Xbox One's Kinect has no functionality in The Crew, PS4's touchpad & speaker do

Examiner: "Peripherals are a large part of both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 experience. Whether it be Microsoft's Kinect or Sony's Touchpad on the controller, both are frequently used by all sorts of titles on their respective platforms. Examiner spoke with Julian Gerighty, Creative Director on The Crew, and inquired as to whether or not Ubisoft's title would be utilizing any of them."

The PS4 touchpad will be used to pull up the map and used to scroll around it, and i'm assuming by getting sounds coming from the speaker in the controller,
i guess voices and maybe turbo/supercharger sounds coming out of it?
i don't know, but i know one thing, hearing how each car handles different is what i was waiting on. Can't wait to try out the console beta in a few days. :-)

jagermaster6193915d ago

Ya playstation has no forza horizon 2 oh gotta sting right!!! Sorry about your bad luck💔

bsquwhere3915d ago

Thank God we don't have Forza, I like my racing games to be good.

Mystogan3914d ago

Because a touch pad and a motion camera are the exact same thing.

Unfortunately the 10% extra did nothing for Sunset Overdrive either.
I knew once MS diskinected(intentional) it from the package they would be sending it to an early grave....Myself and others also knew that the extra 10% would not be the holy grail (1080p@60fps) for the console.... as the deluded were led to believe .

"What happened for developers not using the Kinect is that there was a slight boost in CPU power that we got to take advantage of. This game really does push the limits when it comes to the number of enemies on screen, so it was useful for us to have more CPU juice to help with physics, navigation and AI. We’re running at 900p and 30 fps native. This is a game with a lot on the screen and we made the choice to be at 900 because we wanted to push the level of detail, action, the size of the city and the views you can experience as move around. What’s great about Sunset Overdrive is if you can see it, you can go there."

@Software_Lover

The Crew ain't doin' it for me but ProjectCARS is.

Software_Lover3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

..........ok. Glad you like the crew.

Edit: @codey

Ok, yeah project cars looks good, but I'm still suspect on the actual driving. Will have to give it a go.

cell9893915d ago

what? I thought Sunset Overdrive would be 1080P since they had enough time to adjust to the new hardware plus all the sdk updates MS has thrown at devs. Bubbles for you, helpful

WeAreLegion3915d ago

That extra 10% actually did help Sunset Overdrive. Ask an Insomniac employee.

ger23963915d ago

How did the extra 10% help? Serious question.

GameDev13915d ago

Really? So Sunset Overdrive was also lower than 900p 30fps before?

DragonbornZ3915d ago

Dat ignorance doe. Don't try when you don't know what you're talking about.
According to Insomniac they used that extra 10% for A.I, physics and effects instead of pixel count.

XanderZane3915d ago

Actually Insomniac used the extra 10% to add more details to the game, add better A.I. and make the game run even smoother. The game should stay at 30fps thoughout most of the action. They had already said they wouldn't use the extra power to change the resolution, as they felt 900P was the perfect resolution for the game.

Kinect hasn't been disconnected from the package. They are still selling XB1 packaged with Kinect. They just released a new SKU with the XB1 only or with a game. This was on the reguest by gamers. Also, no one said the extra 10% would make games 1080P / 60fps. Most PS4 games can't run open world games at 1080P / 60fps smoothly. Why do you think Infamous SS is running at 30fps? Sunset Overdrive is like DR3. It has 100's of enemies running around on the screen with explosion and gun fire happening continuously. The PS4 wouldn't run this game at 1080P / 60fps either. The frame rate would drop down to the 30's or less. The XB1 won't get a significant boost of the CPU until next year with DX12 is fully launched. They the full Cloud Tech will come after that. The issue of 900P game will be a thing of the past.

Kingdomcome2473915d ago

It doesn't have to come in the form of a resolution bump like it did with Bungie, and Destiny. I thought Ted Price stated that they used the 10% reserve to increase the on screen enemy count, particle effects ,etc... the devs have the ability to utilize the reserve in a way that best fits their artistic vision, and I guess Insomniac chose other things over resolution. That said they might not have been able to reach 1080p either way, who knows.

Oh here we go again. The title of this article is going to cause a war between the diehard Ps4 and Xbox One fans. I'm getting really sick of this. Not the articles. But comments that start to come after.

The Xbox One is alrady being thrashed over the 1080P resolution and 60 FPS problems the system is having. I'm trying to figure out when 900P and 30 FPS beacame a bad thing?

The Ps4 50% more powerful. That is great and all. But multi-platform games (like The Crew) will be the same game and pretty much have the same gameplay on both consoles. Why is 1080P and 60FPS such a big deal. Is this all the supposed "next-gen" is about. Going by the countless fights over these subjects. It's starting to seem that way.

