We have a heated debate over the PS1 and N64. Which one is better?

98xpresent3598d ago

I say ps1. Metal gear solid was the 1st game to make me say wow

breakpad3598d ago (Edited 3598d ago )

PS1 is by far the best console from the 2 ....overhyped Supermario,ZeldaOCT and TUrok 2 (the only games that worth smthing on N64) are not enoughto buy a console ...N64 some success was only because SNES procreated hype ...PS1 crushed N64 with ease that time

TheFirstClassic3598d ago (Edited 3598d ago )

@gamepard

Dude... you are crazy if you think those were the only games worth playing on n64.

Basically it comes down to this: What sort of games did you prefer? The n64 and ps1 did different things better, not like the xbox and ps comparisons that are made today.

N64 had better local multiplayer games, First Person Shooters, action adventure games, and platformers (in my opinion, Crash and Spyro don't come close to Mario and Banjo).

Ps1 had amazing rpgs (n64 only had paper mario tbh), stealth games, and more survival horror games.

For me, the n64 wins, but I can understand if someone feels differently. I think the systems are hard to compare though.

These games will never gain mainstream success and joy to millions of gamers around the world with out the PlayStation brand.

Even a billion dollar money monster giant like M$ can not eradicate erase 20 years of PlayStation gaming culture and tradition! Never!

Guys be grateful and thankful there is the Sony PlayStation brand. It has done us more gaming goodness than any other because of their dedication to gaming.

Who would disagree with this.

The crazy thing is you named so many games, and I can think of so many more. Really just shows how many games PlayStation really has

MediEvil
Oddworld
Spyro the Dragon
Brave Fencer Musashi
Legend of Dragoon
Tactics Ogre
Breath of Fire 3, 4
Final Fantasy 8, 9
PlayStation is the undisputed King of Popularizing Phenomenal New Game Titles Every Generation!

Most of those game titles became legitimately popular on PlayStation first before Microsoft and Nintendo cut deals with 3rd party developers and publishers cut deals to steal exclusivity and put them already popular franchises to their own platform!!!
PlayStation is the real innovator.

Ridge Racer
Oddworld
WipEout
Alundra
Grandia

PlayStation library has no equal in history with countless hits.

N64
Ocarina of Time... That multi stage final boss battle with Ganondorf!!! Pure gaming genius by Shigeru-san.

Also the wow factor it had for a Zelda game transitioning from 2-D to 3-D was Nintendo's answer to Square and Sony's Final Fantasy VIII. Fantastic eras of gaming and RPGs.

I miss those days when Sony, Sega and Nintendo were firing shots with one masterpiece game after another. Sega fires up Sonic for Nintendo's Mario, Sony fires up Crash Bandicoot for Sonic and Mario 64. Sony fires up Tenchu for Sega's Shinobi. Sony fires up Crash Team Racing for Mario Kart.

Nowadays companies fire shots by money hatting, stealing exclusives by bribing, paying for parity, paying for what is the "in" thing of the moment, instead of making their own "better game" that maximizes the potential and power of their own hardware system.

I hope those days comeback!
Ocarina of Time will always be remembered as the game who stood up to Final Fantasy VII.

PSX win in quality and quantity by a huge landslide victory.

Miya, that is the most retarded pile I have ever read..... You are saying, many awesome games only made it because it was on PS? Guys, be grateful says you.... Sure... Sega and Nin could have done all these games..... I am not saying PS was not incredible... It was it shook the industry, but your lust for the
PS brand is a little too much....it was because of the awesomeness that was Nin and Sega that got Sony into it. Also, do not forget that many of the greatest games were born on Amiga and ST, a time when real innovation happened....

Sir would u please cite me in your works cited page

;-)

I agree though

there are so many good games on PS1 its ridiclous and sorta unfair lol

TheLyonKing3598d ago

Not a clue why I laughed at that but I did so bubble for being funny haha.

I was in both camps
n64 : pokemon snap, goldeneye, banjo, conkers, super smash, Mario kart, mystical ninja, mischief makers and Mario 64

Ps1: metal gear, all the ff's, hogs of war, guilty gear, ddragonball fighting game, tomb a, Croc legend of the gobo.

DarkOcelet3598d ago

Mgs 1 , Syphon Filter 1 and 2 , Crash series , Parasite Eve 1 and 2 , Vagrant Story , Chrono Cross , etc etc. Ps1 was a beast.

MasterCornholio3598d ago (Edited 3598d ago )

I really had a fantastic time with both but I liked the PS1 more due to having a much better controller and a more extensive library of games.

