Pure Nintendo: "I’m not giving Chat-A-Lot a score as it’s an app and not a game, but clearly it struggles mightily. Unless the sound quality can be improved to even adequate levels, what would be the desire to use this very limited piece of software? At $7.99 a piece, you get a program whose performance is simply awful! That’s the bottom line. Back to the drawing board."
Cubed3:
Remember Swapnote / Nintendo Letter Box? The totally rad Nintendo DS app, where users drew crass images and sent vulgar messages to each other, and was simple and had an easy to understand interface? The 3DS' Chat-A-Lot will make users miss those days when restrictions were looser and UI design didn't pander to playschool sensibilities.
Our kids seem to enjoy this program and as parents we feel pretty confident that their privacy is protected. Since micro-transactions will be possible in the future we strongly discourage saving credit card information on your children's 3DSes. While not perfect or cheap, Chat-A-Lot is bound to entertain children for a little while.
NLife:
"Want to turn your 3DS into a social device that allows you and your friends to exchange text messages and partake in voice chat while collaborating on doodles? That’s the experience that Chat-A-Lot advertises, and while it delivers in some regards, overall this simple application falls very flat."
