Destiny: The Dark Below DLC Review | LzyGmrs

Apart from the entertaining Crota's End raid and new weapons and armor, the expansion experiences the same issues that caused widespread dismay in the first place. The biggest downfall still remains the price, for $19.99/£19.99 you expect more effort, but The Dark Below feels rushed and lazy like it was thrown together last week to meet a deadline, ultimately not worth the price.

Dwalls11713835d ago

I completely disagree. The expansion is awesome and packed with a ton of new content . new raid new strikes . new multiplayer maps . new weapons/armor new light level . . I do not understand this score at all ??

the_mack_attack33835d ago

You really think that justifies the $20 price tag? Crazy!

Dwalls11713835d ago

For a Game that's this fun to play yes. 20$ is pennies...

Ethereal3835d ago

I think it does by a long shot. The raid alone offers about 8 hours of play for a cold turkey run. Couple that with a few hours of new story mission AND new crucible maps. Worth far more than $20 in my opinion. Hell, some FPS campaigns are not even 8 hours in length. What baffles my mind is why everyone makes such a big deal about this while COD has been sucking people dry with four map pack expansion for $15 a pop. Pull back and look at the big picture here.

Well I personally know two people who have it, both huge fans of the game and the common complaints they both share is that it feels like another grind and too much recycled content. Granted Destiny's design is a grind, they both complained it's worse than before with exotics and with all the other great games currently out, they don't see it being worth the time this time around.

averagejoe263835d ago

Two opinions versus millions of happy players.

Dwalls11713835d ago

I get that . its definitely time consuming. . and your right its designed to be a grind like an mmo/RPG .

xDHAV0K24x3835d ago

are the ships still pretty load screens? do u still spawn at the same damn spot every patrol/strike mission?

martinezjesus19933835d ago

Do you want to start halfway across the map when you start a strike or what?

averagejoe263835d ago

Have you ever played WoW? You know what pets are? Useless creatures that follow you around just to look cool. Ships are a similar concept in destiny.

Just because all you play is call of duty and grand theft auto (and clearly don't understand loot based games like world of Warcraft, ffxiv, destiny, etc) doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

averagejoe263835d ago

Because it's "cool" to hate on Destiny.

Remember when destiny came out and sites were giving it 4/10, 5/10, etc.

It's just hatred. No way in hell destiny is near that low of a score. This is just an extension of that.

Dwalls11713835d ago

You are so right bro just like GT5 was

xDHAV0K24x3835d ago

I don't play COD. Don't insult me. That garbage AW is a Titanfall prequel. I own the game and I have every right to critique it. It's a good game just not as great as everyone claims it is. They made it seem like this was gonna be an epic campaign and to me it fell way short! the whole notion of "it gets better after x amount of hrs" is a tough sell. glad I only paid $35. To think I almost got the limited edition! Watch Dogs takes the Shame of the Year award though. In case ur thinking I hate Destiny THAT much ;)

PrinterMan3835d ago

My few biggest complaints regarding Destiny, and I have put in many hours.
1) Too many 1 hit kill weapons
2) Blade Dancer. Nearly impossible to kill while he is doing the John Travolta thing
3) Die just as easy now with 1100 armor as I did with 500. Does it actually do anything.
4) Upgrades after a point seem meaningless.
5) 8 bullets to the chest should do some damage but it usually takes a head shot with some weapons to get more than an assist.
6) 1 shot kills from a pistol from long distances
7) 1 shot kills from Sootguns from long distances

Man if they properly nerfed weapons and had better level matchmaking I'd be in heaven. Fun Fun game that needs some tightening up.

objdadon3835d ago

Couldn't agree more! The low scores that destiny got is one of the reasons I'm so glad that I don't let reviews determine my purchase! I've got 327 hours and counting on destiny and can't wait to get home from work to play more! Lol, I got brand new games still in the plastic because of destiny!

How dare you defend Destiny! Dont you see its the worst game in history and no one still plays it. . . .

joab7773835d ago

It's not an expansion. Call it whatever but b/c there is no sub fee for coined play etc., its basically a content patch.

True expansions and what is expected of them never come 3 months after release.

UKmilitia3835d ago

i just wish they would add matchmaking to all types.
story,dailys and raids.

let it be upto the players if they want to use it

dumahim3835d ago

A ton of new content? Really?

JAT3835d ago

They failed to add ANYTHING new with this 20$ piece of content.

I would've bought it if they offered ANYTHING new.

- new gun class
- new sub class
- New vehicle class

ANYTHING
and I don't mean more exotics. Game altering content is what I'm looking for.

Krypto_Joe3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

3 new crucible maps are worth $10 of that $20, I don't know about the rest. It's too bad they don't sell the maps seperately.

Vaud-Villian3835d ago

meh, ultimately each DLC is just a new raid. Anything else is temporary or just in the weekly rotation.

objdadon3835d ago

That makes no sense, it has new missions, strikes, guns, armor,an d multiplayer maps. New weapon and armor trade up system. You didn't buy it because you didn't want to for whatever reason that may be. I've heard I'll the excuses from it costing too much(which is a joke) to just not supporting dlc. The truth is if you love the game and have poured hours into it as I and many others have, then the dlc is a no brainer.

Kyosuke_Sanada3835d ago

Don't forgot the new sheets of paint because God forbid that we want new models for weapons.

daBUSHwhaka3835d ago

Way overpriced for the content you get.$3.99 would be acceptable.Expansion this is not.GTA 4 Lost and Damned,Red Dead Undead that's what gets classed as expansion dlc.

ParanoidFreak3835d ago

I'm sorry, but everything about Destiny since the Alpha release has been just one disappointment after another. Bungie missed the mark with this one and are clearly not the developers they once were. Fact.

Exies73835d ago

I found it to be pretty lackluster but if people are enjoying it, I'm happy for them. Perhaps it's just not the game for me and I'm being overly critical.

The Destiny Franchise is at its Brightest When Embracing its Darkness

Here, Twinfinite is writing that Destiny, despite being a T rated franchise, is full of dark and brooding moments that showcase the best of the team's narrative potential. They further write that, while Destiny 2 has not delivered as much as it should have on this front, Forsaken appears to be the big step that it needs to return to its greatest moments.

I miss the Summoning Pits, bring it back!

Omnigul is still the hardest Strike even with the new ones added.

Orejillz3338d ago

I never found Omnigul too hard, I welcomed the change of pace from everything that came before it.
