Why does it all go wrong?

PlayStation 4 firmware 2.0 launched yesterday and on the face of things it's pretty fantastic. You can now customise your user interface with themes and you can use a USB stick to add music to your system via the new USB music player. Then there's the big feature, Share Play, which allows another player to take control of your game or play along with you from their system, even if they don't own the game. But there's an issue and unfortunately when it comes to Sony releasing firmware, it's not for the first time.

The story is too old to be commented.

"From our investigations so far, it appears the issues with PS4 rest mode are cause by changing the power settings on the settings menu. If you have upgraded to firmware 2.0 we would suggest not changing any settings for now."

I'm not having this issue at all. I've changed the settings and still nothing, the PS4 opens and closes as it always does.

yeah same here. A man isn't denying it's happening to some perhaps but this may just be fud being spread by fanboys. All a man knows is that he hasn't had any problems with 2.0 other than he can't seem to connect his Youtube account. It just keeps saying that there's an error communicating with the server when he enters his google info despite everything else working online including the app other than connecting the accounts.

I experienced the issue but the actual solution is a power cycle. And then it never happened again. Turn it off and back on. Life is good.

Yeah, I can also testify to the fact that my PS4 wouldn't come out of standby mode, not by pressing the home button, nor by pressing the power button on the console itself. I've also had to change the hdmi cable to another slot on my TV because I only got picture without sound right after updating. But a hard reset has solved the issue it seems.

Happend to me sometimes when I leave it on and after a few minutes the console goes on rest mode. But its easily sorted for me as I just hold the power button for a few seconds. Then it turns off and its not problem to switch it on afterwadrs.
Loving my theme

Jaqen_Hghar1476d ago

that spiral theme has a hoppin soundtrack lol a man likes how lively his menu is with it

Orbilator1476d ago

No probe here either, I'm always in rest mode

Cra2yey31476d ago

I just never have it on standby at all.

MonsterChef1476d ago

I have it on standby/rest mode and it got stuck there but I unplugged it and never put that option again, no problems since I'm sure they'll update it

Mister_G1476d ago

Had the same problem, stuck in rest mode with flashing orange light. Couldn't eject the disk, couldn't turn it on with DS4 or button on PS4.

Unplugged from wall, now okay.

Looking on the 'net people say a flashing orange light means it's uploading games saves, but my cloud save area was full so there wasn't space to upload, so maybe it doesn't handle that properly at the moment?

I'm still using rest mode because I want it to download updates etc. automatically.

Dannycr1476d ago (Edited 1476d ago )

It doesn't necessarily mean that it is uploading. The uploading happens at the designated time in the System's menu (mine I think it's set at 4am) It could be downloading updates, but I use the stand by feature a lot, and most of the time, it doesn't download or upload anything, it's just in stand by in case you want to remote in or download from cell app.

This happened to me once but nothing bad happened

Silly gameAr1476d ago

Well, seems like millions of people like it just fine. You and your buddies can come into every article on N4G talking about how "bad" PSN is, but there's people who use it daily and don't have any of these problems that always seem to pop up in these articles.

A select few having a problem shouldn't spawn 4 or 5 of these articles everyday that's filled with nothing but comments like yours. It's a broken record. Give that crap a rest.

Orbilator1476d ago

Well said, share played all day yesterday with not one issue, I was Scotland and my pal was Illinois, sorry if spelling bad, we had a great time.

MasterCornholio1476d ago

I only had issues the day the update came out but after that nothing.

@JustRealClueless - This has nothing to do with PSN.
