Does Shadow of Mordor Run at 720p/30fps on Xbox One?

One thing that's been concerning is the fact that Warner Bros. and Monolith have been a mum on the Xbox One version. There's been no confirmed reports about its performance and whenever the game is demoed, it's been demoed on PS4. More still, no (or hardly any) Xbox One review copies were supplied to publications. It looks like there could be a reason why.

First PES 2015 and now Shadow of Mordor . the gap will widen .

1080/60 on PS4 and 720/30 on X1? I don't think the power difference is THAT big

sergons3172d ago

Is it. only fanboys don't see the difference

Gazondaily3172d ago

It's a big difference and one that's a cause for concern considering how the Xbox One is suffering already at such an early stage in its life cycle. I really do wonder how it will cope later on?

Aside from Battlefield 3, I don't see the PS4 struggling to reach 1080p at all. It certainly seems a lot more future proof that's for sure. The Xbox One, on the other hand, is struggling with the present.

Ultimately, it's all about the games and the 2014 lineup is proof of that but still, this is an issue you can't just sweep under the rug.

mikeslemonade3172d ago

What you visually see on screen 1080 to 720 isn't a big difference how 60 to 30 that's a considerable difference. If you at all have a critical eye will notice the difference easily when you pan the camera.

-Foxtrot3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

@sergons

So now if you point out how a console can't keep up with a rival console despite the weaker console originally being a higher price it just comes down to fanboyism.

Right...sure, whatever you say

Why are people trying to defend MS with this, article after article we get with stuff like this and people try and pin the blame on the dev for being lazy. It hasn't even been a full year yet and we have such a big gap, god knows what it's going to be like in a few years

DeadRabbits3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

I don't hear much talk of the Power of the Cloud lately, that was supposed to free up hardware and "stuff".

In all seriousness for a company to have wanted to ram DRM down consumer throats you would have thought they would have had some sort of Uber Console to back it up with!

Nothing has made me want to buy an xbone and I doubt at this stage there will! I am happy to have bought a PS4 and built my own PC!

Eonjay3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

For the sake of the internet. I pray that this is wrong.

Edit: Holy Sh*t... I think its true. Damn at least give the Xbox a chance to wash up first.

We are like one Call of Duty announcement away from a full internet meltdown.

Enemy3172d ago

Except that if it is, then there is something seriously wrong with the Xbox One. 720p/30fps is just laughable this gen.

MRMagoo1233172d ago

I have to say , I don't think this is real , I would believe it if it where 900p 30fps or something but this seems far fetched. Guess we will have to wait for official word.

Everyone but the fanniest of fanboys knows the ps4 is the more powerful hardware but that gap is bigger than the 40 percent power gap. My guess is if it's true it's because of the ram, this game apparently uses vram a lot.

NatureOfLogic_3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Ouch! If MS think 900p is unacceptable, I can only imagine what they think of 720p on Xbox One. This does not bode well for Xbox One going into the holidays.

Nekroo913172d ago

I enjoy how fanboys are disagreeing with guys like Spectic and Foxtrot in last few days, just because they dont like to read the truth.

Those are facts!! like or not. But you can still boolieve

Everyone knew that the xbox was weaker at launch, but this is just the beggining.

Hell i even remember when some guys said that software would make the xbox more powerfull than the ps4

Mithan3172d ago

Agreed, it isn't unless there programmers are useless. 900p I could believe.

I don't own a Xbox one, but I have a ps4 btw, before somebody calls me a fan boy.

FITgamer3172d ago

Damn if true that's 5 games in one week, not hitting 1080p.

Bathyj3172d ago

Septic touched on the real issue here. Some say the gap will narrow as Xbone tools get better. I think it will widen as games get more and more complex.

Xbone is not keeping up already and the gen just started. Look at Resistance compared to The Last of Us. Game fidelity does not stand still. Infamous already looks beautiful, but Uncharted 4 is going to make it look simple, and games in 5 years will only make it look worse.

If Xbone is struggling now, its going to continue to struggle as games get better looking. Meanwhile PS4 seems to have a higher ceiling and more room to stretch its legs. Thats only going to be a good thing as the gen wears on.

I think MS because of the power and sales differences will be looking to end this gen early and leapfrog to the next one, hoping to replicate the early lead they had last gen by doing the exact same thing.

