Is gaming a culture or just a hobby?

Ben Harrison puts gaming in a Petri dish to examine the culture that grows on it and writes

"Recently during a Sociology class I’ve been taking we were discussing micro and sub cultures. You can imagine the joy on my face when my teacher brings up gaming as an example of a micro culture. I mean when I was younger gaming was just something you did every once in awhile when there was nothing else too do, and not nearly as many people played them. Now it seems to be something you do whenever and everyone is playing them."

The story is too old to be commented.
