Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Didn’t Have a Choice, but to be Different

With just a week left until the launch of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and all of the bad publicity the last Call of Duty got from the release of the game, Advanced Warfare had one choice, and one choice only: Be Different. What was regarded as one of the worst games in the series, right up there (or should we say down there) with Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops, Call of Duty Ghosts fell apart under the pressure that it was challenged with to find success critically and capitalize on both a former and next generation set of consoles. After a $1 Billion Dollar payday upon release, however, things went nothing but grim from there. Ghosts not only received some of the lowest review scores in the series history, it dropped 19% in sales versus the same year-to-year comparison again Black Ops II, but on top of that has ravaged per-order sales of Advanced Warfare.

that's because basically it is.. lets be real.. other than Titanfall's double jump and boost strafing, what REALLY is different about CoD this year... i will say the little gadgets are cool, but dude, it really AINT a new and improved CoD.. slightly new movement options.. but because IGN and all the other CoD fanboy sites are hyping this to hell and back, folks are thinking they're getting some "fresh and innovative"... i have to hand to Activision, they could sell ice to an eskimo. Their PR and marketing teams are brilliant.

Well, the game has been in development somewhat at the same time as Titanfall, so you really can't call it a copycat.

The only thing happened is that Titanfall came out first. Live. Die. Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow came out shortly afterwards.

This is the thing I don't understand. Does it really need to be different? IMO the games have gotten worse bc if anything the gun play and maps simple get wrose, and certain things have been dumbed down for DLC. If MW2 had the exact load outs/settings as BO2 for example, it would be the better game. The game doesn't really need to be different. The devs just need to stop being stupid/greedy/get their heads out their asses and figure it out. For awhile there it seemed as if every time Treyarch would add new s***, IW would be stuck in the past (with their outdated game design). Ghost WAS my go to game hoping the IW/Treyarch s*** would match up (obviously complete opposite, but honestly thats not because it was "different/the same"). AW they are trying some different things, we'll see how it works out.

Well after Ghosts, it won't take all that much to improve Call of Duty this year. Being honest, I'm not expecting all that much from this one, it's Treyarch's one next year that I have high expectations of as they've proven themselves in their last 3 games.

Agree I just wish there was a World at War game again I really loved it. Hated it at first because we were still in the WW2 era of gaming now that its all MW era it would be refreshing to go back to WW2.

Actually, I laugh at how many people hate on these games. If someone doesn't like it, don't buy it. I have enjoyed all of them since the first. The stories vary each time, but I look at it the same as John Grisham novels. They are all kind of the same ideas. But I'm sure I will enjoy and play the new one as well.

From what I have seen the "new addition" to the game is not all that significant. The new gadgets are cool but it looks like this game was heavily influenced by Titanfall which as a person that only owns a PS4 is great as until we get Titanfall 2 and unless I pick up an Xbone this is as close as I will get to playing Titanfall. Now the only question is do I get this at launch or sit back and watch for a while.

I always ask my self what really the gamers want to see in the CoD franchise, all gamers ask for something different but what exactly?

For me CoD is about that a fast paced FPS with a plot that get's me in and thats it and when i need something different i just search for other games and companies...

But that's just me...

What they need to do is add more players in online matches. It doesn't have to be 32 v 32, 16 v 16 would be ok and some destructable environments

What they need is more gameplay options, like Battlefield.

You can play just air maps. Just vehicle maps. Just infantry maps.

Battlefield 3 even had that 'Close Quarters' expansion which was basically like a Battlefield version of Call of Duty.

So they need to keep the fast paced twitch shooter as the main part of the game. That's it's identity. But they need to add in some of these other things.

Also they need to quit getting rid of great modes. The bomb mode shouldn't be 1 death only.

Destructible environments would be great. At least this version will have some more verticality to it, rather then just being a flat game where you might find a sniper a story or two above you.

Im tired of people saying COD is exactly the same every year (which isn't always true) when other franchises get no similar criticism. How similar is each God of War game? What changed between a few new tricks and new story from GOW 1-3? But people myself included adore those games. What about Halo? How has Halo's gameplay changed besides minor tweaks? And don't say that it adds revolutionary new modes because COD adds new modes all the time. What about Uncharted? What has Uncharted changed besides graphics every year. Answer is nothing. Now I love COD, GOW, Halo, and Uncharted but just picking on COD for being similar every year is hypocritical.

I see what you mean and i dont think COD deserves the amount of hate it gets either... BUT people do not say that about the other games you listed because those games (God of War, Uncharted, Halo) dont have a new release EVERY YEAR like Call of Duty does.

I think what people hate on it for is very much real.

But the vitriol of how they announce it is over the top.

The complaints are real, but the loudest complainers are usually people who don't buy the game.

But then again if they'd listen to what millions of people are screaming, and at some point most of those loud complainers were a Call of Duty game owner, perhaps they wouldn't have so much hate for CoD.

Ghosts...really, really sucked.

I remember getting sick of Call of Duty after the 2nd one on the 360. They revamped it, found a good formula, and from World at War on, they had me again.

This one looks like they have reformulated it a bit, and I suspect it should revitalize the franchise. Will it take it to new heights? Probably not. But it'll probably stop the bleeding, at least for a while.

But it wouldn't surprise me to see it sell less because of how bad Ghosts was. It might take until the 2015 version, if Advanced Warfare is good, to see an uptrend. At least that's my opinion.
