Bioshock creator’s next project inspired by SoM’s Nemesis System, aiming for flexible narrative

Bioshock creator Ken Levine’s game studio, Irrational Games, shut down earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean he and his team aren’t working on a new project.

In a recent piece written by Levine, he reveals various ideas and mechanics that he wishes to implement in his current, yet unannounced project - including ones inspired by Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, specifically its impressively ambitious Nemesis System.

Levine states that he desires to implement a system into his current project that offers players a flexible narrative, meaningful player choices (which the game will subsequently adapt to, rather than breaking the story), and broad replayability.

Ken Levine is awesome, can't wait to see what he cooks up

Agreed, I always thought he would be fond of something like SoM's Nemesis System. Imagine what he and his team could do with something like that. Exciting stuff.

I'm gonna disagree and say that he's a talentless hack that saw a whole studio's worth of incredibly talented developers kicked to the curb because he has absolutely no idea how to manage a project.

Reading the stories of the development hell that Bioshock Infinite went through because Levine couldn't make up his mind about anything was depressing, because that whole team put in a lot of hard work in both that game and the original Bioshock, but this Levine idiot is the one who gets all the credit.

I honestly feel sorry for anyone on the team for his new game because the second he causes problems they're the ones that will have to suffer.

Yeah I'm a serious fan of his work. I look forward to seeing what he does with a smaller, more tightly-knit team.
