While the Halo The Master Chief Collection is only worth buying if you want to play Halo 2 online, it's still an impressive collection of four great games.
it's only worth buying if you want to play halo 2 online? lol, what?
If you've already played the campaigns and/or still own the other games, yes.
I wonder if this ipwas taking into account when the last of us was released
I don't agree, but it's your opinion. (dedicated servers, unified interface for all games, fully remastered halo 2 campaign with insane cinematics, vastly overhauled forge mode, all master chief games on one disk and platform, all games 60 fps, halo ce online over xbox live for the very first time, universal ranking system and controller preferences, all mp maps ever released, access to a brand new halo web series, access to the upcoming month-long halo 5 beta, etc.) I could list so much more, but I'll stop there.
That comment is just false. I own all four games. I can't play any at 1080p 60fps. Can't play online co-op for CE or 2. Can't play CE or 2 MP. Can't enjoy the updated graphics of CEA or 2A. Can't enjoy the Blur Cutscenes. Can't enjoy the obvious boost in online popularity for halo 3 and 4. Can't participate in the halo5 beta...can't get the acheivements, or the new campaign scoring mode. Can't use the gungoose or play with the new forge... Can't find the new terminals... Can't play on the PC maps... This isn't a matter of opinion, the comment is factually wrong. You leave me no choice. soon, the great journey shall begin. But when it does, the weight of your heresy will stay your feet, and you shall be left behind.
Sounds like a review wanting to leave out half of the package by pretending multiplayer doesn't exist lol. Biased because he can't play it on PS4 is my guess.
Ugh what a terrible review I'm sorry. "In the end, Halo The Master Chief Collection — like similar HD upgrades — doesn’t offer enough for fans of these games’ single-player modes to make this worthwhile, even if these game do still kick some serious alien butt. " Eh??? What on earth are you on about lol. I'm sorry but I give this review a 2/10.
Septic Just because a review doesn't share the same opinions as you it's terrible? Grow up.
Quite possibly the worst review i have ever read, scratch that, your Driveclub 3/10 review(because you didn't like breaking into corners) was the worst review i have ever read. Your agenda is quite clear for everyone to see, all you want is hits for your site by posting controversial reviews of games, i just have to point to Driveclub and The Last of Us for prime examples. This practice of authors publishing their own stories on N4G needs to stop, especially when doing so for the sole purpose of getting hits, journalistic integrity is in the gutter at the moment. Website down voted. @Septic above Well Said.
@Unreal Just because it says review it's level-headed? Learn to analyse.
No and no.
Well, I'm only buying the collection for Halo 2. Lucky me! Halo 2 reviewed alone would be a 9/10 or 10/10 for most gamers... You're getting 3 additional 9/10 games with it. 8.5 is a thoughtless score. My review of this review... 3/10.. It's not worth reading unless you're trying to teach people how to NOT score a game.
I have a strange feeling Sony has handed the paychecks to some sites. How in the world The Last Of Us remaster scored that high and this stays at 87 on metacritic?
Dude, it's early. The game hasn't even launched yet. 87 is a high score for an average anyway. After all the reviews are in, I have a feeling this game will be sitting at a 95-97. People who publish reviews this early put little effort into it. It's like they have their minds made up before they play. Reviews this early will be from people who absolutely love it and no way its not a 10/10 or people who like to generate clicks and buzz by giving a game 6-8/10. Problem is, 8/10 would be acceptable and welcomed for a lot of games... But, people have already played games like Halo and TLOU so WE KNOW that the game should be rated higher than what this reviewer is publishing. Anyways, it's the author's opinion. Don't take it too seriously because this author's opinion isn't going to reflect the mass majority.. It's just their attempt at provoking an internet flame war and generating hits. Like I said, 8.5 is high for most games... But these games have already been reviewed multiple times and have averaged mostly 9/10s... So, as a reader and having already played these Halo titles multiple times, I'm wondering to myself: How can a previously great game (90+ average) get a graphical update WITH VERY LITTLE other changes, and throw in 3 additional highly reviewed full retail games on top of it, and be rated lower than their original averages? In my mind, it can't. 343 kept the original games in tact and beefed up the graphics. The author is a failure. I'm not sure Sony would pay "no-name" sites to review this game poorly. Now, if IGN or someone "big name" says the game suck, then point the finger at Sony. When some "no-name" says the games an 8.5 and not worth buying, it's because he's an ass and not because Sony cut him a check. Bringing up TLOU was off topic and unnecessary... But, just so we're clear, TLOU is a great game and worthy of it's high praise too.
