Digital Foundry vs Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Digital Foundry writes:"In retrospect, 2014 has been a particularly disappointing year when it comes to properly finished game releases, with plenty of AAA releases hitting the market with show-stopping bugs. We've reached the point where original retail copies of new games have become almost useless without copious amounts of patching. Last year we praised Super Mario 3D World for bucking that trend, yet following this year's parade of unfinished software, we feel it's more important than ever to recognise the great games that get it right on day one. While Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker may not be a particularly ambitious game, Nintendo still deserves serious credit for continuing to release such finely tuned work. It's Nintendo doing what Nintendo does best."

This game simply does not drop frames - at all.

Nintendo delivers the goods. It may seem like a given that a game such as this would operate at a smooth 60fps but that's not always the case; there are plenty of puzzle/platform games available on even more powerful platforms that fail..

Was playing it just now, beautiful and very funny game. Well worth the $40 price tag.

It's a game made to put a simle in your face everytime you see it.

Nintendo deserves a lot of credit. I wish some stuff on the other consoles would go for more stylised and/or cartoony art as they'd be able to push it really far. Even a game like knack went crazy with the texture and geometry and ended up slowing itself down. Nintendo seem to be able to recognise what their machine is capable of and not pushing it in ways that Make it stress better than anyone else.

The spec might be modest but they make it seem like it isn't through clever design choices.

I was waiting for dq11 sale. Might be time to buy.

Took them forever to put it on sale on the US store! It was on sale for the EU store back on the New Years sale, and at least 1 other time. I had waited so long, I just knew the minute I dropped $60 on it, it would end up going on sale. Took longer than I thought though. I nabbed DQXI S and also DQ Builders 2 last night. Both great games!

I had 7 1/2 hours in the DQXI S demo, so I already knew I loved it. Glad my progress carried over.

Nintendo’s Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Receives Labo VR Kit Support

Only in Japan at the moment.

I will have to try this. Switch 2(whenever that comes out) should be able to display at least very good VR. I would love it to have a 4K display, but its Nintendo.
