Christmas Tip: Download Xbox One, PlayStation 4, And Wii U Updates Before Placing Under Tree

INQ: Christmas morning is meant to be a magical time of sharing gifts and seeing the joy on your kid’s faces as they open their heavily desired gift. Modern console gaming with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U is not like consoles past where you can just plug up and go though. I was reminded by a friend and fellow games writer of the agony of downloading updates for all three consoles and am passing this tip along so you won’t experience the same.

Probably not a bad idea. Same holds true for games on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Queasy3421d ago

Yep. Mentioned in the article to go ahead and install the games and download all the updates.

Not probably a good idea...a MUST. Took a day off work to watch the x1 act like a total sob, laughing at me switching between loading and installing.

I called ms that day, raising hell and got nowhere.

LOL, I remember when I was a kid and I was this eager to play my new console. But I think you should just be old school and deal with it, you're excited and all but you should wait a few more minutes.

On Christmas you should be opening a brand new sealed, never before opened box. It's tradition.

When I got my X1 last month it took me 2 hours to download the updates and install MCC with its updates. Luckily I was busy that day lol

As a kid, I would ENJOY the update process. I was weird like that. I loved the PS1 and GBA startup jingles more than half my games for them, before I ever play a new game or console (to this day) I read or at least glance through the booklets and manuals, and dick around with the in-game options, read boxes, ect, so an update is just more quirky joy for me. It just enhances the overall experience and makes the game a fraction more enjoyable since I get all hyped up. My mind was gonna blow by time I got playing Pokemon Stadium...

Anybody else like this or should I be poppin' pills for Autism?

Ha, ha, ha, I'm kind of the same way. I'm addicted to the anticipation. I get new games, that I've wanted really bad, then end up not even opening them for a few days sometimes. Kudos!

lol not at all.

I was super excited to get everything set up when I got my PS4. Its part of the fun.

The only reason I can understand this article is because Christmas will be a very heavy traffic day for new consoles to be updating. It will definitely be a slow process.

But i'm assuming you miss instruction books in games these days. If you're anything like me you do. I used to love reading the books before I played the game. Especially the oldschool NES books that had a beastiary and listed all the main characters with their pictures and short little back stories. I miss those days. I wish instruction booklets didn't go tits up, but I guess it saves devs money.

I've told everyone I know whose getting a Wii U for their kids this Christmas to do this. Easy way to avoid fighting and disappointment on Christmas morning!
