The three major console makers, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, and the largest publishers that produce games for the systems, have paired up to back The Game Awards.
Just like how VGX was supposed to replace the VGAs? The VGX show last year was a nightmare.
Well this at least has the backing of every major publisher and the three console makers so am willing to give them the benefit of thought it should be OK at least :p
I loved how Nintendo trolled with Cranky Kong...
"Keighley has rounded up some marquee advisory board members, including ... Peter Moore (COO, Electronic Arts)... Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox, Microsoft)." With Phil Spencer and his old boss and best friend Peter Moore I predict BIG WINS for Microsoft Xbox! Unless all votes are by the public there is a danger of substantial bias. How could GameTrailers not see the danger?
Mr Pumblechook: "With Phil Spencer and his old boss and best friend Peter Moore I predict BIG WINS for Microsoft Xbox! Unless all votes are by the public there is a danger of substantial bias. How could GameTrailers not see the danger?" Except there are a lot of other people there: * Reggie Fils-Aime (President and COO, Nintendo of America) * Yves Guillemot (Co-Founder and CEO, Ubisoft) * Hideo Kojima (Director, Kojima Productions) * Shawn Layden (CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America) * Peter Moore (COO, Electronic Arts), Rockstar Games, * Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox, Microsoft) * Martin Tremblay (President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) * Valve I doubt Phil Spencer and Peter Moore has that much power! Instead of your idiotic fanboy conspiracy theories, perhaps you should ask: * why isn't Activision represented? * why are only major companies represented? * why isn't there people from sort of outside the industry, but related? I guess it is early enough that things might change or has not been revealed.
I hope I don't see diaper man again. I hated that guy. P.S By Diaper man I mean McHale. He wouldn't shut up about needing diapers because the announcements were going to make him soil himself.
oh man, I remember how annoying joel was, I dont think he was the right person to co-host the show. I really wish they pick someone like Zack braff (JD from scrubs)
There's no reason in this day and age that this shouldn't be a big deal. It just needs to b done right. Having all 3 behind u is big. The problem is that there r so many shows that r much bigger. To be honest, Sony's press conference in december will probably be bigger.
Actually no, not like VGX vs the VGAs, because both of those had SpikeTV as their host. It is un-Spiked now, they've pulled out of the event. This should remove some of the more focus-test-derived irrelevant marketing BS from past years, and throw out those random celebrity appearances which were obviously there for cross-promotion and not to enhance the event at all. Will it be any good, a step in the right direction? Eh, we'll see. But it'll be about games, and that's already a step above the VGAs and VGX.
Its about time Geoff Keighly is doing something about the VGA's. Like WTF happened last year? It was so armaturely done it was pathetic and made me question my gamer status there for a minute. Glad Geoff's taking it to the developers as well as the gamers and centering around the industry that's "ours" but also apart of the larger industry. Last year host's Joel Mchale was a figure to talk down to us and our industry. He had to been why would Spike hire that guy? Geoff made it sound like hes was mostly in control and hes one of the producers but some other negative force was at work here. Horrid impromptu jokes, stupid humor, poorly written lines and musical performances, terrible execution dragged on way to long. Making our hobby look bad, immature and I think that was the plan last year and I believe Goeff even got trolled last year as well. Geoff better have this thing under control this year. He needs to know everything behind the scenes and have say in just about everything. Like I said Geoff got trolled as well as us now lets focus on a REAL Video Game Award Show.
It's like with every iteration the names gets more bland. Should the oscars be called Movie awards now.
First time I've seen large amount of agrees so unanimously at n4g in a long time.
LOL. It's telling that 14 hours later you don't have a single disagree yet have 75 agrees...That should speak volumes to how bad it was.
day before and in the same city as the PS experience , what a coincidence . guess this is where any sony game announcements will be made .
Nope those announcements will be made at PlayStation experience. You really think that major first party studios are going to announce titles at that event instead of PlayStation experience?
I could see a teaser trailer or similar being shown at the awards followed with 'see more tomorrow at the PS experience.'
@ginganinja thats my guess interviews and follow ups at the ps experience , like a after party , maybe some small expanded announcements . anything sony has big will be at the vgx . @beastModeOn you worry about your gaming products and i"ll worry about mine . i think someone needs a nap . edit : and a bottle apparently someone can't have a different opinion without it being stealth trolling , i know i don't care where sony makes its announcements as long as there are cool games , but thats just me
@bleedsoe9mm Nope. It's already known that there will be announcements at playstation experience. That's the real deal. Why do you care btw? Not like you have ps4 to begin with. Edit Lmao. All you care about is stealth trolling in ps articles kid. You think that we can't see through your BS. Heh. Who do you think you are fooling? "I think someone need a nap" Move to bed then. Chop Chop! Here's a little advice before you take nap kid. Don't think others are fools. We can see through your miserable stealth troll attempts. Sweet dreams. :)
Ideally I could see uncharted 4 gameplay trailer and demo announcement for PSexp but it would be like a christmas wish tbh I m not really fond of awards things where they all congratulate themselves for their awesomeness I'm guessing most exclusive games will get awards
Looking forward to it. Much more excited for PLAYSTATION EXPERIENCE though. :D
I'm psyched for both--PS will go all out at theirs then show a bit more here. If they have enough they could still come out and show something big at Awards as well.
