I’m Still Playing Destiny, But I Don’t Know Why

Baden of WGB: "t’s usually around 1am that I serious begin wondering why I’m playing Destiny. The firefights are the strongest part of the game and have managed to remain fun, but other than that what the hell am I actually doing? I’ve replayed every Strike and Story mission to the point of being sick of seeing the same things again and again. The enemy placement is the same each time, and the loot is rarely interesting. So what am I doing? Weeks after launch, why am I still playing Destiny?"

If I had a dollar for each one of these articles...

Lightning Mr Bubbles3914d ago

People keep playing it because it's a good game, it's got good shooting gameplay but for some reason people just don't want to give it credit. If you already passed everything and got to level 29 or something, you probably enjoyed it and the game did it's job.

All these people complaining are level 25 and above, but if they didn't enjoy the game why did they play it that long?

Destiny isn't perfect but I think it's pretty fun and does a lot of things right, not sure why people are so down on it.

StanLee3914d ago

Because you keep hoping it gets better. That the grinding has its reward. That playing the game the way Bungie intended would add clarity to a morbid struggle. Unfortunately, eventually you finally have to admit, Bungie are trolls.

@Lightning Mr Bubbles - Agreed, according to the companion app I've put in just about 60 hours into the game, so IMO it has already paid itself off.

But even with 60 hours of gameplay @ level 27 for one character, I still have a LOT of things I need to get done and do. Every day I look forward to the time I play, not many games can do that for me a month in. And there is no signs of it slowing anytime soon.

Especially with Bungie doing all these special events, which IMO adds quite a lot to the "I can't wait to play again!" scenario. There must be some kind of psychology behind the "I don't want to miss out" syndrome, which keeps me coming back for more each and every day.

One of the things I love most about Destiny is that it gives you so many goals to accomplish. I'm currently eyeballing a legendary weapon from the crucible quartermaster, however my rep is still at level 0 and I need quite a lot of marks, so each day I play I put time into that side project of mine, alongside all the other long-term projects/goals I have. And when the day comes when I can finally get what I've been working towards, it feels like a pretty big accomplishment.

If I had a dollar for every time someone said "If I had a dollar"

Naga3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

You would have just earned yourself $2.

BootyBandit3914d ago

The same reason I keep playing it. It's freaking awesome. When I'm not playing Destiny I'm thinking about playing Destiny. I'm starting to gravitate more towards the multiplayer modes but still I am in the process of leveling up my 3 characters. My Titan and Hunter are level 27 (almost 28) and my Warlock is a 12.

I lost a ton of sleep since I purchased this game. I don't see myself being burned out anytime soon. It's the most fun and addicted I've been with a game since I can't remember when.

xHeavYx3914d ago

I agree, people seem to play this game with an "I need to hate it" mentality

mananimal3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

@xHeavyx

NO.....u are wrong.

What concerned gamers hate is being lied to, being sold a stripped down game etc etc

That's where the hate comes from, not getting what u paid for etc.

And then to have to watch and listen to you ignorant fools, spin less cowards not stand up and say ...."no, this is BS, this ain't what Bungie and Act of Treason Activision told us it was going to be, the AI sucks, just lazy...story stripped away, a bunch of greedy gremlins...and its sheeple like you that don't seem to mind enough. You've embraced what is enslaving you.

Pathetic. Smh

mananimal3913d ago (Edited 3913d ago )

@BootyBandit

Your an addict.

And that is the PROBLEM.

You see an addict will do anything.....say anything.....to get or justify the addiction.

You and those like you are Grade A "compromisers", slaves to your addiction.

So to you and those like you, it doesn't matter if Bungie and Activision lied and Hyped Destiny along with their blood brothers the Media", beyond what the final product ended up being.

You addicts and essentially compromiser's have low standards, just as long as you have fun nothing else matters......Whistler's in the Dark, defending your enemy's through ignorance.

It's people like you that allow the system to do what it always does, bully consumers into accepting what should not be accepted cause it's unacceptable.

Transporter473914d ago

I'm playing it because i bought it and, I really enjoy the game.

Perjoss3914d ago

I'm not the only one then!

brewskiebob3914d ago

Micro transactions are eminent....prepare your wallets

mananimal3912d ago

@brewskiebob

5 disagrees so far?

So then at least 5 people never heard of Micro transactions? or DLC?

or maybe.....they Hate the TRUTH.

smh.

He paid billions for Starfield. This should be the real story.

Sciurus_vulgaris296d ago

Microsoft bought all of Zenimax Media for 7 billion, while Sony paid 4 billion for Bungie. I think Microsoft got the better deal due to acquiring Fallout, ElderScrolls and Doom.

anast296d ago

This can't be true. They only bought Starfield...

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_296d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince1981296d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension140296d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy85296d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj296d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman296d ago (Edited 296d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake296d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn296d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg296d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot07296d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

296d ago
Knightofelemia296d ago

Microsoft may have more money but Sony has the talented studios and the games to back up those studios.

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom296d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac296d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake296d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark296d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde296d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand125296d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.
