i really liked this game but the monthly fee really killed it for me. i don't like the feeling of HAVING to play a game.

LightSamus3914d ago

Then don't pay for it? By what you're saying it's as if Square Enix are forcing you to pay for it.

Eidolon3914d ago (Edited 3914d ago )

The game is more casual than FFXI and playing a hour or two once in a while is just fine for some people.. but paying $14 a month for that isn't worth it. So yes, these people probably won't pay for it... that is the point.. we understand the model and that the game/updates would severely lose quality without it or move to a microtransaction based model

theFAYEsorceress3914d ago

i'm not paying for it. that's my point. i said i don't like paying for it because then i feel like i have to play it in order to get my money's worth. i can think of better games to play that don't require a monthly fee, and so i chose them over this game.

Baka-akaB3914d ago

It's fair , still for those unaware , with a free month included , you can still enjoy a month of something akin to a decent FF tale and story ... then stop before getting charged subs . And all of that at not even the cost of a regular retail game

Jubez1873914d ago

You know so little about economics lol. That's like saying since you paid for the buffet you have to eat the whole place.

theFAYEsorceress3914d ago

has nothing to do with my knowledge of economics lolz your comparison doesn't even have anything to do with what i was saying.

Magicite3914d ago

Best MMORPG after GW2. And probably best one thats out there. Sub fee ensures game gets proper content and often.

paradigmfellow3914d ago

I quit the game. I hated the grinding (and hunts).

ZerobyZero3914d ago

You don't really grind on this game you only do it for your relic weapon

Jubez1873914d ago

A completely optional feature? Do coil, god forbid.

paradigmfellow3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

RNG was not my friend. I was holding my party back for turn 9 because of my gear. I was the least geared member because of RNG and I refused to hunt. Also, SMNs has the worst ACC requirement out of all of the classes because of the egi and the gear available in 2.2-2.3.

Tundra3914d ago

The grind in ffxiv is probably the shortest grind I've known in an MMO to date. I'd say you just don't like MMOs.

paradigmfellow3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

I don't like MMOs. This was the first that I liked, until they added the zodiac quest line and hunts.

Baka-akaB3914d ago

The zodiac relic grinds , and the hunt system is indeed horrible guys .

Still props gotta be given , up to those , you virtually encounter no visible grind . And those will always be part of a mmo , disguised cleverly or not

I quit playing this game because it's not free to play. That's a shame because I enjoyed it, but not enough to pay $15 a month.

Master-H3914d ago

I wish there was a standard version of this game without the monthly fees that was lower on content or limited to the content on disc or something.

user95970823914d ago

What're the criteria for being able to call your product "game of the year"?

dumahim3914d ago

I was wondering the same thing. Who gave this a game of the year award?

Baka-akaB3914d ago

Site like Game informer , Joystiq etc .

I dunno why it's so surprising . It's pretty common to see the title named as the best mmo of this year or the previous one .

What else is even there ? The usual suspects like WoW , Wildstar , or the truly underperforming and dissapointing ESO .

dumahim3914d ago

They're not calling it "best MMO of the year edition" They're calling it "Game of the Year Edition" which is quite a different thing.

It’s really old now. All great MMOs decline.

PRIMORDUS2d ago

Also who wants to keep paying a monthly fee every month, there are other options like Guild Wars 2 😁with no monthly fee and while not that many people overall compared to FF XIV, it did increase to about 21 mil now.

Sephiroushin2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I prefer to pay since i do not like guild wars and it keep kids away, but FF14 decreased on quality since they started to make it "more accessible", tried throne and liberty and while it was okay it has so many issues, same for dune awakening... Its time to start making a new FF MMO

kaewcha7342d ago

Looks like Square Enix is self-aware but still stuck in place, they see the player drop and apologize for the bugs, but nothing really changes. Shame, FFXIV used to be the gold standard

Servbot412d ago

My entire free company has stopped playing. The writing has consistently gotten worse and the content is sparse and lacking; unless you are a hardcore player there's very little for you to do. They are over-catering to the people who will grind three+ times a week on a single fight for multiple months when the playerbase by large doesn't want that sort of content. Square needs to dedicate more resources to the game instead of wasting them on mobile and other live service slop.

Miraak82 2d ago

The biggest factor for me is the way they butchered job design over the years , the casualization and over simplification really hurt a good chunk of enjoyment I used to have . Jobs lost any form of complexity and just became " press glowing button" DDR style for fighting where the gameplay loop is a about the 2 minute burst window . They removed most DoTS, timer mechanics , cast times, pets, RNG ect and all around homogenized everything . When you try and can cater to everyone ... you cater to no one .

Do you not see this happening during development? Like, why are we apologizing after the fact instead of stopping it during development?

Stopac6d ago

Criticism and reflection occur after the fact. The apology acknowledges the past criticisms with the new expansion and they're keeping transparency with players about it. Now that they've acknowledged it - it will be interesting to see what kind of cycle we'll get with a new expansion and I wonder if they're planning something special with beast master since they didn't mention it in the last live letter.

anast6d ago

It's all good, as long as the price of the product decreases.

Stopac6d ago

The base game and expansion go on sale all the time and doesn't stay full price for very long since a new expansion is on the horizon.

If you're stating they should reduce the price of new expansions or the sub fee, no, that's not gonna happen lmao people aren't even complaining about that. They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy.

anast6d ago

"They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy."

The product should be cheaper then.

PapaBop6d ago

I was unhappy with DT and have spent far less time in it than any other expansion but it's things like this that makes me respect Yoshi P. It's rare for such a high profile developer to be so candid in his assessment on a live game.

Stopac6d ago

Same, i've found my self resubbing every two patches instead of keeping it up. Don't own a home in the game so there's no point in keeping a constant sub going. The post story is getting interesting though.
