Forza Horizon 2 Review - EGM

EGM: The ideas of open-world exploration and story aren’t usually synonymous with racing titles. A spin-off game from Microsoft’s popular Forza franchise, Forza Horizon, bucked the trend, though, and delivered a fun, fresh take on the genre back in 2012. It was welcomed back then as a breath of fresh air, so it’s no surprise that high hopes surrounded the follow-up, Forza Horizon 2.

Not sure I agree with docking points for a lack of 'story mode' in a racer. The score doesn't seem to reflect the reviewers own sentiments but then again, it depends on how much weight you're putting on the omission of the story mode I guess. Still, a decent read nonetheless.

I've literally never played a racing game for it's Story.

I don't know anyone who has, nor have I heard of anybody who has.

Does this Reviewer play racing games ?

* Mario Kart 8 has NO STORY.....but it's awesome. Nobody seems to mind there.

* Putting EGM on the list of Sites I can't trust anymore.

The sites are adding up fast.

Lukas..that is like expecting a good story in a fighting game or in Mario Kart. Who the heck cares..some genre like racing is 100% all about gameplay and you know cars.....cars..and more cars. When was the last time you heard a review on a racer based on any story..unless you count GTA as a racing game.

I think you guys are missing the point Lukas isn't arguing that he agrees with the review, no he is simply saying that metacritic should not censor or only allow positive reviews or opinions and he is correct, I mean what good is a site that lists and *averages reviews scores if they all must be positive. I do however agree that only established quality gaming sites which includes EGM should be allowed because of course the typical fanboy sites/blogs would compromise the creditability of the whole system, even now its not perfect but such is life.

That said I don't agree with the author's emphasis on the lack of story...its a damm racing game. G20WLY GRID had a decent narrative which was far from a legit well told story but again who cares it was a racing game.

This is a fairly low score. All other reviews i have read have been very good. If this guy wants a story, he should watch fast and furious. This is a racing game for goodness sake.

Forza 2 plot and story for the author

As the Racer X grip the steering wheel with his left hand and his right he clutches the silver skull shifter, he revs the engine to intimidate his competitor who is obviously a nervous wreck.
As both racers stare down the tarmac. In the corner of their eyes they can see the light turns from red to yellow and then finally Green.
Both Racers shift into 1st gear and slam on the gas pedal. Their car screams down the tarmac leaving a dust of black smoke behind as the spectator cheer them on.
Both guys race until the end of the street and Racer x wins.

The 35 year old Racer X did this again the next day. THis is what he do. At the end of the night, he drives back to his parents home where he have been living since he was born. He then continued to his parents room and woke them up from their slumber and ask, "Mom, dad?... I need money for new tires and a new decal for my window".

The End.

You are mistaking if you think Xbox fans don't troll PS4 games. They even trolled TLoU and it got in the mid 90's rating.

Drive Club may or may not get into the mid 80's as a game, but even if it did that wouldn't make it a masterpiece. I would say a game getting in the mid to high 90's can be called that.

@gootimes I couldn't care less what it gets rated at or what any game on the Xbox One gets rated at. Forza Horizon wipes the floor with driveclub in terms of everything gameplay, mechanics, features, cars, music, physics. Do yourself a favor and go and read the non bias positive reviews of Horizon 2, instead of waiting around for negative reviews to come along to make you feel better about yourself like some pathetic twatbag.

Keep holding onto that precious PS4 you have, aka the indie station. With it's "superior" graphics chip that couldn't even run Battlefield 4 at 1080p LMAO.
