This week's Japanese software sales include debuts for the new Fatal Frame, Danganronpa: Another Episode, and more.
no xbox games one ps4 game and handhelds are just killing it. Super smash bros for 3ds is selling amazing wonder how well thats going to sell over here.
my guess is it will sell pretty good in NA.
Editing post cos what i said was incorrect. Do expect this to sell amazing in the West though.
Yeh, that's one way of cutting it tim... Another would be that over half of the top 20 sold on PlayStation - considering Nintendo's recent releases, I'm quite surprised at that, but it's true nonetheless.
I think that's partially because of Sony's more frequent release schedule...A lot of those (7) are new titles that'll drop off after a week or so whereas Nintendo's have a bit more staying power (only 2 news titles and quite a few that have been on there for months.) It'll be interesting to see how Japan plays out in the long run. Sales-wise they've been all over the place recently.
Can't wait for Danganronpa.
I can't click on the link, how many units did Danganronpa Another Episode sell ?
3. [PSV] Danganronpa: Another Episode – 70,596 / NEW A pretty good number.
Considering all the other games, the poor sales of console games over there in general, and the fact that Platinum's Games generally sells better overseas, I'm surprised and delighted to see that Bayonetta 2 is still in the charts at all. And it's part of the top 15, too. That's certainly better than I expected!
"If it's still got poor numbers compared to the first game after comparing their first full weeks side-by-side, then I'll agree [it failed in Japan]." -you OT: Not a bad debut for Fatal Frame. This was around the same FF4 did in Japan its first week, but with a much larger install base on the Wii.
And I stand by my word. Its first week in Japan is a failure, and it's all up to the west to make the game a success now. Luckily, this is where Platinum sells best, and this doesn't change the fact that it's still on the charts when everyone thought it would drop out of the charts entirely.
@wonderfullmonkeyman Well mate, you got your "one week" Bayo 2 number right now and not "only two days" excuse just like you said to me from last week. So i hope you don't spam that comment again like you did last week.
I won't. The sales were poor. But the fact that it's still on the charts, despite that, is a good sign, so I still feel it's going to do well overseas. It hasn't flopped entirely quite yet, though Japan sales are a failure.
Err, i didnt think it would drop second week. I expected more like 10k or more as well.
Welcome to the minority. Most sites I've visited lately have had their fair share of people expecting the game to drop straight to the bottom of the charts, if not off of them entirely, due to the first two days. Btw, do we have a source for the digital sales yet? I don't think media create includes those...
Yeah, I was thinking around 10K too.
handheld console games ruling the roost...again. I have said it before and I will say it again. Consoles are now the niche in japan.
Oh man the numbers for Bayonetta 2 & Fatal Frame are embarrassingly disheartening. Also upsetting that Fated Paradox 2 sold so poorly. I guess all these games have a better chance on making it overseas to compensate the poor sales.
I Bet Fatal Frame would sell better in the West- Why the heck don t they localize it!!!
Actually this is pretty average for a FF game. The extra advertising sort of evened its performance despite the small install base. FF4: 28k first week FF2 wii edition: 20k
But but bayonetta 2 sold bad first week only because they counted 2 days. and now second week is disaster.
At least they've got a fair comparison to work with now compared to those first two days, so it's not unfair at all to say it didn't do well in Japan. They'll see better sales for it in the west though. Platinum Games has a history of selling better out here.
Wow, so both Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors have bombed in Japan? Let's hope both titles do a lot better in the West, for Nintendo's sake.
Am enjoying Hyrule Warriors in the Wild West ;)
Hyrule Warriors is the best-selling Dynasty Warrior game in Japan this year.
bayonetta 2 sold in first 2 weeks 45.797 on wii u first bayonetta sold first week 64,325 on x360 alone. there was 1 million x360's when bayonetta was release. there are 2 million wii u ATM
I'm worried about this title as it should've gotten more sales especially in Japan. It went from 3rd spot in the Media Create Sales chart to its current position at number 12. ;)
I told you, didn't I? ...but no, I was just trolling right? I told you Bayonetta 2 was not going hold those sales at all. Why is this so hard for people to see ahead of time by now, when this has happened to so many good Wii U games in Japan? Funny seeing so many of those people earlier show no face here. Some of you people are so delusional, where is all the damage control now for these poor sales? You can't use the "It hasn't been a full week" excuse anymore, so what will you say now to spin those terrible numbers?
There is no reasoning with nintendo fanatics... I got one guy telling me literally "PS Vita is shit!" while everything on the Wii U is great, fine and does well... etc.
the real story is the PS4 numbers. Last week comment recap the PS4 is killing it with the destiny white PS4 bundle in Japan. it will over take the Wii U in no time. if were going to bring up what games are not selling well bring up the fact that those PS4 numbers went up by 666% and dropped by 666% Xbox one looks like it never got off the block. Wii U looks like it's on a diet. It's fluctuating up and down.
Since the demographics of Japan are completely different to the situation during the launch of the ps2 and even ps3 sales are going as expected. 9% of the population is in the mature gamer catchment group. that is a total of 10 million people of which I doubt all are gamers. In comparison 10 years ago that catchment was almost 40% of the population. Judging game sales against 10 years ago is meaningless.
Go Danganronpa ;)
