PlayStation TV Review - The Games Cabin

"The main function of the PlayStation TV is to provide a cheaper way to game; you can play PS Vita games, though not all are compatible and it'll act as a streaming device for your PS4 games as well as being able to stream PS3, PS2 and PSOne games further down the line via PlayStation Now.

So, the question is - is it any good?"

Damn those stupid disagrees for nothing, if MinaBossT wants to get it, why would people disagree with that, sh#t on these no lifers.

You're right. A couple of days ago I answered to some some guy that pretended that Shadow of Mordor is 1080p on X1. I asked him to give me the source that he has and also providing the source (i.e. Digital Foundry) according to which the game is 900p with all the patches installed.

For the above post I received 20 disagrees in 5 minutes.

So for asking the source and posting a fact I received a lot of disagrees.

Something should be changed to the voting system.

gman_moose1883d ago

That's the problem with an anonymous voting system on every comment. You can't tell who the clowns are.

God forbid someone comments that they want to buy something right?

killacal131883d ago

Thant's what I am saying man, you can't wish to buy something or say that you will buy it, I'm guessing it is just people full on envy.

nunley331883d ago (Edited 1883d ago )

Enjoy, i was wanting one but i never bought a vita but have many digital titles though. Hey by the time it reaches you it'll run better with some patches hopefully.

Eonjay1884d ago

So far its okay. There are definitely some improvements in order. First, it needs better support for vita games and apps. Thats the main and basic issue. Also, the Remote play is very temperamental when on Wifi. Latency is apparent. Playing PSP games is awesome in full screen and Killzone Mercenary looks Amazing. Needs more app support ASAP. Youtube works through browser. Netflix needs to be updated. Music Unlimited seems to require a premium subscription. Can play MP3 and video files. Very poor multi account support. PSNow works flawlessly.

psvitamanfan1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

Psp games are definitely better on tv! I remeber getting the cables for the psp2000 and using it exclusively as a home console for a long while.

Also,,uncharted golden abyss needs patching for pstv, im positive people would enjoy it more without the awkward touch and move controls.

morganfell1884d ago

I picked mine up this morning at BestBuy and have been playing Killzone Mercenaries like mad. Really digging this thing. I am still amazed at how small it is. Running it with a DS4 and having a blast. And I also would love to see Golden Abyss on this. I just ran my first Now game on it and its shocking to see what this little thing can do.

psvitamanfan1884d ago

@morganfell - glad that you're enjoying it! It really is a bargain for what it is. I didn't get the chance to try out PSNow whilst reviewing it and had no idea it would be available today :(

Just out of interest, what are the prices like on PSNow, now? Still absurd or have they been made a little more reasonable?

morganfell1884d ago

Everyone has their own definition od absurd. Remember that most people do not complete even half a game. Thos that do complete games, most of them only fully complete a small portion of the games they own. That is one of the reasons the 4 hour price has been high. 4 hours is the most that the majority of people will play an 8 hour game that they own.

But an example of the current Now would be Ratchet and Clank Full Frontal Assault, a game I own on PS3 and Vita and is a blast to play. To rent it is $1.99 for 4 hours and $5.99 for 7 days. That is a 3rd Party exclusive. Saints Row IV, a 3rd party Multiplat is $2.99 for 4 hours and $5.99 for 7 days. Both games have reasonable prices.

Some of the games have $1.99 rentals for 4 hours and $4.99 for 7 days. Papa y Yo is an example.

Again, what some people consider outrageous is subjective.

Just downloads the free app and have a look around.

Does it really upscale PSP games and/or make them full screen? i have a PSP Go with the docking station and i use component cables to my TV but it is not "full screen". But it does support a sixaxis controller to play it with.

The vita TV will be my replacement to the Go and not just for the PSP functionality but also playing Vita games on TV. Streaming is not my thing but respect to those who do that.

Eonjay1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

Yes, its true full screen on PS TV. Tested YS: The Oath of Felghana. Looks amazing BTW. Playing on a 32" in the bedroom. Gonna take it out to the living room on the 50' for testing. Supports Sixaxis and DS4. I recommend DS4.

Lucreto1884d ago

How is the image quality on Vita games? Do they appeared stretched to fix the screen. I have a 50" and it is a concern.

psvitamanfan1884d ago

They look fairly good to be honest, almost like for like with the vita. Definitely worth a look if you've not got a vita, even more so if they can get gravity rush to work on it.

lashes2ashes1884d ago

Why would they be stretched? Vita is 16:9 just like all hdtv.

Lucreto1884d ago

I thought of that after I posted. My line of thinking was PS1 games look stretched on PSP and Vita. So Vita games would look stretched on a TV.

TwilightSparkle1884d ago

Its fantastic! Especially with PlayStation now! I'm playing god of war ascension right now and I got to say I'm so loving it thanks sony

Eonjay1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

Same here. I am a bit suspicious of Sony... because it works too good. We are like one subscription away and a few dozen games away from making the PS3 obsolete. Seriously. I wasn't expecting the PSTV to work PSNow this good.

kingdom181883d ago

Also the option to purchase games to stream instead of just renting would make it great.

psvitamanfan1884d ago

Damn! I didnt get the chance to try out psnow, it wouldnt let me. Glad to hear it's working fine though. May just nip back into the spare room to try it out...

GamerGT1884d ago

This is brilliant when it comes to someone who had kids. I don't have to worry about them wanting to play the PS3/PS4 and trying to make sure they're not cramming and scratching a disc in backwards and potentially running an expensive piece of equipment. Just essentially turning it on and letting them run rampant with games like LEGO:"insert title here."
