Sony Trademarks Mysterious New PlayStation Logo

Sony recently filed for the registration of a new and interesting logo at the Japanese Patent and Trademark office.

That's what I'm thinking, although it's going to be pretty hard to top the wireless Pulse headset.

The thing is Pulse is a PS3 headset. The rumors not long ago was that we would see a new Platinum Headset (in line with Gold and Silver models released for PS4, but with the Pulse features), so maybe that is it.

I only hope if they make a new premium headset, it's a lot more durable than the Pulse. Mine is hanging on with the cups strapped to the headband, I had also glued the cracks from the inside (I disassembled it so you can barelly see the superglue excess outside), otherwise it would had fall apart over barelly any stress (I'm very careful with it and have been so from day one as I got it kinda late, just before PS4 released, so was already aware of the potential problem all along, still it started cracking within 3 months).

Man, Sony is doing so much stuff with Playstation I don't know how they can keep up with updates and all that.

Perhaps its a logo for Sonys new 3D Audio technology for the Morpheus.

Maybe they plan on implementing that technology to future and/or current headsets?

EDIT: Now that I look at again theres nothing in this logo that looks or represents anything 3D lol. Would be cool if they did implement that new tech though. Sound is a key component for me.

First thing I thought was headset. With the PS logo in the middle though I can see it as VR as in "PS becomes the center of your world" type of vibe.

From a birds eye view looking at the top of the head you could construe this to be a VR headset. Of course if you look at the logo with a view looking at the face you would see an audio headset.

Basically it really is a matter of perspective.

If you look at it as a person from above - then it's a head with Morpheus on - the top of the logo being the visor. I like it.

Could be from above I guess, but the first rule of designing a logo is conveying a clear message, and the first thing I think when I look at that logo is headphones...

Especially as they are using a similar logo about 25% of the way down the page with almost the same headphones and they want people to use the service more on the PS4, and the current logo for their site is a bit "meh".

It doesn't look like a VR symbol to me, much more music-orientated.

Definitely a VR (Morpheus) logo, but it's easily mistakable for a headset/ chat.

I wonder if the logo has to do with a music streaming service for the Xperia phones. A Playstation music streaming service the same kind of music streaming service that Microsoft offers for their Windows phones.

Doesn't look like a VR headset to me, but it does look like regular chat/audio headsets, probably the logo for their headset models from this point on.

I think the logo has something to do with the sound technology for VR. arranged sounds is just as important as the visual to feel immersed in a game.