LonDonE3172d ago

LMAO
Now we all know why Microsoft didn't call the X1 the Xbox 720!! LOL i think the xbox 720 would of been a more fitting name WTF!!!???

I i actually like using my X1, the o.s is pretty slick and is fun to use but man this is getting ridiculous! if we are seeing these kinds of difference now imagine in a few years when people have mastered the PS4 quirks! yes the X1 will (fingers and toes crossed) improve,
But at this rate the PS4 will obliterate it before we even get to year 3 or 4!

Azmatik3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Who ever thinks 720-1080 isnt a big gfx jump is a fool especially on 50 inch tvs. Boot up ur pc try runing a game in 720p then turn it to 1080p and ull notice it takes a considerable ammount of extra power to pump it out especially at 1080/60fps it takes alot out of a pc to gain an extra 30fps which is a huge jump so why must you deny that the xbox is far behind in power stop defending microsoft they messed up big time not hiting 1080p when its almost the year 2015 is a joke and a slap in the face you can argue its about the games but xbox has no games and the games they do have that are any good theyre also on ps4 and they run and look way better.

Bdub20003172d ago

Considering the PC requirements, it wouldn't be surprising for x1 to need to run at 720, or 30fps... Hopefully not both.

Codey473172d ago

"One thing that's been concerning is the fact that Warner Bros. and Monolith have been a mum on the Xbox One version. There's been no confirmed reports about its performance and whenever the game is demoed, it's been demoed on PS4."

When a developer did the same on PS3 versions of a game...it meant only one thing.

Performance were piss poor!

assdan3172d ago

Yeah. Double performance I can see, but this would be ridiculous

Army_of_Darkness3172d ago

When you can't see the difference between 720p to 1080p, it just simply means that you need vision glasses.

Unspoken3172d ago

Except it will be a consistent 30 fps on XB1 and massive drops on PS4. Anyone who has followed PC graphics understands the technical differences between the two GPUs and know they are both on the lowest end of midrange.

But whatever helps fanboys feel assurance.

Mithan3172d ago

No it isn't that big. 900p for sure, not 720p.

And no, I don't own a Xbox One, I own a PS4. Just saying this for the dumb out there.

XBLSkull3172d ago

So let me get this straight, the article has zero evidence of this being true? Oh okay, great article submission ValKilmer.

quenomamen3172d ago

If an X1 is all you got then you really cant complain. All you can say is " 720p goid enough for me ! Its like watching blurays on a 19 inch CRT tube from 1988 going hey its looks ok !

LordDhampire3172d ago

I don't see why it has a gape this big I can see 720/30 and 1080/30 but different resolutions is normal the power difference does exist, the only reason games such as COD and destiny don't have them is because microsoft is getting with these companies and optimizing it themselves, which they can only do for major releases.

Ocsta3172d ago

Whats going to happen when the new engines and tech hit in a few years? If the PS4 starts sweating will the 'Bone implode?

ramiuk13172d ago

surely it cant be that big 1080p/60 unlocked with drops to 40fps.
xb1 720p /30fps.

no way,im a ps4 gamer and surely the gap cant be that big

conanlifts3172d ago

It has constantly been pointed out that the difference in power between the 2 consoles is 40-50% in the PS4's favour. Furthermore it is constantly mentioned that the power difference needed between 900p and 1080p is 44%.
So if this is true then it is pure laziness from the developers. For me resolution from 900p-1080p doesnt matter. But 720p to 1080p does matter as its is visible on 40"+ TV's (certainly on my 55" anyway). I would like to know the truth as I mostly buy my games on my X-1 ( I prefer the controller ). But if I do buy this and it is 720p vs 1080p then I would have to buy the PS4 version.

strike1013172d ago

the 1080 vs 720 is a minor issue...

the 30fps vs 60fps.. is something else... probably the reason why you shouldn't get the XBO version of the game

frenchtoast3172d ago

In terms of pixels, 1920x1080 = 2073600, 1280x720 = 921600. So more than 50% more pixels on 1080. Then if you look at framerate, it is even worse (but I don't think it is 60fps locked).

vishmarx3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

@sd11

"Owning both consoles I have to disagree. There are so many things that I can do on the X-1 that I simply can not on the PS4. Of course, most of these things have nothing to do with gaming. For example I live in a country without access to netflix. The X-1 is completely region free, so I simply change my country of origin to the US or UK and I can access all of the apps in that region. This lets me use Hulu and Netflix ( and any other apps I do not have access to ), which I can't do on the PS4. I can also play blu rays and Dvds from any country by doing this. Plus I can buy games in other regions when they have not yet been released in mine from the US or European stores this way.