Sounds much more promising. Great board, too! Wait. Musical peformances? Ugh... WHY?!?
Because they think it is the "cool" thing to do and if its televised and has to do with Awards in any way music is a must nowadays no matter if it fits the show. Truth is most every gamer would prefer straight up games with maybe a few short interviews but not much else.
Please for the love of God, let it not be those awkward 'POTATOES, POTATOES!' guys..
I hope they go back to the previous format similar to the one that Samuel L. Jackson hosted 2 years ago. And please get a host that's actually passionate about gaming, not someone that makes a mockery of the industry like last year. It was terrible. We don't need a celebrity, but if you do, get someone like Jimmy Fallon or Conan O'Brien, who actually likes gaming.
Conan isn't a gamer, but at least he's honest about it. Jimmy lies. Joel is a gamer, by the way. He was going off a script. He was livid.
Guess I'm the only one that found McHale funny for VGX. Made the show better for me.
You arent alone , he just ridiculed a show that needed it , with such content . Quite frankly , had Mchale behaved , it would still be incredible awkward and awful
Naw, for me, he was deliberately disrespectful to the gaming community. He wasn't funny to me at all.
Thank God, VGX last year was a train wreck. I'm happy they're returning to the old format. The switch kind of reminds me of E3'S switch to a low key event and back to the larger traditional style. I guess in the game world bigger is better.
Video Game Awards Dec. 5th and 6th, then the Playstation Experience Dec. 7th and 8th. Great week for gaming. Hopefully. Hopefully we'll get more than just a bunch of trailers.
Maybe it wont suck ass like last year lol
Marketing disguised as awards shows. Which will later be used as fanboy fuel. I'm not fooled.
Pretty much any award show ever is just marketing.
That's the point I was making. I would rather watch 20 minutes of video game announcement trailers than 2 hours of idiots sniffing each others farts with commercial breaks.
After the dry disasters that was the VGX, I am not going to waste my time watching Geoff give off signs of regret for choosing a host and irrelevant announcements.
After last year I figured it was just better to read who won stuff after the awards(it'll obviously be posted here), and watch any trailers(which will also be posted here). No need to waste two hours of my life for what amounts to 10 minutes of content.
I will be overly cautious about this. PS Experience will be much more exciting though.
I will be perfectly honest, I will "watch" it the same way I always do--listening in the background waiting for something good while doing something else as most of the show isn't my thing. I like the reveals though so I won't skip it entirely as long as schedule allows but only pay attention when a trailer/demo/etc occurs.
Let's hope they choose more people involved with gaming, it was a disrespect what they did with Tara Strong and Mark Hamill, for example, prioritizing pop-star not related at all with games. I still remember that awful event with tea-bagging on stage, come on, seriously? What games do you think they will choose to compete for GOTY? My guess: Bayonetta 2, Dark Souls 2, South Park: Stick of Truth, Shadow of Mordor and Far Cry 4. Maybe the new Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed too, i'm trying to think how they will think, lol.
The VGX was such a load of fail ANY improvement is welcome. After all, you cant get any lower than the bottom of the barrel can you?
Oh god it was a total flop, and the part when the guys started yelling potaatoes
Yeah, I'm still not watching. Not after what happened last year. I'll just look up the big announcements on here if there is any big announcements at all.
It could be the shittiest award show ever, Just give me a Fallout 4 announcement and all will be immediately forgiven.
Agreed. A Fallout 4 announcement would instantly make it the best gaming related show of the last ten years, regardless of anything else.
It got to be a neutral show in order for it to succeed. If suddenly every game of a particular console wins and a commercial ad for that specific console shows every 5 minutes then you know for sure there will be no integrity on the show. Stay neutral or else then fanboys will destroy the show for good.
well thats more like it..... saying that last year was a mess so it's not going to be hard to fix it
You change the name however many times but it will always have cringe worthy humor and non-related video game content.
Glad they seem to take a different direction after last years VGX awards. And to see it being coupled with the PlayStation Experience (same location and this event is on the evening before the Sony event) it is safe to say that we well see some really cool stuff during the show. I am a little bit torn when it comes to Geoff Keighley who has a real passion for games and is also an excellent journalist (see his 'Final Hours' series), but he can also be an arrogant sellout who is really cocky. I hope this will be a show that I will enjoy. After the 'The Last of Us: One Night Live' event which Keighley, Naughty Dog and Sony put together earlier this year I am willing to expect something good.
