Giant Bomb previews Space Siege - In Space, No One Can Hear You Click

Brad Shoemaker writes:

''Going into a demo for Space Siege–the upcoming PC-only action RPG from Chris Taylor's studio Gas Powered Games–I didn't want to pigeonhole the game as merely "Dungeon Siege in space." But according to a rep for publisher Sega, that's a fairly accurate label, and furthermore, if you were a fan of that fantasy-themed romp, the two games purportedly share enough in common that you'll probably be into this sci-fi one, too.

You have to appreciate any role-playing game whose story can be encapsulated in about 15 seconds. Humanity got into an unfortunate interstellar tiff with a newly contacted (and apparently hostile) alien species called the Kerak. They came and blew our planet up. Now you're in the role of a hard-as-nails space soldier aboard the sole colony ship to escape Earth and hence ferry the last remnant of humanity to safety. But what's this? The aliens stole aboard the ship and are going to wipe out the last of us before we can resettle elsewhere? Time to suit up and kick some alien ass, soldier.

Western PC RPGs always seem a little daunting to me, but Space Siege knows exactly what kind of streamlined gameplay it's going for, and doesn't apologize for it. This is a top-down Diablo-style clickfest for people who like to kill aliens, and then turn the dividends of those alien deaths into better equipment to enable the more efficient killing of future aliens. There's story here, sure; you'll be interacting via comm chatter with some key personnel among the scattered human survivors. But your primary occupation will be clicking on and thus obliterating the hordes of Kerak overrunning the ship.''

looks like they removed Prey, bought it for £1.35 i think but looks like they swapped it with Bioshock at £3.50, not bad :)

kwyjibo5231d ago (Edited 5231d ago )

85% off was a total steal for Prey, 85% is pretty much a total steal for anything though, right? I mean, a big budget game with innovative plays on gravity, for the price of an iPhone noise maker app.

It's a shame they ran out of keys though, it's ridiculous that a digital distribution store can run out of keys. I guess 2K only authorised x thousands to be sold at that price, but you can't even buy Prey at full price anymore.

Steam is pushing ahead with fantastic sales, and the publishers just can't keep up. Here's to more great deals.

Steam has always had some sick deals every weekend, but this last week has been incredible. Just bought Bioshock and Burnout for a total of $12.50. I like the idea of not having to pay a sales tax either.

kwyjibo5231d ago

No, it won't.

But whatever your next machine is, will be able to run it. Bioshock won't get any cheaper, you may as well buy it now, your Steam account will follow you forever.

haqshot5231d ago

Thanks, I had a feeling it probably wouldn't, but I am planning on getting a new comp upon graduating college in May. I'll pick it up now and play it before getting Bioshock 2 later.
