Could it be great? Of course, but the only way it can be great is not being about Tetris at all. If you create a whole world and backstory for it to create a good movie, it's not about Tetris anymore. Catch-22 stuff, you know.
The concept of tetris alone is really a good fit for a movie. Even though the gamer is one of the oldest it is still very playable even today, infact i have it on my phone right now. Tetris is all about trying to make the pieces fit together and sometimes you get pieces that don't fit and then have to react quickly which is a lot like real life. So i'm definitely interested.