Actually, I said the same thing about The Last Of Us, that it wasn't worth getting if you already played it. And I said it also about Sleeping Dogs as well.
Well, I disagree with you in all three cases. Better graphics and performance do make them worth getting again for many people. Not to mention any of the other enhancements or extra content added in.
Aviator189, I mention all that stuff, and even say above that it's an "impressive collection." But from a practical point of view, which is a review should be, if you've already played these games, there's no point in spending your hard-earned money on this.
Like I said, your review, your opinion, your score. I just don't agree that it's only worth buying if you want to play Halo 2 online.
I feel that you are missing the point as to why most people are so excited for this game. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it! :)
i played Halo CC 11 years ago, Halo 2 almost 10 years ago, Halo 3 in seven years ago and Halo 4 two years ago. That is a very very long time and because of that, I do see a reason to buy the collection as aviator189 pointed above. On another note, it is not your job to tell me what I should and should not do with my money. Your job is to objectively review a game, tell me what is good, bad and average with the game and also point how much value I would be getting.
I to played all those Halo games as you did during the same time period and like everyone else I to purchased each of those titles which was a lot of money. The MCC at $50 Is a great get if your a Halo fan or have never played them but it's not for me and had I went next gen with the X1 I wouldn't pay to play those again. Now another note..... I don't understand why some of you have issue with this persons opinion of this game he is entitled to it as you are your opinion.
I easily spent over a 1000 hours in these games in the past and disagree with the notion that "if you've already played these games, there's no point in spending your hard-earned money on this." just due to how hugely integrated this collection is. Being able to jump from one Halo game to another seamlessly with all of them running at 60fps alone is worth more than the $60 I paid for it.
Go have another beer....
Yeah being able to replay these classic MP games with an alive community in a new way shared between each game with a new and improved forge as well as Halo 1 having online MP on consoles for the first time ever is not a reason to get this game. You like most people here especially PS4 fanboys that are so ignorant to this title, do not understand what is great about this collection, and the fact all these sites are reviewing when MP does not work is just blasphemy
This reviewer clearly took a sizable hit from his bong before typing up this review. I don't even own an Xbox One and the PS4 is currently my system of choice and even I see that.
This is certainly a 10/10 for me. All four main titles with updated graphics, sound, music, and more for only $60???? How could anyone say no to that? Not to mention it's been years for me since I last played a halo game with 3 being the nose recent one back in 07. So this set is like the ultimate gift to me. Plus I never played 2 and 4 so those will be all new to me. But the first one is the most special to me. Lots of memories staying up to 5am playing that. Can't wait to be 19 again. Thanks Microsoft. You've made this 32 year old one happy gamer.
Maybe it's me, but I don't pay attention to the reviews of sites I've never heard of ever. That goes for any game on any platform.
"In the end, Halo The Master Chief Collection — like similar HD upgrades — doesn’t offer enough for fans of these games’ single-player modes to make this worthwhile, even if these game do still kick some serious alien butt." Huh?
For value for money this game has to be a 10/10! This game alone will probably lead me to buying an xbox one in a few years time. I've played and loved most of the Halo games splitscreen but never actually owned any of them. It's pretty much made for me :)
"This review pretty much describes my feelings about this game. I definitely thought it was excellent. But I really don’t think it deserves the amount of praise it constantly receives."
Logical inconsistencies abound.
