Halo has always been the Xbox’s most important franchise. 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved was a launch title for the original Xbox and was probably the reason Microsoft’s first console wasn’t a flop at launch. It was also an incredibly important game in the history of shooters: it showed that an FPS could work well on console thanks to the Xbox’s two thumb-sticks (with the exception of Goldeneye 007, shooters only worked on PC). Halo 2 was equally as important; it was arguably the first game which brought online multiplayer to the masses so successfully. Today’s most popular online games have Halo to thank for blazing the online trail. Quite simply, Halo changed the gaming industry.
