PS4 vs. Xbox One: One Year Later, How Do They Stack Up?

It's been one year since the launch of Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4, and the competition to dominate the latest console generation has been heated. With Microsoft fumbling out of the gate, thanks to a lackluster announcement, and Sony hitting all the right notes, how do the two consoles compare a year later?

If Xbox was at 10 million they would be boasting about how they are now in second place.

They are not. Wii U is at 7 million, Xbox is obviously still less than that. But I know they did say 'shortly' so the expectations for summer are obviously through the roof.

I had to laugh when I read your response. So want to use Japan as an example of why X1 shouldn't be in the other 60 Countries, OK

Japan sales = 36k

x 60 more Countries = almost 2.2m

So you want to add the 2.2m to the 10m MS has already received orders for and is about to ship.

That's 12.2m for a product that was $100 more expensive for 7 months and only sold to more than 13 Countries since September.

Hey buddy FYI here is a secret die hard Xbox fans should know.

M$ has one of the biggest distribution networks in the world!
They can easily out distribute Sony anytime at anyplace with their billions.

But you know what they can't.
Even if they want to, M$ knows its futile to release the Xbone beyond those countries.

The fact that they know Xbox One won't sell very well there and the TV TV TV gimmick Xbox One has won't be easy to set up there like in the NA or EU. This TV TV TV gimmick feature, like the Kinect 2.0, also drags the Xbone's chances to spread itself like the PS4 would out of the box.

That is the reason why second tier countries like Japan are one of the last frontier of Xboxone beyond them there M$ has no business.

M$ itself shot itself in the foot with always online, DRM, spy Kinect 2.0, TV TV TV, subpar and fugly hardware design and disastrous PR.

Oh God, mention the amount of countries again, as if MS's inability to organise a proper world wide launch is somehow an excuse for them underperforming.

All I heard last gen was MARKETSHARE and how Sony had lost 2 territories that they had previously dominated. Now MS has lost those same territories, is still losing in all the ones they were always losing in, and all their fanboys can throw up as a defense is this hope that the countries MS doesnt find important enough to launch in yet (tier 3 I believe they call them)will somehow even the number up.

Well good luck with that, you keep mentioning the number up countries if it helps you sleep, and by the way, I dont normally feel the need to mock MS for selling less consoles, I dont really care, but you guys with your head in the sand really ask for it.

The 100 countries vs 42 countries argument is completely irrelevant since the PlayStation 4 actually is outselling the Xbox One (PAY ATTENTION NOW) *in every country where both consoles are being sold.* I repeat, there is not one single, individual market where the Xbox One is outselling the PlayStation 4.

The Xbox One is being outsold in SA

The Xbox One is being outsold in AU

Xbox One is being outsold in the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

I hope that clears things up so some of you will stop posting the "straw man" argument.

According to NPD, VGChartz and according to Layden, the PS4 is dominating the Xbox One in terms of units sold-through to consumers. Asked if it would be accurate to say Sony has a 2:1 advantage over Xbox One in terms of units sold, the executive replied: "The math seems to look like that."

The numbers for sold through to customers should be around 7-8mil.

Btw you're comparing Microsofts future numbers cause they have yet to ship 10million units hence they used the word "soon" which could imply that the shipment was for the whole holiday season to Sony's 13.5mil shipment statement that was released at the end of September (their financial reports). One would assume that the PS4 shipment numbers have increased by at least 4mil for the holiday season, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot higher considering how fast the PS4 is selling.

I struggle to see how LBP, Infamous, Driveclub and Knack can possibly be considered to be online in terms of exclusive games in the first year when MS had Ryse, Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2, Halo MC Collection, Sunset Overdrive, D4 & Killer Instinct.

Personally on the games front, MS gets the prize this year IMO.

The XB1 has had a year head start since nearly all their 1st party studios basically ditched the XB360 to develop the XB1. On the other hand the PS3 still released games such as the last of us, mlb 13, gran turismo 6, god of war, beyond two souls etc.

And why is it that Xbox fans continually try to dismiss games like The Last Of Us: Remastered because it's available for PS3? Isn't Forza Horizon 2 available on the Xbox 360?

Please don't cherry pick and move goal posts when it comes to games being available on other Sony consoles when there are several Xb1 "Exclusives" that are available on 360 and PC. The point is that all of these games are not available on any Xbox platform.

Ryse was actually very well received by gamers, at least relative to critical reception. The Xbox user rating is 4/5 stars, the steam user rating is "very positive" with 85% buyers liking the game.

I don't want to contribute to the fanboy games listings, I just noticed Ryse's positive Steam reviews the other day and thought it was interesting that people do seem to like it.

There are so many more than that on PS4 not available on Xbone (for example the game we get for free on PS+ next month) but no point making lists really a waste of time as people just read and hear what they want to..
I think a lot of people including the media really want to see xbone 'catch up' and I can understand their 'interests'.

Both are good systems with some great exclusives on both sides like Driclveclub, Knack, Killzone SF, TLOU HD, inFamous SS, and LBP3 on PS4 and Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising, Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, Project Spark, and Halo MCC on XB1.

i think the consoles are in the countrys that will make them sales,except china and ps4 still needs to be done.

people just hve to face it even with really crazy cheap offers i dont think xb1 gonna catch up yet,there giving away all of there big games in uk for under £380 in a 5 game bundle. its stupid and desperate imo.
