Blizzard wants its diverse fans to feel 'equally represented' by Overwatch's heroes

Polygon: Blizzard's new team-based multiplayer shooter, Overwatch, is set in a futuristic version of Earth, but it's not so separated by time and space as StarCraft, or as fantastical as Warcraft and Diablo. The game's diverse cast of characters come in a variety of shapes and sizes, genders and non-genders, ethnicities and ages. Look at the game's 12 confirmed characters, and you'll see an eclectic bunch.

That's by design, the developer says. It wants players to feel well-represented by its cast of men and women (and robots and gorillas).

The story is too old to be commented.

Not seeing how they're being "diverse" when this game boils down to being a co-op shooter.

A great looking co-op shooter, but still just a co-op shooter.

They're talking about the cast, right? And would you ever expect the gameplay to represent fans of all genres?

All I know is, that unless they have a 30 cent McDonald's Ice Cream in there, I won't feel represented.

McDonald's have 30 cent ice cream? Where have I been living? No, more importantly, where do you live to get a price like that. Oh, and I think O
Overwatch looks like a fun shooter to play and I really like all the different characters.

So Snake Sanders is in right ?

Godmars2901529d ago

Who's that?

And giving this article a second read - when I didn't give it a first - the best I can decipher from is that the author expects to see overweight women, with small butts, in skintight suits pulling off acrobatic maneuvers.

Still not sold on the shooter idea. Still reserved in the hype this is getting.

Is there even a single-player/ story campaign to this game? if not then that means there'll be no character development, meaning the "heroes" are just aesthetics for you to run around and shoot at.

If there's no story, count me out.

360ICE1529d ago

They'll have different play styles, so it won't be all aesthetics no matter what.

My guess is that they'll try to develope the characters through a couple of amusing trailers. Like Valve did with Team Fortress 2. It is Blizzard, after all. They're kind of famous for their CGI cinematics.

Yeah, the emphasis on story is what will make me interested in this game, if it's just another run of the mill shooter then count me out.

Blizzard just just wants to make a tf2 type shooter thats an esport, Everything else is just PR spin

Muadiib1529d ago

Yeah they want to make a f2p tf2 fps! It couldn't be anymore clear!
