GameInformer- LittleBigPlanet 3 Review: Sackboy Brought His Friends For A Fun New Adventure

GameInformer- Series creators Media Molecule have left LittleBigPlanet for greener pastures, leaving Sackboy’s fate in the hands of Sumo Digital, a long-running but somewhat undistinguished studio that has specialized in doing ports of higher-profile games. Viewing this as the beginning of the franchise’s decline is an easy narrative to latch on to, but LittleBigPlanet 3 is a solid, infectious game that delivers the basics along with some new twists.

Any one got the game can tell me if it good or not ?!
never played LBP before

Applejack3439d ago

I've been playing it and I'd say it's just as fun as the originals. Plus you get to play all the best levels from all three games so it's definitely worth checking out.

Ezz20133439d ago (Edited 3439d ago )

thank you
i will give it a try
So far i heard nothing but good things about this game
once i'm done with the huge backlog i have on both ps3/pc ..i'm buying it

NukaCola3439d ago

LBP is one of the most creative games ever made. MM designed an engine to create more than a game. The story is really the tutorial. And I tell you, if you love that childhood wonder of a platform you'll love LittleBigPlanet. The community has some of the best levels I have ever played in any game. Been an LBP fan for years. Own all 4 and cannot wait to get this one!

Bathyj3439d ago

LBP for me is the best new franchise of last gen. If youve ever dreamed of making games or are creative at all you can lose hours designing your contraptions and levels.

This new one looks like LBP turned up to 13. I was a bit disappointed at not being fully 3D but the huge amount of layers you can build on means things will get infinitely more complex and I cant wait to see what the better creators come up with.

miyamoto3439d ago (Edited 3439d ago )

I have been with the LBPs and boy this one tops them all. Its easier to make games here and recreate your favorite classic games. The new characters are basically templates for you to customize into old classic protagonists. Swoop can be Gradius, Toggle can be Samus, etc etc. The level editor is 8 times deeper (16 levels deep) than the previous LBPs allowing for deeper game levels.

Happy Create Share and Play gaming!

I recommend you watch some Live From Playstation broadcasts of the game. That's what I've been doing lately, because I just don't trust reviews anymore, and watching the game gives me a better idea of whether or not it's for me. Sometimes the reviews for a game are great, and justifiably so because it's made with quality and care and for the audience it does everything (or a lot anyway) correctly and in a fun way. But a lot of the time, the genre or style of the game just isn't for me, because I don't like certain styles of games, so despite the good reviews, I still might not enjoy it. I recognize the difference between "ME enjoying a game (or not)" and "THE GAME is good (or not)".

For instance, Far Cry 4 is doing better with the critics than LBP3, but I know from LBP1&2 that the franchise and its style suits me perfectly, I loved both previous games, and watching broadcasts of LBP3 last night, I know I'm going to love this one too. Whereas Far Cry 4, I didn't really enjoy the previous games in the franchise for whatever reason, and after watching some broadcasts last night, I'm pretty confident I'd feel the same about this one, so I'll skip it.

I liked Contrast more than Resogun. I liked Knack more than Killzone Shadow Fall. I liked Thief more than Watch Dogs. I guess I just have weird taste, eh? We all have our own opinions. I know Resogun is a much better game than Contrast... more replay value, much better production values, less buggy, etc... but I just like the style of game that Contrast is more, so for me I enjoyed playing it more.

Sketchy_Galore3439d ago

I loved Contrast and felt it suffered from the Mirror's edge treatment, in as much as it was a creative and artistically beautiful game that due to its risk taking still had a few rough edges, and got unfairly slaughtered for it in reviews. I'll always take that over a game that's simply smoothing out even more rough edges from a formula that's existed for years.

I've just played it and actually thought it was better than LBP2. The platforming options are more varied and interesting because of the new characters. I skipped LBP2, but I think I will be getting 3.

