After 15 Years the Dreamcast is Still Alive and Well

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the SEGA Dreamcast in the US and EU. The Dreamcast scene over the past few years has seen a resurgence of sorts. With new independent games coming out and advancements in modes for the system it has helped make the Dreamcast a desirable system to have again. Who could have thought that a system that with such a short production life would still be around and kicking for so long.

It seems pretty dead to me...

Naa all you need is a PC and emulation software taadaa :P

Choose your choice of controller, DS 1,2,3,4 Xbox controller anything really.

InTheLab1537d ago

Yeah but playing on the actual console with a vmu controller trumps all that s***....

decrypt1537d ago

@inthelab

Try plugging any of the actual consoles onto your HDTV and enjoy the pixels. At least on PC you can increase.

NegativeCreep4271537d ago

It's still alive...in our hearts...*sniffle sniffle*.

PurpHerbison1537d ago (Edited 1537d ago )

Playing on the actual console.... yeah.. no. I completely understand the nostalgia reasons but games from the Dreamcast, PS1, PS2 era aged terribly visually and benefit greatly from the HD filters emulators have. THE ONE EXCEPTION... MvC2 on a MAS stick. That HAS to be on an actual Dreamcast, or nothing at all.

filchron1537d ago

you obviously have never played a Dreamcast in VGA mode..

Donnywho1537d ago

Long live the classic consoles!

sebzhd1537d ago

I vote best Dreamcast games full HD superior remastered on PS4, please Cerny and Suzuki, make believes.

xDHAV0K24x1537d ago

cool! as long as we get it on our side too ;)

Ps4andxb11537d ago

Its not 1080p and 60fps...

...it must be useless junk !

Paytaa1537d ago

Sonic Adventure was 60fps haha

g4n1537d ago (Edited 1537d ago )

Not only were some games 60FPS, but when HDTV was pretty much unheard of, the dream cast at least had the capability. I was a (WAAAAY too) early adapter of HDTV when all I had was HBO HD on DirecTV, and hook up the dream cast by VGA cable (they didn't standardize on component, let alone HDMI at the time) and BLEW away my friends with it =)

You're right about no 1080p, the standard didn't exist at the time, but it WAS 720p (or 1080i), so what does that say about the Bone in 2014???????????? Dreamcast capable graphics lol?!

Antifan1537d ago

It says that the Dreamcast was the only TRUE next-gen system we ever got.

Svinya1537d ago (Edited 1537d ago )

Sorry to rain on your parade, but Dreamcast was never in HD. 480p was what you got via VGA. Not 720 and not 1080i. It looked cleaner than 480i, though..

Ps4andxb11537d ago

It says nothing about the consoles, moreso, it describes people who think one polygon rendered at 1080p and 60fps is equal to 1 million polygons rendered at 1080p and 60fps.

I generally refer to these people as retards ;)

One of my all time favorite consoles. The amount of fighting games this system had was amazing. And it still has one of my all time favorite Resident Evils... Code Veronica, which to my knowledge has not been ported to any other system (along with Zero), which is a shame.

Concertoine1537d ago

Code veronica is on Gamecube and PS2. It has hd versions on 360 and i think ps3.