The best way to game is to get them both as they both have great things about them."

<slow claps>
that is possibly one the the stupidest things ive read in #resolutiongate
all of those can be done on ps4.

Unspoken3171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

Well, aside from the faster GPU the PS4 is lacking in every other department.

-Inferior controller tech; faster response with WiFi direct on XB1 and direct connection. Much longer battery life on XB1, replaceable, and I'm notified every time my battery life is low. On PS4 it disconnects right in the middle of combat.

-Inferior WiFi network connection. No option to join 5.0Ghz N networks on PS4 causing lag and latency. Really? This is 2014 and you are forcing me to use the bloated and old tech at 2.4Ghz?

-PSN service sucks even with direct connection. Errors all over the place; friend invites, party invites, purchases, NAT problems, and the most terrible buffering system ever, as videos will stop playing and resume with audio not in sync. Just check the forums for all these errors to see the complaints with minimal fixes except for rebooting and trying another day. Never had these issues with the 360 or Xbox One. The free monthly PSN games are not worth it and I can buy games off Steam for the price of PS Now rentals. No thanks.

-High temps; gets hot and loud and you must give it adequate cooling with people going so far as to add laptop coolers to it. Those are the compromises made in order to keep it small with no power brick. I would have accepted a power brick if that meant quieter and more efficient cooling. Swear it is going to take off through the air one of these days.

-Better sound on the XB1. I believe this comes down to the Xbox One's sound block but everything, even Xbox music, has a much higher fidelity sound quality to it than what comes out of the PS4.

-Streamlined and intuitive interface on the XB1. While the PS4 has a decent interface, navigating it feels like a chore. On XB1, my last five recent apps are exactly where I expect them, favorites pinned on the side. PS4 apps move around on the bar and I have click through and go searching while in the PlayStation store or PS settings to find what I want. Also a ton of ads and crap I don't care to see when in the store, but both systems share this.

-Gimmick or not, controlling my entire entertainment setup with just my voice is a next gen experience if there ever was one. Add to that I can simply say Xbox record that and keep playing instead of fooling around with the share button and accidentally take a screen shot instead. It's just easier on the XB1 while keeping you immersed in your game. Plus it's so gratifying yelling out "Xbox record that!" when you make an amazing play.

I guess when you have a 4k gaming rig, the bickering between 1080p/900p is so insignificant that it brings to light all the glaring faults of the touted PS4.

mmj3171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

"1080/60 on PS4 and 720/30 on X1? I don't think the power difference is THAT big"

Agreed but Xbone is undoubtedly more difficult to develop for due to the ESRAM etc, many developers will not bother to put that extra effort in as Sony found out with PS3.

Haru3171d ago

First they said there is no difference between 900p and 1080p and that you can't notice any difference with naked eye and now they claim there is no difference between 720p and 1080p.. what's next? I bet if this game was 480p on XO and 1080p on PS4 Fanboys would still claim that there is no diference and they both look the same Lmao!

fr0sty3171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

That is 4 more than times as many pixels per second being processed on PS4. double the frames and more than double the pixel resolution per frame.

HiddenMission3171d ago

@Unspoken

Actually reviewers have already stated that the PS4 version run butter smooth. Only one reviewer said that it dipped below 60fps once during a interrogation scene.

So based off of that sounds like the PS4 version will beast the XB1 version...I guess we'll see tomorrow no won't we.

XB1_PS43171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

Rumor isn't true. The source is CN Play Channel. He posted a comment saying it was 720p @ 30fps. He later said he doesn't actually know.

He did say he noticed a difference.

Magicite3171d ago

Its not about hardware gap, its about ease of developing. Besides why bother polishing X1 version, if its gonna sell at least by 30-50% worse than PS4.

Like it or not, Microsoft have to lower the price of the X1, and the sooner the better. Simply put, the X1 is not worth the same price as the PS4... and Microsoft only have themselves to blame. They cut corners with the X1's graphics card, now the are paying the price.