Why can't we just play games and leave it at that. It was never this bad during the 6th gen of gaming. When the heck did tue western market become so obsessed with graphics?

oof463915d ago

Makes sense. Every Xbox One does not have a Kinect anymore, but every PS4 comes with a controller that has the touchpad and speaker.

XanderZane3915d ago

It could easily have been made optional. Just go into the option menu and turn it on or off. Not that hard. I'm sure they will just use the controller to do the same thing with the map. Don't really need the Kinect or touchpad.

Codewow3915d ago

What would you want to use the kinect for in a racing game anyways?

SteamPowered3915d ago

Very good point. Unless there is head-tracking of some type, it seems pointless. Maybe you can mime out the actions of turn signals or rolling the window down...

oof463915d ago

@SteamPowered: or yell at someone if they cut you off.

Codewow3914d ago

@oof46, you mother f*****. I'll kill ya for cutting me off! F*** you! *You have been disqualified from the race for obscene language, you will also be fined $10,000.*

Ubisoft holds firm in The Crew lawsuit: You don’t own your video games

Plaintiffs bring up a new claim, too, in amended complaint.

Christopher65d ago

***Replying to Ubisoft’s argument that the statute of limitations is up, the plaintiffs responded with their own photos of The Crew’s packaging, which states that the activation code for the game doesn’t expire until 2099; that’s an example of how Ubisoft “implied that [The Crew] would remain playable during this time and long thereafter,” per the amended complaint.***

I really hope this resonates with the judge on the two-sided talk Ubisoft has going on here. You can't have your cake and eat it as well, IMHO.

ABizzel164d ago

A few of more mishaps and Ubisoft won’t be around anymore anyway.

Assassin’s Creed and FarCry are keeping them alive right now, and it’s a shame. Tom Clancy games are at a minimum now, The Division had its run, Watch Dogs has come and gone, For Honor was something new-ish, their lacking in New IP, and their older franchises just aren’t getting the right love.

OWCY8764d ago

rainbow six siege is doing alright

neutralgamer199265d ago

I hope the judge favors the consumers because it really sucks what thees companies are doing. I am sure these companies will simply change their user agreements to add these new "we don't own the games clauses"

victorMaje65d ago

Ubisoft keeps trying so hard to not want my money. I will oblige.

isarai65d ago

Good thing i haven't bought a Ubisoft game since ac origins, and even that was a mistake 😆

Levii_9264d ago

I haven’t bought a Ubisoft game since 2014 and i don’t plan to change that.

Jingsing64d ago

I haven't bought a Ubisoft game since Watch Dogs 3.

vTuro2465d ago

Funny, now Ubisoft doesn't own them anymore either.

Now? You are almost a week late.

shadowhaxor428d ago (Edited 428d ago )

Wait. I don't get it. I reported on something that I recently noticed. I did mention in my article that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't gone to play The Division 2. That said, if this was nearly a week ago, I wouldn't know, as NO ONE REPORTED ON IT! Not IGN. Not Gamespot. Not Kotaku. No one.

You got people here complaining that there are any real gaming journalists and game journalism sucks, but when someone is acting, doing something to make something known to the public about what a company is doing. What do you do? You poke fun at it. What is it that people want? Do you want to complain for the sake of it? Or do you actually want people to do something to make those who aren't in the know aware of the shady stuff that's happening and to sound the alarm?

ravens52428d ago

It's the "oh well" setting in on digital users. They don't care they don't own their stuff for some odd reason. 🤷🏽.

FullmetalRoyale428d ago

Good for you! People sometimes just feel the need to show how little they actually have to say. Very respectful dressing down, btw, which is another thing we need more of.

fan_of_gaming428d ago

I appreciate your article,
- "If this isn’t considered both a “WTF” moment and setting a dangerous precedent, I don’t know what else it would be"
- "it could also signal other publishers that removing games from our accounts would be okay"
- "Maybe those firmly against this digital future have a point after all"
- "This. Is. Fucked. Up."

As someone against an only-digital/streaming future for entertainment content (movies/TV shows/games/books), it feels like talking into a void about the points above on this website, or on Twitter, or with my friends, etc. People don't get it. I'm strongly contemplating whether this will be my last generation of PlayStation & Xbox consoles (I'm confident enough that Nintendo's next system will still support physical media and that their 1st-party games won't have online-required installation or usage restrictions).

I see they're trying their best to surpass Activision Blizzard for being the most hated gaming company. Keep at it, Ubisoft, I believe!
