What we want from a Mass Effect Trilogy remake

Dealspwn writes: "Despite having collected huge amounts of war assets over the preceding thirty hours, the battle for Earth felt like a massive anticlimax,.

See, the military assets we'd collected didn't even bother to show up, and the extended cut only went a small way towards easing this nagging annoyance as we basically just fought a few minor skirmishes instead of an actual war.

So here's what to do. First off, allow us to spend more time on Earth before the Reapers attack. Add some new Earth scenes/areas into Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and enlarge the start of Mass Effect 3, giving us a stake in protecting the planet, and a sense of belonging to it. The following battle will feel more impactful as a result. Then, please, beef up the battle itself, with Volus bombing squads and Elcor Tanks bringing the rain as we desperately push the offensive. Yes, it would take a lot of work, but it would be fantastic."

I want the option of using cool down weapons in ME2 and ME3...there was no need to remove them at all. Thermal clips make the game seem more like a shooter then an RPG.

Blues Cowboy1534d ago

That's a good shout actually, Foxtrot. In my heart of hearts I'd like more of ME1's RPG-style customisation to filter forwards into the later games too, but I suppose there comes a point when a remake becomes as time-consuming as literally making three entirely new games.

Roccetarius1534d ago (Edited 1534d ago )

Cooldown weapons was supposed to be in ME2 as well, but something happened during development, or it was due to a deadline for release. I can't quite remember.

-Foxtrot1534d ago (Edited 1534d ago )

Probably because they were told by EA to make it more like an action shooter....which they did.

By the time it got to Mass Effect 3 the gameplay had turned into a shadow of it's former self.

Take a look at Mass Effects gameplay then Mass Effect 3s...totally different

It's not an evolution of gameplay its changing it into something it's not.

Hopefully they've went back to cool down weapons in ME4, with what happened in the end of ME3 I'm sure they would want to revert back or give us a choice.

UnHoly_One1534d ago

They will NEVER change anything like that in the base gameplay. It just won't happen.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence, I'd like to see ME1 reworked to play like ME2 or 3, but that won't happen either.

And really, it shouldn't. It should remain the same as it was originally.

-Foxtrot1534d ago

I don't see the problem of giving people the choice of cool down weapons. They still exist they just use the thermal clips because it's apparently faster...despite being a load of bullshit which is why it messes up the gun mytho of the games universe. Totally step back for the time period.

If a thermal gun runs out of ammo it should revert back to a cool down weapon.

UnHoly_One1534d ago

I'm not saying it would be bad to give them the choice.

It just won't happen because it would take too much redesign of how the game works and to properly balance everything.

It just won't happen. The guy from Bioware even said as much, although he was talking about redesigning 1 to play like 2.

Blues Cowboy1534d ago

Though I agree with Foxtrot, I think UnHoly makes a valid point - this wouldn't be some cosmetic tweak. Changing it would require the game to be rebuilt at a fundamental mechanical level and that probably wouldn't be commercially viable.

But then again, why should we care about what's commercially viable! Why shouldn't we ask for more? At the very least, it will allow BW to gauge what approach to take in the sequels.

bggriffiths1534d ago

I'd be quite up for this on PS4, as I only played ME1 when I eventually got a 360 years after it came out. Not had time to pick up the sequels and the PS3 version of the Trilogy has always been a bit pricey. That said, I don't think I'd fork out £40 for a PS4 version when I could pick up 2+3 for about £6-8 each.

Blues Cowboy1534d ago (Edited 1534d ago )

Haha, and people wonder why Sony and MS didn't make their consoles backward compatible. :P

Still, experiencing it all in order would be awesome (as opposed to starting with ME2 and robbing yourself of the amazing twists of the firs game!).

FuzzyPixels1534d ago

I'd love some cutscenes framing that last battle. Would be tricky to work meaningful gameplay into things at this point, but I agree...fleshing out the Battle for Earth would be seriously welcome. You're right, I want to see those Volus bombing squads dammit!

Blues Cowboy1534d ago (Edited 1534d ago )

Volus bombing squads or GTFO. :P

"I'd love some cutscenes framing that last battle."

Actually, yeah. Maybe some more emotional moments or the ability to assign roles like we did in the ME2 suicide mission.

I don't know about this one.

I felt that mass effect went backwards with some things. I couldn't believe they got rid of the planet rover, Mako. So many people complained about it but it was one of the best bits for me. I loved exploring those planets and finding ore and minerals. It padded out the game nicely and gave people a chance to relax while playing.

That is my biggest bugbear. I don't know if they would be able to incorporate the Mako into all three releases, if they did, I would be very happy.

Blues Cowboy1534d ago (Edited 1534d ago )

Oh man, the Mako was sweet. Made the galaxy feel huge and expansive, as if you were really exploring it. For me, its removal was the start of a lazier complacent BioWare who preferred to take features out completely rather than taking the time and effort to improve them.

Hey Dragon Age II. Hey. Looking at you.

But hopefully that BioWare is gone - DAI looks very promising and hopefully the reorganisation following the Doctors' departure is now helping them settle back into a rhythm.

2cents1534d ago

I know right.

How could they have thought that getting rid of the one thing that every sci-fi fan would want in a space game would be a good idea!

A bloody Planet Rover to Explore unchartered Planets!!! It was a dream come true! :(

gamer91534d ago

All 3 games with DLC and better graphics / reduced load times. Keep it simple. Save resources to go towards ME4.

Blues Cowboy1534d ago

Common sense and almost certainly what will happen. But come on now, let's enjoy a bit of crazy best-case-scenario dreaming while we can!
