Graphics Parity? Not With the PS4/Xbox One Versions of WWE 2K15

Graphics parity, it is a term that many gamers have come to dislike. The fact that Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be set in at 900p resolution and 30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One — when the PS4 can handle 1080p and 60 fps, has ruffled some feathers. Those who take issue with it feel cheated; that the PS4 version (their version) of the game is being held back due to the limitations, of its slightly less powerful competitor. Some have even declared a boycott of the game because of it.

Now some fans are upset that the same thing is happening with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of WWE 2K15.

I've updated my post to hopefully make it a little clearer for those who are confused.

The whole point of this post was to prove to those, who were under the impression that the PS4 version of 2K15 had been dumbed down, that their assumption was false.

There is no graphics parity between the two, both were able to achieve identical resolution without one being compromised.

It is only referred to as "Graphics parity", when there is compromise in order to achieve similarity.

AC Unity - 900p 30fps

This guy says PS4 could do 1080p @ 60 like it's a definite fact.

So now people actually believe that the PS4 is almost THREE TIMES as powerful as the XB1??

bleedsoe9mm1537d ago

i love how people think they know more about these machines than the people developing software for them

GameNameFame1537d ago

It's 40 to 50 percent more powerful. Lol no one said three times. Stop making shit up as if many people actually said they believed it.

LoydX-mas1537d ago

Please name ONE PS4 exclusive game that actually shows a 40-50% more power. Just one.

mp12891537d ago (Edited 1537d ago )

I dont know where the 3X came from , but plenty of games run at 720/900p on xbox one vs 1080p on ps4. Point being it doesnt need to be 3X more powerful to have higher resolution.

GameNameFame1537d ago

Any game with 900p to 1080 or 720p to1080p or 30 fps to 60fps.

Also game like driveclub is a good example of what can't be done on x1

EeJLP-1537d ago (Edited 1537d ago )

@NameGame & mp

Reading comprehension and maths...

1600 x 900 x 30
1440000px x 30fps

1920 x 1080 x 60
2073600px x 60fps

124416000 / 43200000 =
2.88x more pixels per sec

aka "almost THREE TIMES"

I'm not supporting anything anyone said here, just showing that UnHoly_One's statement wasn't that difficult to understand.

Other - IGN's native resolution and frame rate comparison chart:

CoD:Ghosts, Golf Club, MGSV: Ground Zeroes, and PES 2015 being 720p vs 1080p at the same frame rate are all a 2.25x resolution advantage to the PS4. So there's 4 examples, Loyd.

2073600 / 921600 = 2.25

Also Warframe, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, and Murdered: Soul Suspect have double the frame rate 30fps vs 60fps on PS4, so that's a 2x advantage to the PS4.. or 7 examples.

In addition, the cutscenes in Tomb Raider drop to 900p30 while the PS4 version maintains 1080p60, which is 2.88x advantage.

EeJLP-1537d ago (Edited 1537d ago )

Too late to edit my above reply.. I know they're not exclusives running 40-50% more power like you asked for, because you could call those opinions. But I did post facts, which are direct comparisons of the same games (multiplats) running 200-288% of the XB1 baseline on PS4 (resolution and framerate-wise).

GameNameFame1537d ago

Pixel per sec is not same as 3 times as strong. 10 percent stronger hardware can push more than 10 percent more pixel per second.

I do understand where this is coming though.

No one still said 3 times except this xbox fan here.

kingfetish171537d ago

Here's the XB1 vs PS4 resolution & fps comparison chart on IGN's wiki:

Pretty lopsided chart in favor of the PS4...

mp12891536d ago (Edited 1536d ago )

@EeJLP-"Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler" -AE

Anybody using common sense can see that taking the area of the resolution times every frame does not equate to hardware power.

I mean whats your equation? Area x F/S = POWER (in watts?).

The math is not that simple, not when it is applied and tested using the hardware specifications of each system. There's more variables.

It is also incorrect to say the PS4 is 50% more powerful than the xbox one. The article that shows the analysis of both consoles specifically said the 'memory of the PS4 is 50% faster'. This was enough for me to buy the ps4 which launched at $100 cheaper than the xbox one, but I was not expecting 3X better performance.