I dont mean to offend anyone with this but its just my opinion.

paddy953598d ago

N64:
Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time & Majora's Mask, Mario kart 64,Smash bros, GoldenEye 007, Banjoe Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Starfox 64, Wave Race64.

DoctorJones3598d ago

15 Hardest Games for the Super Nintendo

Who doesn't love a good challenge? If everything was easy, there would be no joy in getting it done. In the realm of video games, the late 1980s and 1990s were the perfect era of "get good" gaming with multiple big-named titles that put a player's skills to the test. The Super Nintendo, one of

Italy's Crackdown on Counterfeit Retro Consoles Highlights Industry Failures in Game Preservation

In a major crackdown, Italy's financial police have dismantled a ring trafficking counterfeit vintage video game consoles, highlighting a severe issue within the gaming industry. The operation underscores the industry's failure to preserve classic games, driving gamers toward illegal alternatives as legitimate options remain scarce and prohibitively expensive.

Even if they do crack down all a person needs is an Everdrive and a regular old school machine. Or modify a disc based console that has a dead laser to boot off an SD card. Some of those illegal devices look neat and some of them are just plain crap.

XiNatsuDragnel5d ago

This won't stop it unless you have a great service.

Inverno5d ago

What a stupid thing to be wasting time, money and effort. Aren't these guys literally drowning right now? Maybe y'all should focus more on that instead trying to stop people from playing old games no longer being sold.

Inverno4d ago

Pretty sure I've read and seen parts of Italy experiences/ing pretty bad floodings. Id argue that's more important than trying to prevent the sale of emulation devices.

30 Years Later, One of the Most Important Racing Games is Still Awesome and Prophetic

It's been three decades since 'Need for Speed' dropped. Here's why the 1994 version of the game is still awesome and why it changed everything.

"nobody ever really learned how to drive from a racing game."

Jann Mardenborough exists, my guy.

ApocalypseShadow21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Yeah. Besides that ridiculous statement in the article, I really didn't like the first game at all. Cars controlled like bricks. It was only until N4S 2 was when it started to feel better. N4S 3 was when I really got into the series. Hot Pursuit was the shit for home console racing. I mean, it's on my phone like right now with Duck Station and ePSXe depending on which emulator I want to use. The disc is in a drawer and the PS1 in the closet but I had to reminisce every now and then on how fun it still is.

But then it turned into the Fast and the Furious nonsense of EA copying whatever was popular at the time including the music. Also by then, I was boycotting this shitty company for their industry practices of destroying developers and buying up licenses. I mean look, Criterion was purchased to kill competition, acquire the Renderware Engine and gain the Burnout series, then tasked what's left of Criterion into making N4S. Pure bullshit move.

But I did enjoy the series and EA before they turned evil and greedy.

C-H-E-F21d ago

I was literally about to say this. And GT taught me how to drive literally when Gran Turismo came out, being able to drive my GTR to the movie premier was a whole life 360 moment. Damn near cried, shit was unreal.

Abnor_Mal20d ago

If I remember right I started with NFS: Pink Slip, but my favorite was NFS: Hot Pursuit2 on PS2. My friend and I would race for hours, the sound track was banging with Uncle Cracker song Fever For The Flavor.

CrimsonIdol20d ago

NFS: HP2 was great. Although I had an Xbox and remember feeling distinctly disappointed once I realised the PS2 store demo of it was a totally different game to the game I had purchased for Xbox.

Abnor_Mal20d ago

Yea my co worker had an Xbox and a copy of the game, but racing him was different as the courses looked way better on the Xbox than PS2. Seemed like about three races were different since the Xbox was more powerful so sectioned off parts of some tracks were fully raceable breaking through stone walls to access short cuts.

glennhkboy20d ago

For me, it was the very 1st "Road & Track Presents: The Need For Speed that got me hooked into semi-realistic racing game! Before that, most of the racing games were all very, well, game-ly, like F-Zero, Outrun, Daytona Racing, etc. The R&T Need for speed was one of the 1st game that tried to use real car spec for a more realistic (relatively speaking) driving experience. I also raced with a friend online, using 56K modem!!!

sagapo20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Yeah, my favorite game as well. Especially the coastal track was so awesome. Played it on Sega Saturn at the time.

Jingsing20d ago

Unfortunately the series drifted away from being a car enthusiast experience to a chav boy racer experience.

TheColbertinator20d ago

I did not like the early Need for Speed games at all. The series got me at Underground and I have been a fan since. Unfortunately EA sucks major eggs when it comes to consistent quality.

Carbon, Underground 1 and 2, Most Wanted and Heat are among my top racing games ever.
The Run, Payback, Undercover, Unbound and 2015 were all hot garbage to me.
