Eiji Aonuma Wants Mario Kart 8’s Master Cycle in Upcoming Zelda Games

The first batch of Mario Kart 8 DLC is arriving in November, and the fact that Link has been included as a playable character adds to the hype. To make it even better, the Master Cycle has been unveiled as a Kart, and it’s made such an impression that Eiji Aonuma himself would like to see it in future Zelda games. Yup, you read right.

This reminds me of the whole "Valley of the Flood" rumor. Have to admit, a steampunk type of zelda would be really cool imo. It doesn't have to totally steampunk, but adding steampunk type of elements would be an interesting change for the series.

Anything is possible with the Zelda series.

People keep acting like it is a pure fantasy series but over the years the series has had robots and advanced technology. (Much like Final Fantasy)

In SS,
for example,
the Lightening Dragon's zone in the Desert showed that in the past of Hyrule there was lots of technology.

anything is possible.
That's why the arrow in the WiiU Zelda Premier did not surprise me as much as others.

^That said^ -
you are right, Steam Punk with a Nintendo twist could go so right.

I don't really like the idea of a steam punk style zelda, or motor vehicles and any of the kind. I like the fact that it sticks with horses and swords and bows and more ancient types of technology. That's what makes zelda zelda.

I don't really think so. I think the world, the lore and the gameplay is what makes Zelda Zelda, but I believe some other areas could be explored in an interesting way.

Maybe a small alternate universe type section of an entry could have a section that might use steampunk type technology. But a full game? Please no.

It sounds like a cool idea. Instead of travelling through time or a dark world, Link travels to parallel universes to meet with their own versions (zelda, link, etc) of those particular universes. A Steam Punk universe, a futuristic universe, Western universe, feudal japan universe, Mushroom kingdom version of Hyrule, etc

Well, Zelda has had a train. I'm sure if they manage to make it fun people will get over it even if it's jarring.

wonderfulmonkeyman1879d ago

Zelda is set in far less modern times; trains running on steam, coal, and magic are about as modern as Zelda can get without losing something that helps to identify the series.

Going futuristic would be going too far; I think leaving it at trains is as close as we ever need to get to a "modern-style" Zelda.
Especially if the next Zelda does open world the right way and makes good use of that new magic technology we saw at play with his special new arrows...

Why not? After all, motorcycles would mean more open and explorable worlds.