As to the actual topic of this article, I am happy both consoles will run this game at 1080p.

EeJLP-1536d ago (Edited 1536d ago )

Read the full article, both pages.

"In short, the PS4’s GPU is — on paper — 50% more powerful than the Xbox One."

Since then Microsoft apparently freed up ~10% for games that don't use Kinect.. that leaves the PS4 with a ~40% more powerful GPU, not '50% faster memory' as you stated.

The PS4 has 5500mhz GDDR5 RAM.
The XB1 has 2133mhz DDR3 RAM.
PS4 has 257.85% of the XB1 baseline mhz. ~2.5x
(157.85% more)

From the article:
"This leads to an absolutely massive bandwidth advantage in favor of the PS4 — the PS4’s CPU and GPU will have 176GB/sec of bandwidth to system RAM, while the Xbox One will have just 68.3GB/sec."

PS4 has 257.69% of XB1's baseline bandwidth. ~2.5x
(157.69% more)

The XB1 does have 32MB of SRAM.. how much that effects the real world bandwidth difference, I don't know. I know, and the article says that SRAM is fast, but how just 32MB of it makes a difference compared to the ~5GB of relatively slow DDR3 RAM that's available.. that I don't know.

I'm just doing some simple division of two specs while watching tv/movies. My only point here is to contradict your statement about it being the memory that is 50% faster. All the sources I've read show a 40%+ GPU advantage and potentially 150%+ memory advantage for the PS4.

And just to point out again, I'm not claiming pixels per seconds is equal to the power advantage. I was only laying out where Unholy got the 3x from in his post.

You can also read about the CPU differences in the article. XB1 boosted their CPU performance by 9-10%, but it also states that this would have very little effect on gaming performance and that their CPU may actually be a disadvantage, because developers only have access to 6 of the 8 cores. The amount of cores the PS4 developers have access to is unknown in the article. If it's more than 6, then the PS4 would seem to then have the CPU advantage also, but if it's the same 6/8, then the XB1 has a slight advantage, but in an area that is "very unlikely" to make a difference in gaming performance.

VealParmHero1536d ago

Seriously, we know the ps4 has more power, but these writers act as if they know something the devs don't. Rolls eyes

mp12891536d ago

@EeJLP, this last post you made makes much more sense. Its good we clarified resolution advantage is not the same as performance advantage.Either way, PS4 has the edge.

1080/60 might be doable hell maybe not, but they surely could of gotten it to 1080/30 at least!

shivvy241536d ago

I remember when ac4 launched, both ran at 900/30fps then the ps4 got the 1080p patch, but yeah agree with you

OB1Biker1536d ago

Dont mistake 'people' with the usual (purposely?) bad journalism like in this article

NoDucks1536d ago

Yeah I don't think they get it, PS4 isn't that powerful. It's quite weak, and most PCs can't even run Unity 1080p60Fps

Software_Lover1537d ago

............ Since when could the ps4 handle 1080p/60 fps for this game? People are so delusional.

TheJacksonRGN1537d ago

Did you even read the article properly? 2K themselves says both versions run at 1080p. Both, that means Xbox One and PS4.

nerdman671537d ago

He's talking about AC Unity

dragon821537d ago

People are basing it off the fact that Black Flag was 1080p on PS4. They assume that automatically means that Unity can too. The fact is that we really have no idea what is going on in Unity that might use more resources compared to Black Flag.

Ginesis1537d ago

Why does it seem like it's soo hard to believe that the PS4 just can't handle every game at 1080p/60 or even 1080p/30? There will be games that it will not be able to handle at those settings.

S/N: Neither one of these consoles are very tech heavy. Im not a PC guy but if 1080p/60 is what you want across every game you play then maybe it time you drop the consoles and start investing in a good PC.

I think that most people here have a PC or at the very least a device (eg. smart phone, PS3, Xbox360, PS4, XB1 ... etc) with a web browser.

As for playing games on a console/device/PC well that is a personal preference. Not everyone who has a PC has what you or even I would classify as a "Good PC".

What PS4 owners are really peeved about is most games on the PS4 will output at the very least 1080p @ 30fps with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (rarely said but very important) so why would a what could be considered a AAA game be brought out at 900p?