My suggestion: X1 at $299/299€.

dansdooz3172d ago

Ps4 dodgy thumbsticks $0

Benjammin253172d ago

@dansdooz 1.What the hell has that got to do with anything?
2. Just buy some grips. They're cheap.
3. This story concerns console hardware and let's face it, The Xbox One is simply not up to snuff.

Raider693172d ago

Alreay got mine second hand with only 1 month use and two games played on it by the previous owner ,with Kinect and two digital games Forza 5 and COD,PLUS WARRANTY for 250€!Only got it because it has cheap and i still want to play the exclusives,at this price with all the extras was a great deal. But for those that want to buy one Xboxone i say wait for the price to drop or try second hand sellers deals because the console its price very high in shops!!

conanlifts3172d ago

Watching a couple of Xbox One Twitch streams it definitely doesn't look 720p. It looks great to be honest. I would venture to say the frame rate is locked at 30fps although you couldn't tell anyway as Twitch streams are locked at 30fps for non sponsored streams.

Bigpappy3172d ago

May be it would be a good idea to find out the resolution, then write the article. This is a what if article on a perceived problem.

Volkama3171d ago

But man, this is one hot rumour. N4G loves it!

I came for the jelly and icecream. Kids parties always have jelly and icecream.

mcarsehat3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

This article has been rumour voted to "hopefully"

THAT is the problem with gaming this generation.

To get "hopefully" you need the majority of the vote in order for the slider to go a certain way, the PS4 has the majority IE this website is a one sided fanboy website.

G20WLY3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Don't be ridiculous. You've been here long enough to know that people vote according to whether they believe the rumour is true or not.

There is no 'hope so'/'hope not' option, it's just unfortunate wording on the mechanism, nothing for you to get your knickers in a twist over.

FWIW, I cant believe it's true - far more likely to be either 720p OR 30fps than both.

dreamed3171d ago

Agreed wtf is up with people,do they want sony to monopolize??...ps4 would cost a lot more without competition without a doubt, monopolized products always do.

Never understood [email protected] pls tell me whats so good about being limited to one console??...that goes to all fanboys not just sony ones!!!

ramiuk13172d ago

seems that way dude.

on another note i thought this site was bad for delusional fanboys but have you seen some of the xbox owners comments on that site??

wow, some of them should be locked up

CJDUNCAN3172d ago

let's wait until it's confirmed. a different resolution is one thing, a different framerate, now that's a bigger issue to me.

bennissimo3172d ago

Who the f cares? Every real gamer owns multiple consoles and enjoys the color of the grass on both sides of the fence. PS4 might be more powerful, but its lineup of exclusive holiday releases sucks. Next year might change, but this winter will see my X1 being played much more than my PS4.

This article is a great example of the quality journalism you find here on n4g.

hades073171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

I used to love this website, and I still do for congregating news, but the Sony fanboys just have way too much say here now. They all want to poke fun and pick out faults with anything that is not their precious playstation. I love sony, I have two ps3's at home for games/media servers but the people here are just plain ridiculous the way they get on.

At the top of the article the rating that the rumour maybe true is hopefully. Why? Why would you hope that a game that is getting amazing reviews be inferior on one system then the other?

This resolutiongate nonsense affects the game makers most, not microsoft. The xbox division doesn't make much money for them. If people keep talking about how bad a game is on the xbox and thats the only system someone has; theyre probably not picking up a PS4 to play it, no they will more than likely pass on the game completely.

I've watched a couple of Xbox One streams. It does NOT look 720p. It does however look to be capped at 30fps. All in all, it looks GREAT. I had low expectations before watching. I preordered digitally soon after. Honestly, if you have an Xbox One, dont worry what the other forum posters are saying. I was able to watch before they pulled the streams down fortunately :-)

GamersHeaven3172d ago

Inferior hardware no surprise here.

OldDude3172d ago

And compared to a mid range PC the PS4 is a joke, so your point is?

If you're going to be a graphics whore I wouldn't be bragging about a console.

Haru3171d ago

Still better than xbox which equals to a low end laptop ;)

gootimes3171d ago

"If you're going to be a graphics whore I wouldn't be bragging about a console."

When involved in a console debate it is perfectly acceptable to compare hardware of different "consoles".

Seeing as how a PC is not a console, and targeted at different consumers, maybe you can see why a PC wouldn't be brought up in the debate?
