that Bandai Namco worked on new entries in Nintendo’s well-known series.
As for why Bandai Namco was chosen to handle development, director Masahiro Sakurai told Nintendo Dream in the magazine’s latest issue that having a single company create the games was thought to be the best option. And since Bandai Namco has the capability to create “a large-scale fighting-game, there was only this one company.” Sakurai feels that it would have been a difficult challenge for other developers to attempt. "
Nintendo allegedly let Masahiro Sakurai work on his passion project, Kirby Air Riders, in order to convince him to direct another Smash Bros.
If that is true then it sounds like it would be more substantial than just Ultimate Deluxe plus a few new characters.
Game developer Hideki Kamiya talks about Bayonetta in the Smash Bros. games.
Kirby and Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed that the game project he referenced in his final YouTube video last October was Kirby Air Riders.
Because Pac-Man
Capcom would have been better, from a competitive gameplay point of view.
It was a smart move. Nintendo brings out the best in other companies.
Good, it's like IO Interactive and Eidos Interactive could develop new Uncharted if Sony would allow them. But of course it's obvious that the game will still remain as PS exclusive.
What I'm trying to say is, 3rd party developers can work on 1st party games owned by platform holders if they have accepted the contract offer or work. Though I'd say that Nintendo have made a great decision for this.
Capcom is the king of competitive fighting games. Get over it.
