So how does this match up to the GT280?

bumnut5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

it doesn't but it is a 1/3rd of the price.,

you could run 2 of these in crossfire and still have enough change for a quad core processor.

That my friend is the million dollar question.... you know some site is going to do a comparison, I can't wait.

The taking less power though is indeed a big huge plus....

All I really want to know is can it run Crysis with everything on high.

and at how many fps..?

bumnut5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

$199 = £130 approx.

130 x 2 = £260

amd quad core = £130

130 + 260 = £390, which leaves £30 left over from the cost of 1 gtx280 (£420 in uk)

Even if the 4870 is 70%ish of the GT280's power, then ATI will also have the most powerful graphic card out - The HD 4870X2. Cant see Nvidia making a dual card this gen. The heat and noise - not to mention price, would all be way too high. And the 4870 is supected higher than that, up to 40% as powerful as the 9800GTX.

Either way Nvidia have stuffed up and can expect to make losses or at the very least have ATI taking a clear lead.

do they not understand that this is their entry model.

Compare the hd4870X2 to the g280gtx

THE_BATTLERAGER5788d ago

Meant that the 4870 is supposed to 40% MORE powerful than the 9800GTX, the way I worded it sounded funny.

Damn the wait for the X2 is nerve wracking, by the looks of things, it's going to be an instant buy for me.

Nvidia are taking the piss charging £420 for a graphics cards, thank god ATI are back in the game ,their new generation of 4000 cards kick major ass for half the money Nvidia are charging.Paying £400+ is a joke its about time nvidia were shaken up a bit
