The PlayStation Camera for the PS4 has proven unexpectedly popular, and Sony is looking to push it a bit more right in time for some last minute Christmas presents with a brand new trailer.
They need to throw more first party title support and maybe some dedicated smaller titles to make this stand out. If we're being honest Kinect would have a better time in this since it is a much more advanced camera. Though I think camera's in general are mostly a gimmick with little practical use besides streaming yourself, live chat or using the microphone.
It is going to play a major part with VR. If people already have the can, the VR wouldn't seem as expensive.
I wish they would support the Move again before Morphus even comes out...
If more games utilized the camera, it would be novel but always a welcomed feature if not done crappy. I hope more people get this thing before ProMorph comes to shelves Def Agreed, The Move would def be cool for this gen if supported right.
yeah kineck is more advance what that got to do with anything you dont anyone touting ps4 is the more advance system in every post
Am I the only one who didn't know the ps camera could do half of the things I saw in that video. Damn, the camera is a lot better than I thought.
Same here, I didnt really feel the need to get one immediately since you could do voice control without it but I pretty much decided to get it anyway next year just to make the PS feel complete
Why say 'Playstation start' when you already have the controller in hand and could just push a button?
IF the controller isn't in your hand but across the room. It may save you time, so you say "PlayStation start" and then whilst it's loading the game, you can go over and get the controller. Personally I agree, but it depends on the situation I guess.
I agree...it looked like the game had to be highlighted b4 saying start. The way the the kinect makes this feature useful, is that you can access anything from anywhere. Example: If I am watching tv and I want game, all I have to say is...xbox go to x game or app and it goes there.
You can do that on the PS4 also. It's fickle though and some games don't start using voice commands. They don't have to be highlighted to start them. Here's a list of commands, which was edited to include some of the new ones. http://www.ign.com/wikis/pl... The X1 UI is a little more streamlined for voice commands though.
"it looked like the game had to be highlighted b4 saying start." No. You can say "Playstation" and then the name of any game or app on your system. It doesn't have to be highlighted first.
Well it was a bad example on the video. But you can say "Playstation" the name of a game and "Start" . It's handy if you don't want to scroll through all the games to find the one you want. Pretty convenient
I wish it would follow your head and keep it in the profile box when streaming and stuff. It's annoying that you have to position it to the exact position you are at and not move out of the box. I like all the stuff they showed they were working on for it on the SDK side of things recently, they just need to get it going.
Well it kinda does that with the last ps4 update. It will find your head in the room and put the box around it.
I want to know if there will be a white one available. They do standard black, but what about those of us that have a white PS4? They even made some grey ones for the anniversary console. If there is a white camera available then someone please feel free to correct me lol. But anyway, I don't have any reason just yet to purchase a camera. I think a new EyeToy game could be a lot of fun! That would interest me more than The PlayRoom.
Hmmm...seems it sits on top of the TV in most cases, and those are typically black. It's hard to see most of the time.
LMAO...I know this is not an xbox article/title but I have to say....the kinect has had these features (and a lot more) since day one, but people talked crap about it, and called it useless. I guess its only cool if Sony does it????
Kinect is super advanced in comparison. It auto adjust the with to match the people in the room and follows you when you move, auto zooms when you are the only person or the on speaking. It it a tech marvel. I use it in a few Kinect only games, but also use it to control Ai in dragon age, alot for Skype, snap, record that, dash option and Bing searches for games. It makes things faster and simplified for me. It also auto logs me in when I am in front on the camera and the system is on. Xbox on and turn off are still my main way to power it on or off. I it breaks it will definitely be missed. I would have to get it fixed on buy another some where. It is good that Sony is now starting to focus on this again though, I would like to see more ideas developed. The more people working on ideas the better. But developers are the ones that need to see how the tech can be smartly implemented to make their games better for those who have these cameras. Beware and Bethesda are good and constant at using voice commands and menu option for selecting weapons and spells without leaving the action.
eyetoy had those features befoee kinect idiot, get your facts straight
Really? You could say "Playstation Start" and your PS2 turned on? That's crazy!! .....Guess you had a beta version of something that never came out for the rest of us.
I like how everyone acts like MS invented a camera for its console, when it's a device that was clearly "inspired " by the eyetoy camera. Motion sensoring and movement scanning was done by the eyetoy during the ps2 era. Hell you even had eyetoy sports. Sure kinect has more functions, but it is expected when you rip most of its features from your competitors device. Also the Playstation Camera is a logical evolution of the eyetoy camera. Lets not act like Sony is "copying " MS(whichs idea MS copied in the first place anyway)
Its cool because it was optional from the start and if anyone wants the camera it only costs 60$. There's a reason why some people hated Kinect and it was the fact that they were forced to buy it with the console in the beginning. Fortunate for those people Microsoft dropped Kinect from the package and reduced the price by 100$. Not a bad thing for consumers in my opinion since they have 2 skus to choose from now. Edit: I've noticed that ever since Microsoft created a kinectless SKU people are not complaining about the device.
The features are the features, what is cool is cool if my care cost an extra $5000 for automatic driving, and tires that never go flat, that does not make automatic driving and never flat tires, any less cool. I would consider those convenient and cool features, if I could afford it or not. I don't let perceptions get to me, and I wish more people took that approach in life. IMO the features in the kinect are amazing, a technical marvel and well worth the $. But to call it trash and useless, but call the PS eye amazing is confusing to me. Yes it is cheaper but it does A LOT less than the kinect.
I am using the camera with Alien Isolation (peeking mode) at the moment, which is kinda neat. The game also has an option to pick up sounds around you in your room, which can lead to your hiding position being compromised while avoiding aliens or human enemies. The voice control I have played around with a little, I must say it is not that impressive, or that much of a game changer at a moment in my opinion. It picks up words really well, I just think it doesn't make using the console that much more convenient. I hope we will see some titles that will make more active use of the camera. I always was interested in the kinect and hope Sony and game makers see the same potential for the ps camera. Now what I am really looking forward to is project Morpheus.
It works incredibly well for War Thunder. I also do a weekly show on The Playroom. I love the camera.
A bunch of my friends have only just discovered the PlayStation Live broadcasts, as they are yet to get a PS4, but have Vitas; the UK PS Store just got a free Vita app to watch PS4 games/shows streaming! Anyway, they're loving it and totally addicted! I keep telling them to come and play some frickin' games with me lol!
I for one am looking forward to vr morpheus. It's going to be cool if Sony does it well.
the irony i swear