WeAreLegion3439d ago

Absolutely loving it, so far. My only gripe is the loading when you bring up and close the poppit. There will be a fix for it soon though, I'm sure. Load times, apart from that, are much better than they were in previous games.

I can't wait to play more!

ABeastNamedTariq3439d ago

I loved the other two so I'll pick this up soon. Still sad MM is done with LBP though.

An update on the LittleBigPlanet server and online services

Classic LittleBigPlanet servers are to be shut down permanently following hacks.
Sony’s drastic move comes after months of downtime for the older games.

darthv72948d ago

It was fun while it lasted. And some of the user created stuff was a blast to play with.

Snookies12948d ago

Whaaa-? That's crazy. Didn't expect it to be permanently shut down...

Teflon02948d ago

It's still up on PS4, they just shut down the PS3 end because hackers on PS3 can't be stopped and go on the game making announcements that can't be avoided without having to go back to all the old game codes and updating to remove the feature etc. It's one of those sad and garbage things where hackers ruined a good thing. I'm mostly sad about the Vita, I'm not sure if I have my music stages saved to my Vita, meaning they're gone forever if I didn't save them back to it. They were good too :(

Profchaos948d ago (Edited 948d ago )

Have to say I expected them to be permanently shut down problem would be in the underlying server architecture and possibly something like a depricated authentication protocol which has to be replaced that the PS3, PSP and vita can't support which is why they can't be securely restored on those consoles but the PS4 does support it.so lbp3 was restored on that.

Given the attackers were able to breach the server there was obviously a fear of lateral movement once inside their servers so I can't blame them for this and it makes sense despite the huge blow to the community millions of hours spent building that community.

Despite this blow I believe the millions of creations are going to be available via lbp3 and it's capability of backwards compatibility with user generated content so that's something to be thankful for still not a huge consolation to the many players who only own a older console but unfortunately that's the world we live in these games are old the older they get the more insecure the servers get which the company that make them.host them on and the more likely they need to be shut down.

Understandable they had to do this better to be safe then sorry. I just wish those right wing racists that hacked the servers and started posting homophobic slurs would get want they deserve a good few decades in prison.

Profchaos948d ago (Edited 948d ago )

That's the thing I guess if it wasn't them it would just be someone else and we would still be in this position regardless of their intent.

darthv72948d ago

What are you going on about?

Should You Start Your Kids With Retro Or Modern Games?

BY JOHN SANTINA: Should you introduce your kids to the world of gaming with retro or modern games? Super Mario Bros. or New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe? The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or Breath of the Wild? Does Timmy seem more like a Tetris kinda kid or a GTA Online kinda kid?

Being a parent is, without a doubt, the most rewarding life choice I have made on this planet (I’m equally proud of the life choices I have made on other planets, but we’ll talk about those another time). It fills me with joy to know that my legacy will live on through my scruffy little gamepad destroyers.

But, being a parent comes with responsibility. Our children need food, somewhere safe to live, not to mention lots of love, encouragement, attention, and someone to check for monsters under the bed.

Modern, retro games do not have the best controls/response a lot of the time. That's how I/we did it.

anonymousfan1360d ago

I think retro games are not as accessible... I hope to try 1 or 2 classic games with my kids though.

garos821361d ago

GTA vice city followed by Silent Hill 2. i want my kid to harden the f**k up cause the world aint a peach :)

CrimsonWing691361d ago

I’d start them with modern games. Definitely things like Mario 3, Mega Man, Contra, Castlevania, etc. whip ‘em into shape and have some appreciation for the old school.

Nacho_Z1360d ago

I'm going to fire up the SNES and try her with Mario World and Mario Kart, seems appropriate. She'd probably think it was funny beating me up on Streetfighter.

CWheatley1360d ago

Retro simply because the size of the controller is smaller and less buttons to navigate. The games don't matter as much because it's their first time experiencing video games. They don't know any better, unlike us gaming veterans 😉
