Minecraft: Story Mode Confirmed and Will be Released In 2015

The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.

Minecraft is all about emergent narrative. You can't make a story out of that, because there is zero intentional narrative content within the confines of the game.

tbh I think it's a good challenge for Telltale, instead of making a game based on franchise with rich lore and background stories now they have to make a story out of a sandbox game with no story at all.

Unless they allow players to create their own cutscenes, dialogue, etcetera for them to play and share I don't expect it to be that good. MC is largely about creativity. Heck, they could even add Kinect support for animation and body tracking to record it. Otherwise if it's just another point and click game where you must chose one over the other I don't know how far it's going to go in MineCraft lore.

Knowing virtually NOTHING about Minecraft, I think this is awesome for Telltale as it seems almost entirely up to them where the narrative goes. Obviously MS will have final approval, but outside of "Steve" and Creepers there (doesn't seem to be to my knowledge) any defined characters or story to this at all. The world is their oyster, so to speak...

It has potential to sell well, saying the least.

The Walking Dead is sort of their magnum opus with The Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones being okay at best in terms of reception (with The Wolf Among Us being largely ignored compared to The Walking Dead).

Minecraft is a really popular series, so it might sell well, it might not. All in due time.

The game has to be an rpg. It's the only thing that makes since. Massive exploration and customization. This would bring in some of the hard core to I think. There are so many was to go with a open world rpg with the elements I mentioned above.
