Game Debate: "So after I got back from uni today, I thought of doing some light gaming before I started on my assignments. I fired up my PS4 for some Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare with some mates and played for about an hour. Then I switched to PC for Alien: Isolation, followed by Civilization V, some Trine 2 and then Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It was after that when I realised "There isn't really anything fresh in gaming anymore". Cheesy, I know. But if you keep reading, I'll try and make my case."

Fabulous case of procrastination ...
I feel like the indie scene is what you should be looking into if you want something new. Mainstream stuff of any media gets tiring eventually. There's a lot interesting ideas floating around there, but many are not coming from powerhouse AAA studios unfortunately. I highly recommend that anyone who feels this way to start digging through the Steam Early Access or indie section and supporting the ideas you like.
I'd just be happy if they brought back Twisted Metal.
saying something isn't fresh is to you something that probably is to someone else maybe even a lot more people than not
Genres are blended now though. It's not easy to always say this game is in this genre. So more importantly than creating a new genre, developers need to create what ever their imaginations hold and the "genre" will develop around that. I agree with Sanchez. Indi scene is where it is at with new ideas. Games like Unfinished Swan and Limbo are definitely awesome ideas that come from the non-AAA studios who make AAA worthy games on such a small budget.
