Studio Behind “One Upon Light” Explains Why the Game is PS4-Exclusive

While there’s a lot of indie games coming out to Sony’s PlayStation 4, it’s mostly dominated by Western developers housed in the US. The team behind One Upon Light – Singapore University Technology and Design (SUTD) Game Lab — is looking to break that trend by being the first-ever studio in Singapore (and in South East Asia, if I’m not mistaken) to launch a PS4 game.

"Best partner".

This is usually the case. It always comes down to business, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Singapore just got the Xbox One in September. It wouldn't make any sense to sell it on that platform if they marketed to the eastern markets.

Makes sense to me. If you have a good relationship with one of the platform holders, why not work with them? Simple logic really.

Games like these have a better chance of selling well on a Playstation platform. Simply Add the bigger install base and the diverse group of gamers that own the console and the exposure is off to a great start.

I like it. The indies are really showing off some unique n creative game play.

cool stuff. diversity is the way to go. not the same old crap. On that note, Morpheus FTW

Another indi...

Hell, the ps4 gets only indi news, ftw.

a game is a game and if its a good game to hold me off till the triple a games come im happy , and mind u , I can pay 5$ for a indie game and have days or months of enjoyment while ill pay 65$ for a game and be done in a day and not enjoy it.

PS4 only gets indie news… right…. Yet it has (and continues to get) the most AAA games - as well as indie games - on any next-gen console. It's what happens when you're reasonable about your policies and make a platform that developers consider the by and large best console to make games for… because it actually is a laser-focused gaming console, not a decidedly multimedia hub with gaming features.

Coming from a month where more than 3 high-profile AAA games just released and with LBP3 in November and Guilty Gear Xrd in December, it's a reallll problem man. Real.

Rimeskeem3893d ago

honestly,

Indie games are the only games making big changes to gamihg genres.

colonel1793893d ago

Yeah, Indies are great when they push the boundaries. When they make iPhone games and call them revolutionary, that's where there's a problem.

NGB | One Upon Light Review

NGB Wrote: "Whilst One Upon Light is a good puzzle game, it really can frustrate you at the best of times. It will entertain, but that entertainment will only last for a few hours at most. Whether you will find the will to go back remains to be seen. What really disappointed me was the lack of music in the game, which I mentioned earlier in my review. If there is a sequel, I urge the developers to reach and out and innovate a bit more in order to add to the enjoyment and overall experience. Whilst the developers have done a good job with the unique visuals and there is enjoyment to had, One Upon Light disappointed me overall."
