DriveClub could be compared to the Audi Quattro Concept - a modern and loving tribute to the past. Just like a blue Audi RS5 - it is still an engineering feat, but feels a bit too safe and too boring (and a terrible color taste).
Somewhere during the long process of development, DriveClub lost a piece of its soul. If it had been a launch title its beginner friendly and well known superficiality might have been less of a problem. But with the delay, the demands and expectations of the game grew, which did not relate solely to graphical improvements. So the expectations of the players is perhaps the factor on which DriveClub could ultimately fail. It may look like a next generation racing game but it feels like a journey into the past.
