Nothing is Grand Theft Auto. Activision & Bungie did manage to con next-gen hungry gamers into buying Destiny simply by stating that it was a very expensive game but it did not have the quality & content to backup the claim.

Justjoined1231885d ago

There was a huge beta which showcased basically everything the game is about, you cant possibly have been tricked into buying it unless you did no research at all.

Mornzie1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

it's funny really, when that beta included everything that was in the end game, just different skins.

@below.

The only thing that wasn't in the Beta, was Raids, everything else was the same with different skins, or bigger versions of something you fought earlier.

Mars and Venus, looked different, yet every single mission was the same as on Earth. weekly heroic strikes, nightfall strike daily heroic missions are all the same! just slightly harder.

JeffGUNZ1884d ago

@Mornzie

You lost me. I don't recall Raids, multiple strikes, the queens wrath, Mars, Venus, Weekly heroic strike, Nightfall stike, Daily heroic missions, Level cap past 8, and etc. all available during the beta? Are you talking just about weapon skins?

CorndogBurglar1884d ago

But if they did no research, then they also could not have been tricked because they wouldn't have known anything about the game.

In order to be tricked, you HAVE to have heard things, or, in this case, done some research.

I think this concept is going to tear a hole in the space time continuum.

Chrischi19881884d ago

Most bought it on pure hype. Nobody will say they did, but it is pure logic. You also cannot expect everyone who is getting a game, to play a beta before, most dont do this. Most are not core gamers.

The game is not only on "next-gen" consoles, so you're wrong there. The quality is most definitely there, and as far as the content is concerned, there is still 3.2 million people playing everyday, and the game is supposed to have a 10 year life span, so you're going to get content on a regular basis for quite a while.

And as justjoined123 stated, there was two public beta events, nobody got con'ed into anything as far as purchasing the game is concerned.

Lets just stop beating this mythical dead horse.

JeffGUNZ1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

How you get a disagree for that comment orakle44 and justjoined123, blows my mind. Their was an alhpa and an OPEN beta for this game. The beta was just like the finished product with less content. How anyone feels they were mislead or con'ed is laughable.

EDIT* I don't care if you disagree, that's fine, just explain WHY? The beta was not an actual representation of the final product?

orakle441884d ago

@JeffGUNZ

You know when you bring logic to the table on N4G, you'll automatically get the disagree's. It's ok they don't hurt my feelings :)

But yea, kinda doesn't make sense on how people could have gotten "duped" with buying Destiny.

morganfell1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

orakle44 & JeffGUNZ,

Thanks for the step up and man up. The beta alpha and the beta gave extremely reliable experiences that clearly demonstrated the feel and gameplay of the final product. Anyone that feels they were misled needs to pull up their big girl panties, go into the bathroom, look in the mirror, extended a pointed finger and start laying blame where it belongs.

Destiny isn't a bad game and all of this crybaby caterwauling is getting tiresome. It is like standing in the checkoput line listening to some screaming kid whose parent really needs to wallop them a few times and dust their spoiled behind. Anyone that didn't play the beta which could be had without buying the final game is a dunce for failing to research a future purchase. Those that did play the beta and arestill bawling need to swallow the hard truth that in a 2 week time frame they lack the intelligence to make an objective judgement about a game.

In short people are blaming Activision and Bungie because they are incapable of admitting their own shortcomings which are to blame for their now rampant dissatisfaction. Of course this is the new age of "Nothing is your fault". Well that isn't the real world so you had better grow up.

CorndogBurglar1884d ago

I've had this game since launch day, i've played it literally for 3-4 hours every day, I'm level 27, halfway to 28, have all legendary armor and an exotic helmet, and I STILL have things to do. Not to mention all the events that come out on a weekly basis.

Where is this lack of content I keep hearing about? I still have plenty to do and I've put in quite a bit of time already.

I think the majority of people don't realize that this game takes a lot of ideas from MMO's, and these people have either never played an MMO, or have no idea about the principals involved with them, like grinding.

people seem to complain about that the most, but grinding is a game mechanic involved in pretty much every MMO style game ever made.

Jonny5isalive1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

uhh destiny 2 in 2-3 years for sure with milky DLC showers between games.

by the time I get a ps4 this will be 30$ I hope.

Destiny is a great game if you have friends to play with.

iiorestesii1884d ago

9 hours of recycled maps. 6 pvp maps. I play every now and then but this is the last time I buy Activision.

Of course it isn't but that doesn't help anyone read past the headline.

Loadedklip1884d ago

Well Grand Theft Auto V had extremely strong reviews and positive word of mouth ... so yea .... Destiny won't be GTA V in terms of long term sales.

jr24241884d ago

Only part of the game I felt the marketing misled the public is this: "Epic Campaign - Destiny features a rich, cinematic story ..."

If it had a real story, I would have no complaints at all. But the campaign was paper thin and the mission structure was extremely repetitive, and I don't want to hear about expansion packs filling in the blanks. We shouldn't have to spend more money to get a fully-realized story.

The beta did not signal that there would be almost no story. Everything else lived up to or exceeded my expectations.

Gameplay is top-notch and I the additions they've made have kept me coming back. But the campaign is one of the biggest letdowns if you're looking for varied missions and story.

Baka-akaB1884d ago (Edited 1884d ago )

yeah i gotta agree that , even those of us who loved the game , expected more in the campaign and its presentation .

They even managed in the past to feature the speaker of the traveller quite a lot , as if he was someone important or some main villain/rival in some mass effect-esque experience
