PlayStation TV Review | Lazy, Half-Baked, Overpriced, and Brilliant (Dealspwn)

Dealspwn: "A nice little PS4 Remote Play machine or big-screen Vita box if you've got £80-85 to spare, PlayStation TV will slot well into the second television sets of hardcore PS fans, but really this is a fairly empty machine with half-baked services and an incomplete game roster to support it. If you can forgive Sony's errors you might learn to love it, but they really should have called this PlayStation Early Access."

I wish that Sony had bundled this with a DualShock 4 and a few months of PS+ in the UK - they could have called it the "PS4 Essential Kit" or "multiroom package" or something.

Either way, after backing the OUYA I'm inclined to steer clear of anything resembling a Microconsole (plus, you know, I own a Vita), but I'm glad to see that people are enjoying PS TV after a few weeks. So many writers offered a negative review but didn't seem to live with the device for very long.

Yeah that was the key for me. I was scathing about it in the first week, but always happy to be proved wrong. The criticisms are the same, mind, it's a woefully under-supported product right now and the price is too high for what it is.

I can't recommend it at £85, especially not to newcomers, but it has slotted into my gaming life very nicely indeed and for people with a similar set up, it could be worth a punt. Ultimately, though, that's going to prove pretty subjective.

I don't get it. He says he's enjoying remote play, but it's overpriced ($70-80 US) for that purpose.

As opposed to what?
A Vita? ($200)
a Sony smartphone ($200)
a 2nd PS4? ($400)
a high-end Sony TV? $$$$

FuzzyPixels2025d ago

If PS TV were £45 (roughly $70) in the UK it'd be excellent value.

But it isn't.

It's £85 (roughly $135).

I get your point, but if you want the remote play option, it's still less expensive than a Vita or Sony phone, isn't it?

FuzzyPixels2025d ago

It is indeed. Which is why it gets called a "nice little Remote Play machine". It's worth noting, though, that the smartphone, the PS4, and even the Vita itself do more than PS TV.

Does Dealspwn ever have anything positive to say about anything?

Blues Cowboy2025d ago

In fairness, even this review has plenty of positive things to say about PS TV.

FuzzyPixels2025d ago (Edited 2025d ago )

A good chunk of the review is pretty positive about PS TV. In fact, the whole thing is pretty positive about PS TV as a concept.

Just that the execution at this point in time is a bit lacking.

If you want gushingly positive, try this:

Even a year on, I still marvel at just how perfect a controller the DualShock 4 is.

Dealspwn is a notoriously pro-Nintendo/anti-Sony website, look at all their past apologies for Nintendo's terrible hardware and rehashed games, and you'll see that's the case.
They're clearly angry that the Wii U has failed, and doing all they can to tear down other systems. Junk website.

Denial is a stage schiller..

FuzzyPixels2025d ago (Edited 2025d ago )

@superchiller: You clearly have no clue. Because if you did you'd have checked the site and noted the swathes of articles slamming Nintendo for stupid decisions before and after the Wii U launched.

I know it's hard when you're a blinkered fanboy, but do try and keep up.

Is the Wii U in a better position now? Of course it is, because it's had a massive headstart. But it got slaughtered upon launch.
