Played MMO's on the PC from UO and EQ through several years of WoW with many in-between. Destiny is one purchase I regret, did not even hold me to level 20. Did not satisfy any of the MMO player in me at all.

aksmashh3915d ago

It's not a MMO

its just a online FPS

joab7773915d ago

It didn't hold u to level cap and u play mmo's? U should know that it doesn't even start until then.

Anyway, the addictive Ness and loot chasing keeps everyone playing but it the friendship and experiences that keep us coming back over and over. That part is a blast, even if I don't understand why I am doing something like Iron Banner...lol!

Canthar3915d ago

I know that but if it feels off to even get there I know it won't hold me once there. It's not the "boring grind" feeling. It is just off. Again, personal opinion.

ITPython3914d ago (Edited 3914d ago )

@Canthar - Didn't hold you to level 20? Sounds like you are doing it wrong if you gave up before trying the post 20 game, which is really where it starts to get interesting and where the MMO aspect of the game comes to life.

I for one get more and more addicted to the game each night I play. Last night I picked up the Ice Breaker sniper rifle from Xur and really look forward to grinding it out, plus I have TWO exotic bounties I need to work on, not to mention the Iron Banner event, daily missions, weekly missions, bounties etc.

There is absolutely no shortage of things for me to do in this game, and that is what keeps me coming back and looking forward to playing each and every day. I literally count the hours until I can jump back in, and I dread the time when I eventually have to stop playing.

Canthar3914d ago

How am I doing it wrong if it failed to draw ME in. I had several max level characters in EQ and was raid leader in one of the top guilds on the server I certainly understand time investment and end game. This feels more gear treadmill and not really a challenge at all. Ok maybe the one raid at this point would be a challenge but the rest of it feels more grindy than fun. I'd rather do dailies in wow.

ITPython3914d ago

Try soloing the level 28 weekly strike at level 26/27 and tell me there is no challenge. Most of the high level strikes are stupidly difficult and insanely aggravating. I am not even going to attempt doing the weekly nightfall strike, because if you die you actually have to start completely over again, which could mean literally HOURS of wasted time just because you made one small mistake or accidentally strafed the wrong way and got OHKed by one of the more powerful enemies attacks (and in nightfall, nearly every enemy is OP and hard to take out).

The thing is, you never got to try any of that, because you didn't give the game a chance and didn't bother to rank up to the point where the game actually starts. In reality, you really didn't even play the game. Not going past level 20 in Destiny and writing it off is like me putting a game into my PS4 and saying "I don't like the disk menu, therefore I don't like the game".

And it feels more grindy than fun? You don't sound much like a fan of MMO to me, as IMO the grind is a big part of the fun. Seems to me you just don't enjoy the unique genera of Destiny with it's FPS/MMO/RPG elements.

Gazondaily3915d ago

Loot. Gamers are suckers for loot. That's the key.

GameSpawn3915d ago

For me it is the leveling aspect and bounties. I really wish that bounties refreshed hourly or at least every 2-3 hours so I can keep doing them. They're like crack. I guess if they had bounties renew this often though there would need to be a much larger variety of them (I don't think there is much more than 20 of each type - PvE, PvP, and Special Event).

I'm not worried much about loot and I just live with whatever I get through natural progression. I guess I'm trying to say that I do not actively farm for loot items - glimmer and materials maybe but not orb drops.

swice3914d ago

And bragging rights. I love shoving my sweet gear in my friends face, whom has crappy gear. It's fun

matt1393915d ago

Addictiveness? LOL no the last thing i would call that borefest is addictive. After level 20 i stopped playing completely.

Baccra173914d ago

Same here. Turns out god awful grinding and Cryptarch trolling destroys addiction.

We should take elements from Destiny and add it to Crack and cigarettes- no one would be doing them then.

Blues Cowboy3915d ago

Slot machines are addictive. Of course they are. But it's not compelling in the same way as a memorable campaign with great set pieces and a fleshed-out universe with great characters.

Spinal3914d ago

Yeah that you play once and never play again.

I liked the last of us. But it will never give me the same amount of joy world of Warcraft or Diablo has given me through years and years of replayability.

Destiny is fantastic a lot of fun for me Pvp is really fun. I'm gonna be conflicted when Warlords drops! And then there's gta 5 online on ps4.

Crazay3915d ago

I wouldn't call it addictive in the least bit. I haven't even touched the game in about a week and I'm not jonesing to get into it. In fact, I have Alien Isolation, Borderlands the Pre-Sequel and the Evil Within to play this weekend so I won't even be thinking about Destiny at all.

He paid billions for Starfield. This should be the real story.

Sciurus_vulgaris299d ago

Microsoft bought all of Zenimax Media for 7 billion, while Sony paid 4 billion for Bungie. I think Microsoft got the better deal due to acquiring Fallout, ElderScrolls and Doom.

anast299d ago

This can't be true. They only bought Starfield...

InUrFoxHole299d ago

@anast
Should've thought that one out buddy, lol.

Yeah, I thought it out. I'm not sure you did. But since we are buddy's now, you're welcome.

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_299d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince1981299d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension140299d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy85299d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj299d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman299d ago (Edited 299d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake299d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn299d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg299d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot07299d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

298d ago
Knightofelemia298d ago

Microsoft may have more money but Sony has the talented studios and the games to back up those studios.

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom299d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac299d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake299d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark299d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde299d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand125299d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.
